So it looks inevitable that Harry Redknapp will become England manager one day (unless Roy
Hodgson gatecrashes the party and becomes even more unpopular). He'll probably take charge at the
end of the season, and so we've tried to predict the 11 players he'd do well to pick.
We're aware that the teams lacking a lot of experience, apart from Rooney, Parker and Baines
(Hart too, to some extent), so maybe Jones could drop to the bench to be replaced by an older
head.
John Terry has been England captain three times. He has been stripped of the captaincy three
times. Rio Ferdinand has been England captain once. He does not want the England captaincy again.
Steven Gerrard has been overlooked for the England captaincy several times. He is no longer a
guaranteed starter in the side.
It's being reported that John Terry will be stripped of the England captaincy over a charge
for which he has not yet been tried for the second time in two years. The following is a transcript
of Terry's latest visit with FA chairman David Bernstein and England manager Fabio
Capello.
Bernstein: John, I'll make this brief.
Liverpool set up a Carling Cup final against Cardiff after playing out a thrilling 2-2 draw with
Manchester City at Anfield to advance 3-2 on aggregate.
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, City quickly drew level on aggregate thanks to a superb long-range
strike from defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong that flew into the top corner.
Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has sent a strong message to the club's doubters,
asserting that for all the criticism over their massive spending spree and unproven title
credentials, the Citizens have delivered on the promises made to him.
Speaking ahead of the decisive leg of City's Carling Cup semifinal against Liverpool tonight,
Barry revealed that he strongly considered moving to Anfield in 2009 before choosing the Eastlands
based largely on a commitment to build for the future.

Gareth Barry has acknowledged that Liverpool fans remain among the most influential supporters
in English football but the Manchester City playmaker has also criticized them for verbally abusing
him a few years ago.
Barry was touted as a replacement for Xabi Alonso and while the England international was even
on the verge of signing for Rafa Benitez, he moved away from the protracted transfer proposition
due to the impatience of Reds faithful.

Manchester city headed 3 points clear as they recorded a win over Wigan although the match
certainly won't go down as one of the greatest City performances of all time. I got a rather uneasy
feeling just before kick-off and it proved to be quite a nervy game all round as, I think it's fair
to say, City scrapped away to get a 1-0 victory in a half empty DW Stadium.

With so many gifted African players now plying their trade in the Premier League, the African
Cup of Nations has become something of an issue for managers in the top division, particularly as
it is held slap bang in the middle of the season.
Big blow for manchester City ahead of this weekend's FA Cup tie with Manchester United after
Ivory Coast coach Francois Zahoui rejected their request to play Yaya and Kolo Toure in Sunday's
Manchester derby.
"Clubs know the rules," Zahoui told BBC Africa. "I'm expecting them [the Toures] for the Fifa
deadline.
Normal service was resumed for 10-man Manchester City as they once again put daylight between
themselves and rivals Manchester United at the top of the Barclays Premier League table with
victory over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
After just one point and no goals from two matches, they were given an easy ride on their way to
opening up a three-point cushion over their neighbours, who will try to reduce the gap again at
Newcastle.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish called on his team to be more clinical after they were defeated
3-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The visitors enjoyed a large share of possession but again failed to make it count, which has been
their Achilles heel for most of the season.
It was Liverpool's first game without Luis Suarez after the club decided against appealing his
eight-game ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra.
Manchester City moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League as first-half goals
from Sergio Agüero and Yaya Touré paved the way for a comfortable home victory against
Liverpool.
Roberto Mancini Talking After The Match
Roberto Mancini's side were in a mini-slump after taken only one point from their two away
previous games, but they are a different side at home, dropping only two points at home in the
league in all of 2011.

Gareth Barry deserved red card Graham Poll
Referee Mike Jones was absolutely correct to dismiss City midfielder Gareth Barry in the 72nd
minute for a second bookable offence. Barry cautioned in the first half was warned by Jones just
two minutes earlier.

Manchester City 3-0 Liverpool | Premier League match report
Manchester City returned to authoritative ways. This may not have been a rout, but it was an
efficient win. When Gareth Barry was sent off in the 75th minute after a second bookable offence,
for fouling Liverpool's Daniel Agger, the side reacted almost immediately.
Pepe Reina's dismal form continued as he handed Manchester City the lead at the Ethihad Stadium
to-night as Liverpool went down 3-0 to ten man city who had Gareth Barry sent off 18 minutes from
time with the score 2-0.

