I stumbled across this story when catching up on all the latest football news and thought i
would highlight here not because it is one of the biggest transfer stories on this last day of the
transfer window, but rather because of its almost near obscurity.
Frankly, speaking , i thought Toni had retired from the game so imagine my shock when i read
that he had actually been with Juventus all this time.
So Arsene Wenger will make a signing in the January transfer window after all although it is
hardly likely to get moaning fans off his back anytime soon.
For we hear that Borussia Dortmund academy midfielder Thomas Eisfeld is set to join Arsenal
pending a successful medical examination.
Marco Reus, the rising star in the German Bundesliga having helped Borussia Mönchengladbach to
a respectable fourth place during the winter break, will be leaving the club at the end of the
season to play for Borussia Dortmund.
It was announced today on Mönchengladbach's website that the player will remain at the club for
the 2011-12 season before signing a five year deal with the current German champions Dortmund for a
transfer fee of 17,5 million Euros.
A plethora of streaks came to an end in today's Premier League action as Arsenal and reigning
champions Manchester United were held to home draws while under-pressure Chelsea finally won at
Stamford Bridge after back-to-back defeats in recent weeks.
In reality, though, the trend of streaks coming to an end started at Britannia, when Stoke City
ended a four-match slide with a 3-1 home win over the struggling Blackburn Rovers courtesy of goals
from Rory Delap, Glenn Whelan, and Peter Crouch.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger reserved special praise for midfielder Alex Song, who showed
tremendous dribbling ability to beat two Borussia Dortmund defenders en route to setting up Robin
van Persie's opening goal in Arsenal's massive 2-1 win.
The German champions took an impressive start at the Emirates in front of a strong traveling
support of seven thousand but after losing key midfielders Sven Bender and Mario Gotze in rapid
succession to first-half injuries, they looked exposed in the second half.
Two opposite results occurred for London duo, Arsenal and Chelsea on their Champions League
night as the former confirmed their passage into the next round while the Blues have to anxiously
wait and battle hard until the final day of competition.
The Gunners picked up an important victory over Borussia Dortmund at home with Robin Van Persie
once again act as the decider, while Andre Villas-Boas' team got pinned back by Bayer Leverkusen
despite taking an early lead.
Europe's premier footballing competition the Champions League resumes today with fixtures that
could mark the end of the journey for 16 teams. All teams will be left with one group match after
this round of fixtures however, many will not want to take any chances on their qualification to
the next round.
Arsenal forced a draw against Borussia Dortmund in Germany in September with the German Champions
forcing an equaliser in the last minute, but the Gunners could face a sterner opponent this time
around. Dortmund have improved in the Bundesliga since then and proved they were back in contention
with a hard fought 1-0 win over [.
Bundesliga blog: Big match preview FC Bayern vs Borussia Dortmund
Welcome to our new German football blog, courtesy of BundesligaFussball's Ross Dunbar *** All
eyes will be on the Allianz Arena on Saturday night as the Bundesliga resumes following the last
international break of the year.
After signing Per Mertesacker and being linked endlessly to Mario Gotze, Arsenal are now tipped
to land another German the 23-year old winger Kevin Grosskreutz.
Grosskreutz, who is Gotze's teammate at Borussia Dortmund, guided his current team to the
Bundesliga title with eight goals and seven assists last season.
Aaron Ramsey came off the bench to strike an injury-time winner that guided Arsenal to a famous
1-0 victory over Olympique Marseille at Stade Velodrome.
Earlier in the match, a blatant handball from Marseille's Souleymane Diawara went unnoticed as
the Gunners were denied an easy penalty decision.
Tomorrow sees the Arsenal step on the Stade Velodrome and take on the mighty Olympique
Marseille, for what is due to be an exciting clash for 1st place in Group F. With Olympiakos
winless and Dortmund disappointing, the Arsenal-Marseille clashes will likely dictate the final
standings of our group, so it's important to go and get a result out there tomorrow.
Arsenal's Champions League experience is continuing and the next challenge for Arsene Wenger's team
will be away from home on French territory against Olympique Marseille. The French are currently
leaders in Group F after wins against Greek team Olympiakos and German champions Borussia Dortmund.
Arsenal may be favourites in the Premier Leage betting to finish [.
Bundesliga blog: The attack may take all the glory but Dortmund's success is built on a
solid defence
Welcome to our new German football blog, courtesy of BundesligaFussball's Ross Dunbar *** Given
the level of competition in the Bundesliga this term, Dortmund have struggled to carry their top
form of last season into this campaign and have spent most of the nine weeks around mid-table.
I remember so very well where I was when Steve McClaren was stood stony-faced beneath an
umbrella in the pouring rain as England surrendered their opportunity to feature at Euro 2008. I
was in a pub in Holloway in North London, and the patrons of the establishment had come together
under a cloud of false hope.
After scoring two goals in our 3-0 win over Leeds United in the League Cup last night, Michael
Owen has insisted he will only be happy if he's playing more regularly and isn't here for the
money.
"I'm not content if I'm not playing," he said. "I get criticised a lot with things
like 'you don't play, you pick your money up' and all the rest of it but I'm not proud of that
fact.
It was interesting to see the media's contrasting reactions to our excellent point away to the
German champions to Manu's draw against a Benfica. There is no doubt that Dortmund are a
considerably stronger side than Benfica, but the media did not paint things like this, same old I
say.The most encouraging thing was the way in which we defended well as a unit even when he came
under a lot of
It was dark when I got up this morning. That's rubbish. Dark is for sleeping in, definitely not
for getting up in. Unless it's the middle of the night and you have to go to the bathroom.
On arising, one should be bathed in soft, warm light and that light and warmth should remain
with one throughout the day until you decide it's time to sleep again.
Conceding late on only to a wonder-goal from Borussia Dortmund yesterday, Arsenal showed a
new-found defensive solidity in their opening Champions League game of the season, and what might
be the hardest of this group.
It's easy to forget that, with their nine-year absence from the competition, Dortmund are
actually in it as German champions this year, and were never going to be easy to play away from
home, with German grounds usually providing the best atmosphere in Europe.

