In the midst of the controversy surrounding Jose "Pepe" Moreno, the New England Revolution have
signed another striker, Saër Sène. The Paris, France, native trialed with the Revs the week of
January 23rd in the team's Arizona preseason camp.
"We had the chance to have Saër in camp with us in Arizona and see him interact with our
players both on and off the field," General Manager Michael Burns said in a statement released by
the club.
The Royal Blues have moved into the winter break as the number 3 in the Bundesliga. Schalke aims
to win the title and Klaas Jan Huntelaar is instrumental in this quest. But the German club of the
people fears an exit of their main goal scorer.

Paul Riley thinks very highly of Sarah Hagen (Appleton North/UW-Milwaukee).
So much so that even though Hagen signed with Bayern Munich through June and joined up with the
German club this week, Riley still wanted to make sure his team had the rights to the high-scoring
forward if she chooses to play in Women's Professional Soccer.
If the January U.S. Men's National Team camp was all about wins, adding Jermaine Jones might
have been the correct decision. That has never been the case.
The January camps, instead, have always been about giving deserving, often overlooked, players
in their offseason a chance to impress while their more established European colleagues are in the
midst of their season.
The Galaxy will begin the defense of their MLS title without the best defender in the league after
Omar Gonzalez tore his ACL in his first training session on loan with a German club after leaving
the USMNT camp. Here's a Google translation of the club announcement (1.FCN): Serious injury
STARTERSLA Galaxy centerback Omar Gonzalez has passed up a chance to impress USA coach Jurgen Klinsman so
he can go on loan for 6 weeks to German club Nurnberg.
-Does this make any sense at all to anyone? Besides that the Bundesliga does not even resume play
until Jan 20!
It isn't every day that a bright young player like Junior Flores comes around. Major League
Soccer knows it and is trying desperately to add him to their 2012 Generation adidas class.
Reports from the Washington Post say that the league has already offered Flores a lucrative GA
contract, one likely to be on the high end of those deals signed in this class.

A fun bit of news broke late yesterday evening. Two US National team defenders George John and
Omar Gonzalez were said to be leaving the national team camp for "club-related matters". Naturally
their two teams instantly sent out messages about those matters.

We now know Omar Gonzalez's destination.
Gonzalez has been loaned from the Los Angeles Galaxy to FC Nurnberg until at least mid-February,
the German club announced on its website on Thursday. Nurnberg official Martin Bader said the club
had hoped to make a move for Gonzalez in the summer, but that the opportunity to acquire the
centerback came up.
It might be the first time in soccer history that frozen custard helped secure a signing.
Earlier this month as Sarah Hagen (Appleton North/UW-Milwaukee) weighed a contract offer
from German club FC Bayern Munich against staying in the U.S. to play in Women's Professional
Soccer, the prolific forward made her way to her local Kopp's Frozen Custard for a snack.
Stephen Ireland wouldn't dare forget to bring his snakeskin pants to Ronaldinho's next pyjama
party...would he?
If you think this is good, just wait.
It gets better.

Athlete of the year award.
I am a big fan of Huntelaar and i still cannot understand why Milan let him go! Despite rescuing
Milan on a number of occasions in the 2009/2010 season, Huntelaar was regularly used a substitute
for the Rossoneri something that eventually led to his move to the Bundesliga.
The Dutch international has gone onto establish himself as a goal scoring machine for Schalke
this season scoring 15 goals in 16 appearances for the German club.
Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath has launched an extraordinarily unprofessional public attack on
former Liverpool defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos. In an interview with German newspaper Wolfsburger
Allgemeine Zeitung, Magath - who won the European Cup with Hamburg in 1983 - revealed that he was
unhappy with the standard of the Greek centre-back's performances since he joined the German club
the summer.
The draws for the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League Round of 16 and the Europa League Round of 32 took
place in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday. In the Champions League, holders FC Barcelona meet German
club Bayer 04 Leverkusen as they continue their title defence. Arguably the round's most
competitive series sees seven time winners AC [.
Liverpool are apparently one of a number of European clubs interested in signing FC Cologne and
Germany striker Lukas Podolski. According to CalcioMercato, the former Bayern Munich striker is a
January target for Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal, Juventus and Lazio.Schalke are also allegedly
interested, and according to CalcioMercato, the German club is willing to pay up to £15m for the
26 year old.
So after an exciting first round in the Champions League, there are a few shocks and surprises
as the competition takes a 2 month break. Of course the major shocks are the exiting of Man United,
Ajax and Valencia.
Joining that clubs that had already qualified to the knock out stages are: Lyon, Basel, CSKA
Moscow and Napoli.
Disturbingly high squad numbers have been part of top level football for a few years now and
squad numbers as high as 99 are seen around Europe. The Premier League isn't immune from such
abominations with numbers in the 40s regularly sighted in stadiums throughout the UK. With this in
mind I thought I'd take a look at the biggest culprits from Europe's "Top Five Leagues": Serie A,
La Liga, Premier League, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga.

