Bayern aim to continue recovery

Premiership Talk Blog 30 October @ 07:00 AM EST

Media criticism, internal criticism, huge injury concerns, a long winless streak, and the list goes on. All the aforementioned obstacles severely marred the opening of the current season for German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. In September, such was the state of affairs at Allianz Arena that new manager Louis van Gaal appeared to be on his way out of the Bavarian club sooner rather than later.

Some People are On The Pitch 29 October @ 12:14 PM EST

Kenny Cooper, Cup Killer

No Short Corners 24 September @ 01:59 PM EST
Sorry this took me so long, I've been battling my computer in the Thunderdome. I don't know why it even tries to blow up anymore... after a mere few hours of wanting to injure myself in the most horrid way I can think of, I always win. Yeaw.In any sad event, here is the suspiciously proficient from-the-crowd look at Kenny Cooper's strike for 1860 Munich in their German Cup upset of Hertha Berlin. Click to continue reading...

Fixing The US Open Cup And Looking Into The Future

Major League Soccer Talk 27 May @ 04:31 PM EST

I have been a big supporter of this lovely tournament ever since I saw the old Thomas R. Dewer Cup being surrounded by DC United in a MLS Merchandize catalog back in 1997. Just getting into the sport you always knew about the league and the Cup playoffs, but never about the US Open Cup till someone informed me what it's about.

Martin Jol the perfect man for Sunderland

Football Corner 24 May @ 03:46 PM EST
The dust has barely settled on Ricky Sbragia's resignation and there's already talk of who will replace him in the hot seat at Sunderland.
Wigan boss Steve Bruce is the bookies early favourite at a price of 5/2, while Celtic's Gordon Strachan is also a name being mentioned, however, for me, there is only one man to replace Sbragia and that is Hamburg's Martin Jol. Click to continue reading...

Bundesbag Week 34: Wolfsburg winners, Dortmund dumped, 'Gladbach for more

Some People are On The Pitch 24 May @ 06:36 AM EST
In the end it was pretty straightforward. Nevertheless, Wolfsburg have actually done it. They are the German Champions for the first time ever.
Congratulations go to the players, particularly their impressive attackers Dzeko, Grafite and Misimovic. Kudos should also be extended to their coach Felix Magath who has taken a club that was, for years, the very definition of mid table mediocrity and transformed them into, not only the best team in Germany but one of the most exciting teams in Europe. Bundesbag Weeks 31 & 32: Ich würde es lieben

Some People are On The Pitch 14 May @ 09:30 AM EST
With two rounds of matches this week I thought it was best to wait until today before posting this week's Bundesbag. I'm glad I did because there have been even more twists and turns at both the top and bottom of the Bundesliga table.
Last week, we speculated as to whether the news of Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath's move to Schalke at the end of the season would have a negative affect on the team, particularly since their next fixture was against the side in uber-form, Stuttgart. Click to continue reading...

Guide to Bundesliga stadiums

Bundesliga Talk 11 May @ 02:14 AM EST

As the last World Cup hosts, Germany unsurprisingly have an array of impressive stadiums. There are no fewer than 11 football stadiums with a capacity of at least 50,000, 10 of which are called home by Bundesliga clubs.

This is compared to only four English football grounds, including Wembley, to have a capacity above 50,000.