A trip to the German Champions in their mighty fortress was always going to be a difficult game.
We went with a team that is still getting to know each other's first names so the writing was on
the wall and every pundit pre match was predicting we would be lucky to escape with a draw.
Thiago Silva scored Milan's crucial equalizer in Barcelona on Tuesday
Concerns over FC Barcelona's defence continued after the first of this season's UEFA Champions
League matches were played throughout Europe last night.
The defending Spanish and European champions had home advantage in their Group H encounter
against AC Milan but were behind after just 25 seconds with Alexandre Pato scoring the fastest goal
ever scored in the competition.
Barcelona's quest to become the first team in history to retain the UEFA Champions League got
off to a rocky start with a draw to AC Milan as the home side conceded both in the first minute and
deep into second-half stoppage time.
Alexander Pato put visiting AC Milan ahead after just 25 seconds with an expertly taken
goal.
Arsenal conceded a late equaliser as they were pegged back to a 1-1 draw against Borussia
Dortmund in their opening Champions League Group F clash at the Westfalenstadion.
The German champions dominated the possession in the first half but Van Persie rounded off a
42nd-minute move that he started to give Arsenal the lead against the run of play.
Chelsea followed up on Frank Lampard's urgency for Champions League glory by opening their
campaign with an impressive 2-0 win at home to Bayer Leverkusen.
Second half goals from David Luiz and summer signing Juan Manuel Mata sealed all three points
for Andre Villas-Boas' men at Stamford Bridge at the expense of their German visitors.
The UEFA Champions League group stage kicks off on Tuesday with half of the teams in action, but
one match wil command a bit more attention than the rest.

Any trip to the Westfalenstadion is daunting. Even if Borussia Dortmund are not playing well, the
fans inside the 80,000 capacity stadium echo a hellish noise from the Südtribüne. Arsenal are not
only taking on this tonight, they are also taking on the German Champions. The task is immense and
recent form shows that the [.
After a close fought encounter against Swansea was decided by the most bizarre of goals, we're off
to the home of the current German Champions. With the team still adapting to the departures of
Fabregas and Nasri and our new signings still integrating into the side, it is a tough tie to have
at this [.
Morning all,
Champions League action tonight and we begin our campaign away at German champions Borussia
Dortmund. From our point of view the team news is that Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky are added to
our midfield injury list (quite the collection at the moment) but there are returns to the squad
for Alex Song and Gervinho, both of whom have been domestically suspended for their Bartonary
indiscretions.
Arsenal travel to Borussia Dortmund to kick off the Champions League group stage tonight. Facing
the German champions after a challenging start to the season and a crucial if somewhat
underwhelming 1-0 win at the Emirates against Swansea City on Saturday is a tough task, but that's
the scenario. No use wishing what might have been.
Per Mertesacker made his Arsenal debut at the weekend and tomorrow night he will make a return to
his homeland and make his Champions League debut for Arsenal against German Champions Borussia
Dortmund. He has been speaking about the game and has warned everyone it will not be easy against
last years Bundesliga winners.
After a home game that was tougher than it probably should be, we're now in a week where we play
two away games which are going to provide real tests to a squad still finding its feet.
Blackburn away next Saturday is never an easy game while tomorrow night our Champions League
campaign kicks off in Germany against Borussia Dortmund.
With the current turmoil at The Emirates Arsenal fans could be forgiven for forgetting that the
start of the Champions League Group stage is just around the corner but with more pressing issues
at hand, particularly in the Premier League where the Gunners have picked up just one point from
their first three league games, including the humiliating 8-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester
United Arsenal's season could be over before it's even begun and last week's Champions League
draw wasn't overly kind to the North London club either.
Two days after the drama of Italy Arsenal fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Our Champions
League group has us in an awkward group with Borrusia Dortmund, the German champions, Olympiakos
(Greek Champions) and Marseilles. Qualification will not be straight forward, but it never is for
Arsenal even when we win our first three games it goes down to the wire!
After a thrilling result on Wednesday, Arsenal were drawn as a top seed in the Champions League
group draw today, Thursday August 25.
Being seeded meant we avoided such big names as Barcelona, Inter, Bayern and Madrid, but anyone
who watches Champions League regularly knows that lower seeded teams can prove difficult.
Now, call me single minded but there is more than one reason for me enjoying current German
Champions Borussia Dortmund. Not only do I enjoy coverage of youngsters that have been given
licence to express themselves by impressive and passionate coach, Jurgen Klopp but it also gives me
hope. Hope and inspiration.

With the speed of a cheetah after it identifies its prey, the Scottish Premier League season
approaches. As players in other top flight leagues wake from their midsummer's naps and beginning
stretching for their pre-season action, SPL players are back on their training grounds, preparing
for matches that mean more than just a bit of fitness.
Liverpool have been told they will need to look elsewhere for a new central defender after Neven
Subotic confirmed he has no intention of leaving Borussia Dortmund.
Kenny Dalglish is eager to improve his options in central defence this summer and Birmingham City
defender Scott Dann is also a target.
It seems that top clubs are queuing up to sign Newcastle United left-back, Jose Enrique, in the
summer. Jose Enrique - in action at Blackpool yesterday And the latest club to be once again linked
with him are German Champions Bayern Munich, who are said to be ready to join Liverpool and AC
Milan in [.