When he took the job as head coach of the US national team, Jurgen Klinsmann urged players in
Major League Soccer to keep playing at a high level throughout the offseason.
It appears as though they are listening.
Amobi Okugo became the latest American to earn a training stint at a European club on Monday

I must say I always enjoy it when a German club comes to town. They invariably bring loads of
fans, make lots of noise and have a cracking time. Marseille and Arsenal might still be in the
driving seats in this group, but Dortmund's win on Matchday 4* means they are very much back in it,
and if that fact hasn't been drummed into the team throughout this week in training then I'm a
goalscoring Dutchman.
Tonight Arsenal face a giant of a test when German club Borusssia Dortmund visit them at the
Emirates in a winner takes all Group F Champions League clash. Any slip up tonight from either
Arsenal, Marseille or Dortmund could effectively end their hopes of moving on to the knockout
stage.
Arsenal lead Group F on 8 points and Wenger will be hoping that his star striker Robin Van
Persie will carry on from Saturday and ensure the Gunners qualify with a game to spare.
German club Allemania Aachen now play in the splendidly modern New Tivoli Stadium, but their
home between 1928 and 2009 was the original Tivoli Stadium, which still stands as pictured above in
August this year.
Alemannia Aachen enjoyed considerable success in the 1960s, shortly after Tivoli's capacity was
increased, Bundesliga runners-up in 1969.

After a few days together in a training-camp setting in Germany, the U.S. Under-23 national team

Arsene Wenger is lining up a bid to bring Borussia Dortmund star Mario Goetze to Arsenal,
reports claim.
The Mail says AW sent chief scout Steve Rowley to watch the 19-year-old in Dortmund's Champions
League win over Olympiakos in Germany on Tuesday night.
The paper adds that Rowley was also joined at the BVB Stadion by another "senior Arsenal spy"
such is the club's seriousness about signing the player.

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - If there was a list of Americans players abroad off to hot starts this
season, DaMarcus Beasley would surely be near the top.
For the first time in years, Beasley has begun his club season in good form.
A day after Manchester United announced that both Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez won't be fit
for Tuesday's UEFA Champions League match against FC Basel, Arsenal revealed it has some injury
problems of its own.
Gervinho (hamstring), Theo Walcott (knee) and Laurent Koscielny (ankle) have all been ruled out

Well, would you believe it, a Newcastle striker target on the last day of the transfer window,
Papiss Demba Cisse, has just signed a big new deal at his German club, SC Freiburg. Papiss

Clemente Lisi writes of Michael Bradley's start to his Serie A career with Chievo Verona.
The opening weekend of Italy's Serie A brought with it the familiar sights and sounds. The
sight of loud fans tossing flares onto the field and the sound of coaches whining about referees.
In the middle of it all was one American among the nearly 500 players spread out across 20
clubs.

Bundesliga side Hoffenheim have reprimanded one of their employees after he allegedly rigged up
a loud speaker under the away stand to drown out Borussia Dortmund fan's derogatory chants about
the club's money man, Deitmar Hopp, with a high-pitched siren.
I like HSV. [Grumbles.] I don't like Juventus. [Grumbles again.]
That said, to put them on the same level, now or at any point in the near future is a bit much.
Quite a bit much. The Hamburglers don't quite have Juventus' name or stature. Or money. Or players.
Or potential.
