Sports Drinks And Hydration

A while back my daughter had a coach that flat out forbade them from bringing Gatorade to practice. Water was the only thing allowed. Her belief was that it hydrated them better. This didn't make the parents all that happy, especially when US Youth Soccer was advocating sports drinks simply because kids were more likely to drink them.

Recruiting class ranked 18th in nation

The University of Denver men's soccer recruiting class was ranked No. 18 in the nation by College Soccer News, marking the second straight season that DU cracked the Top 20.

The Pioneers welcome seven student-athletes, including a pair from the nation's top 75, the Gatorade Colorado High School Player of the Year and a member of Canada's U-20 national team.

We've reached the tail end of the 2009 Development Academy Spring Showcase, and we figured you'd be interested to find out the details of what goes into a weekend like this.
So, for your consideration:
-Over 23,000 bottles of Gatorade were given to players through the Gatorade Bar
-20,000 pounds of ice were used
-8,100 gallons of fluids (water and Gatorade) consumed by teams on the fields
-Approximately 4,000 spectators total for all four Showcase games this weekend
-2,200 Academy Players
-342 goals scored in the U17/18 division
-300 goals scored in the U15/16 division
-218 games played, 222 counting the YNT Showcase Matches
-162 soccer balls used
-150 officials
-23 balls retrieved from a canal that bordered one field
-4 games by Youth National Teams
-1 impromptu coaching lecture given by U-20 MNT head coach Thomas Rongen

PepsiCo will continue their sponsorship agreement with Major League Soccer, the US Soccer Federation, and SuperLiga, Soccer United Marketing announced on Thursday. The session went well, with the starting group knocking the ball around and working on crosses. The reserves participated in 7-v-7 matches on a small field.
