CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 7 Virginia women's soccer team concludes its non-conference

Cavaliers Continue Homestand Wednesday Against Liberty Virginia looks for second straight
win over in-state competition
CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 8 Virginia women's soccer team continues its season-opening
four-game homestand Wednesday as it hosts Liberty. Game time at Klöckner Stadium is set for 7 p.
At Sounder at Heart we like to say that we are supporters of supporters (some of us are actual
supporters as well). So we offer this message to you, from the fine folks at the Emerald City
Supporters who are opening up their remaining tickets for their trip to see the Seattle Sounders at
some local team in Oregon.
After signing three huge names in the past few weeks, the Sounders Women announced their season
ticket package. The package includes three friendlies and seven league games. Due to national team
demands the US Women's National team players "will be available for 6-7 of the 10 home matches
between April and July.
ECS has seen their gameday presence grow each of the Seattle Sounders' first three years in MLS.
During the group's end of year business meeting on Saturday, ECS Co-President Greg Mokos revealed
several changes for the 2012 season that will take their gameday presence to a whole new level.
Chief among the changes are ECS formally expanding into the upper sections of 121-123.
Previously it had been announced that the first home game would be August 16th (at a
confirmed 7PM) against Communicaciones of Guatemala. The first away match was
previously announced as at Monterrey on August 23rd but at 5 PM. That match is the chance at
history, as American sides still have yet to win a competitive match in Mexico.
If there was ever to a match to take a guest to, this would be it. Due to the Away Goal
tie-breaker, the better team being down a man, and a couple of San Francisco FC's players not
making the trip due to visa issues this should be a run and gun soccer festival. Seattle must win
be two goals, while to avoid overtime SFFC wants a single goal (overtime can only happen with a
1-nil Seattle Sounders regulation lead).
It's easy to go through your day to day routine and think that interaction with your local
professional soccer team only exists through the games the Chicago Fire first team plays. The
competition schedule does provide ample opportunities for interaction with the Chicago Fire and
other Chicago Fire fans but those games are just the tip of the iceberg on potentially getting
involved.
Kickoff for the Chicago Fire vs. New York Red Bulls Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal has
been changed to 5:00 p.m. CT due to a power outage at TOYOTA PARK. The match originally scheduled
for 7:30 p.m. CT was impacted by a severe thunderstorm that took place Monday morning and left over
817,000 customers in the Chicagoland area without power.
If anyone has anything else relevant to Saturday night's events -
especially videos - please email them or post them in the comment section.
During Saturday night's New England Revolution match against the Chicago Fire at Gillette
Stadium there was a disturbance in the general admission section known as "The Fort.

The Union defeated Rochester Rhinos, who were playing their third road game in five days, 3–0
in a game that saw an hour-long halt in play thanks to some rain. Check out PSP's match report and

CHARLOTTESVILLE Virginia alumnae Lori Lindsey and Becky Sauerbrunn, members of the
2011 United States Women's World Cup team, will be recognized during Thursday's women's soccer game
against Virginia Tech. The game begins at 7 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium and will be televised

$2 million for a Summer of Soccer in 1960: several decades before Soccer United Marketing and
others figured out the value of bringing Europe's best teams to play in North America during their
summer breaks, New Yorker Bill Cox had already given it quite a shot with the International Soccer
League.
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala A weathered, eight-lane track rings the field at Estadio Mateo Flores,
site of the 2011 CONCACAF U20 Championship. Far from the pitch, on a narrow strip of real estate
between lane eight and the near-empty stands, six young Americans juggle a single Nike ball. As I
observe from the press box that doubles as a VIP area and triples as general admission seating,
United States substitutes Cody Cropper, Eder Arreola, Moises Hernandez, Omar Salgado, Sacir Hot,
and Sebastien Ibeagha stay loose.
As previously announced in the previous announcement of the games, but confirmed yesterday, all 21
players from the USA's 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup Team will be in Kansas City and Portland for the
two "WNT Celebration Series" matches, which will put a close on this roster for 2011.

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Red Stars are in the driver's seat of the Women's Premier Soccer League's
Midwest-North Division, and they potentially can clinch a division crown this weekend.
J. Santacaterina, E. Weber, M. WeissenhoferThe Chicago Red Stars are joining the Women's Premier
Soccer League for the 2011 season. The Red Stars played during the Women's Professional Soccer
league's 2009 and 2010 seasons, and the organization elected to take a hiatus from WPS to shore up
its investment group.
The Chicago Red Stars Twitter page kicked off some dust last week and today a press release was
sent out that made it official: the Chicago Red Stars will be playing soccer in 2011. Red Stars
fans will have to get use to the WPSL not the WPL. WPSL stands for the Women's Premier Soccer
League and should not be confused with Women's Professional Soccer, the league the Red Stars
participated in for the 2009 and 2010 season.
Over the next few days, Major League Soccer teams will be continuing their preseason preparation
for the 2012 campaign. A number of those teams will be gathered in Orlando, Charleston or Tucson
as part of the Disney Pro Soccer Classic, Carolina Challenge Cup or the Desert Diamond Cup. Each
of the events feature multiple MLS teams performing in intimate venues in small tournament
set-ups.
This is only my second post so I hope if you, the audience, doesn't mind if I share something a
little more personal than what we usually see on Hot Time In Old Town. I have been in and around
Section 8 on gamedays for at least seven years now, but I've always been the seen-not-heard type. I
would like everyone reading this to get to know me a little better so as I begin my 25th year in
this world today I would like to reflect back upon my Section 8 origin story, the wonderful
experience of this past season, give my thanks to the Section and give words of encouragement to
those who want to join in with this wonderful madness.
The University of Virginia has been selected to host the second and third rounds of the 2011 NCAA
Soccer Tournament. The official press release is below:

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 21 Virginia men's soccer team will take on American
at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Klöckner Stadium. It marks the Cavaliers' final non-conference game, as well
as the start of three straight home matches to conclude the 2011 regular season.
Following the riots in London over the past few days, the powers that be have called off England
v. Holland for safety reasons. It would've been not only a dangerous stretch of the police force
for the game to go ahead, but also rather inappropriate. This means that Gary Cahill should be on
his way back to Bolton.
Despite recording more shots, Reading were defeated 1-0 by the Harrisburg City Islanders Tuesday
night at Exeter's Don Thomas Stadium.
In a matchup that featured both Union affiliated clubs, it was a goal by Harrisburg's Sainey
Touray in the 64th minute that proved to be the difference. While both teams had numerous
opportunities to score, neither could capitalize thanks to some quality goalkeeping.
Generations of Brazilians have grown up in the Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho, known around the
world as the Maracanã. Built for the 1950 World Cup and at the time the largest stadium in the
world, it became an instant national landmark, a symbol of Brazil's soccer-centric culture. The
stadium, which is likely to host the 2014 World Cup opener and final, is flanked by hills and
favelas, the city's notoriously poor slums.