The fall of 2011 has marked a turnaround of sorts for Gareth Barry. More confident performances for
Manchester City as well as the honor of scoring England's 2,000th goal in the 1-0 November friendly

Kenny Dalglish satisfied that Stewart Downing is proving his worth
The £20m winger returns to Villa Park still waiting for his first Liverpool goal or assist but
his manager is not concerned The focus on Andy Carroll irritates Kenny Dalglish immensely but it
will not appease the Liverpool manager that questions about value for money at Anfield go further
than the £35m signing from Newcastle United.

Just a few hours after getting done over by Chelsea at the Bridge, Man City celebrated their
Christmas party just down the road at the Anaya nightclub in Mayfair.
Sadly, there were no Azerbaijani cults, Bengal tigers or Dwarf darts on the night just a good
ol' fashioned fancy dress theme and, as with most fancy dress parties, some of the guests went all
out (Joe Hart, Owen Hargreaves, etc) and some skirted by on bits and bobs nabbed from their kids'
bedrooms at the last minute (Edin Dzeko).

England 1-0 Sweden: English youth reaps win - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Gareth Barry's deflected header gave England their second win in three days as the Three Lions
beat Sweden 1-0. Barry's goal on 20 minutes was the country's 2,000th goal and the only goal of
this game as Fabio Capello's men cruised to victory at Wembley.

Not that it really mattered, but England broke a 43-year hoodoo by beating Sweden for the first
time in 13 games at a sparsely-populated Wembley last night, with the narrow victory also affording
them their first defeat-less calendar year since 1994.
England manager Fabio Capello revealed he had ‘found what he was looking for' after victories
over Spain and Sweden.
The Three Lions defied the football betting on Saturday to overcome European and World Champions
Spain, with Frank Lampard grabbing the only goal.
Then on Tuesday Gareth Barry's header deflected in off Celtic defender Daniel Majstorovic to give
England their first win over Sweden since 1968.

We'll have some proper reaction up once we've cobbled it together later this morning but, rather
than the obligatory draw, a largely second-string England actually beat Sweden for the first time
since the year of our Lord 1968 (13 games if you're counting) at Wembley last night a 22nd-minute
own-goal from centre-half Daniel Majstorovic (with a cunning assist from Gareth Barry) eventually
proving to be the difference between the two sides.

1. 1-0 to the Eng-ger-land. Who said the defensive approach was just for the Spain game? Jack
Rodwell, Gareth Barry and Phil Jones in midfield. Now if we could just replace Theo Walcott and
Stewart Downing with Scott Parker and Lee Cattermole to add a bit more stability. 2. Hopefully the
goal will be given [.

It may have pace in abundance, but does Bob Mancini's latest big money target have the necessary
'footballing brain' to push on? Never stopped Shaun Wright-Phillips I suppose...
"£15 million you say? I'll take ten...and still pick Gareth Barry over all of
them.
In name it's only a friendly but when any world champion rolls up to Wembley everybody watching
can be sure it will be anything but. Spain, FIFA World Cup and UEFA European Championship winners,
are rightly considered the best team in contemporary international football. Some even consider
this Spanish side to be the best international team that has ever played the game.
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has been confirmed as the man who will lead England against
Spain in tomorrow night's highly anticipated friendly at Wembley.
Lampard had been widely tipped to take the armband in the absence of the rested John Terry but
in case the 33-year old was excluded from the starting XI, there were suggestions that Manchester
City's Gareth Barry would receive the honor.

Halloween came early to Old Trafford
City fans would like nothing more than Sunday's humiliation of Utd to signal a shift in the
balance of power. Pundits are already debating its merits. 6-1 is a historic statement and the
margin could have been even larger if Edin Dzeko had been on target in his first few attempts.

Mere hours after some kind of sick swan ran amok at Old Trafford, a rather glum-looking Wayne
Rooney celebrated his 26th birthday at Wings restaurant in Manchester with guests including
friends, relatives, colleagues and several of the chaps that had just tarred and feathered his arse
in the Manchester derby namely Joe Hart and Gareth Barry.

Bob Mancini was the first to admit that Man City were 'lucky' to register their first ever
Champions League victory over Villarreal yesterday evening, with substitute Sergio Aguero's 94th
minute goal plundering a come-from-behind win over the Spaniards at the death thus snaring a vital
three-point haul that puts City back in the running to emerge from Group A, despite things looking
a little bleak as the clock ticked over to '93:00′ at the Etihad last night.
