The inevitable African Cup of Nations championship matchup between the continent's two
powerhouses has made way for a title game involving an underdog side that is a win away from
capping off a Hollywood-worthy script.

In a rematch of their previous weekend's game, the Kansas Magic prevailed this time, scoring the
final goal in a back-and forth game and winning 6-5 on their home floor on Saturday, January
22.
The Magic opened the scoring at 4:24 of the 1st quarter as Mirsad Dzilic scored on a nice pass from
Chaz O'Dell, but the Kings responded at 5:46 with goal by Allen Eller, assisted by Drew Ducker.
The All-American showdown went to Landon Donovan, Tim Howard and Everton.
Donovan came up with two assists to guide the Toffees to a 2-1, come-from-behind victory over
Clint Dempsey's Fulham at Goodison Park in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday.
Donovan hit summer acquisition Denis Stracqualursi with a pinpoint left-footed cross from the
right in the 27th minute, and the Argentine headed it past Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale to
pull Everton level at 1-1.

The U.S. players had a lot to celebrate Saturday night
- Ricardo Clark's game-winner in the 97th minute marks the latest goal scored in the second half
by the United States in team history.
- Jurgen Klinsmann has collected back-to-back victories for the first time since becoming head
coach last summer, following the 3-2 win against Slovenia on Nov.

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The U.S. Men's National Team opened the year in dramatic fashion as Ricardo
Clark tallied a game-winning goal seven minutes into second-half stoppage time for a 1-0 win
against Venezuela at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
The U.
Inter's slender 1-0 victory over their city rivals Milan last night threw them back in the title
race. A 65th minute goal from Diego Milito was enough to hand Claudio Ranieri's men win the 204th
edition of the Derby Della Madonnina.
Juventus who were level on points with Milan before last night's round of fixtures also failed
to make most of their match against Cagliari as they were held to a 1 all draw at the Juventus
stadium.

Kansas City the Comets hosted Soccer Saturday at the palatial Sprint Center in front of a

The Philadelphia Union select Greg Jordan with the 32nd overall pick in the 2012 MLS
SuperDraft.
Jordan is a defensive type of midfielder, making him the fourth player on the Union that can
play in a central defensive midfield role (Brian Carroll, Gabriel Gomez and Amobi Okugo, as well).
He is a good passer of the ball and works hard throughout the midfield, a lot like Carroll.
While some continue to debate the merits of sending MLS stars on loan, those in the camp that
doubted the quality of MLS were dealt a blow today. Thierry Henry, after two seasons in Major
League Soccer, returned to Arsenal and scored a magical goal to win the third round FA Cup match
over Leeds.
Henry came off the bench to side-foot home the game winner in the 78th minute for Arsenal.

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- That a Dartmouth player is at the MLS Combine is an accomplishment in
itself. That a Dartmouth player shone on the first day of the event, which is notorious for being
rough for most participants, is even more impressive.
When the chips are down and the Miami Heat need a bucket, who do they go to? That would be NBA
champion and Finals MVP Dwyane Wade. For the second time this season, Wade delivered the
game-winner for the Miami Heat.
This time, Wade's shot downed the Minnesota Timberwolves by a final score of 103-101.

intriguing stories of 2011. (Photo: Chris Aduama/aduama.com)
If 2011 was a roller coaster year of the U.S. Men's National Team, it was a ride that featured
more plunges than peaks. A disappointing second place finish in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup was
followed by the sacking of head coach Bob Bradley after a five-year tenure that included a run to
the 2009 Confederations Cup Final and a trip to the 2011 World Cup Round of 16.

Let's face it: 2011 wasn't particularly kind to the New England Revolution. And that's probably
putting it lightly.
Nevertheless, the year wasn't entirely devoid of hope or optimism.

Scoring was not the easiest of things for the U.S. men's national team in 2011. It found the
back of the net just 16 times in 17 games for its lowest goal-scoring total in a decade.
That does not mean there weren't any nice goals, though.

With their first three picks in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, the Union selected two strikers and a
holding midfielder. All teenagers and, thus, long term projects, fans were still a bit surprised to
see a veteran striker and holding middie arrive during the offseason.
FC Barcelona won the match-up of the weekend, if not the season to date, with a thrilling 3-1
victory against arch-rival Real Madrid. Goals from Alexis Sanchez, Xavi and Cesc Fabregas helped
the reigning champions erase Real Madrid's three-point hold on first place in La Liga (though Real
Madrid still has a game in hand).
U.S. defender Oguchi Onyewu headed home the game-winner in the 22nd minute of Sporting's 1-0 win
against Nacional, his second of the season. With 26 points, Sporting now sit third in the
table.

Four schools remain in this year's NCAA men's soccer tournament. The College Cup has three
schools that most expected to be here and one that no one saw coming. The tournament's top two
seeds remain in UNC and Creighton while pre-season favorite UCLA the 13th seed and unseeded UNC
Charlotte hope to spoil the fun.
Heartbreaker, Record-breaker...
Once again Monday, it was Liverpool.
And given that Liverpool in some ways now represents the "English" hope as the home country
Premiership super club, perhaps it was again appropriate.
And again, the conductor was Clint Dempsey with the symphonic high note on a little flick of
his be-cleated baton.

Stanford's women's soccer team has completed its climb up the NCAA ladder. Finally.
After falling in the national title game in each of the last two seasons, Stanford held off Duke
to capture the 2011 title with a 1-0 victory in Kennesaw, Ga.

Plenty can change in terms of player development over the next number of years, but for the time
being, the United States Under-17 national team proved that there's much to be excited about when
it comes to the future of the U.S. program.
It took extra time on Saturday, but the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks picked up the team's third
national title since 2005.
Berekk Blackwell delivered a header off a Joey Madigan corner kick that gave Fort Lewis a 3-2
victory over Lynn about 90 seconds into the first overtime of the NCAA Division II men's soccer
championship in Pensacola, Fla.
The Los Angeles Galaxy opened their Asia Pacific Tour in winning fashion, posting a 1-0 victory
over the Indonesian National Select Team on Wednesday.
Robbie Keane scored the winner for the Galaxy, who trotted out the same starting lineup that
defeated the Houston Dynamo in the MLS Cup Final just ten games earlier.
Following the big win on Saturday at Lazio, there has been a lot of talk about game winner Simone
Pepe. A year ago there was a giant question mark in the minds of Juventini about the arrival of the
Italian international on loan from Udinese. His career prior to Juventus had been one of
uncertainty, as the winger had bounced around for most of his youth until finally stringing a few
years together.
FALL RIVER, Mass. He may not have a pink mohawk or have a life-sized wall decal in his
likeness, but Dominik Machado is gunning to become the next homegrown talent to emerge from the
Revolution Youth Academy.
After a pair of successful seasons with the U-16s, the creative midfielder didn't skip a beat
with the U-18s last weekend.

There will be no repeat for Caleb Porter and the Akron Zips.
The defending champions were unceremoniously dumped out at the hands of unseeded Charlotte with
a 1-0 defeat Sunday night. A first-half goal from A-10 rookie of the year Giuseppe Gentile proved
to be the difference as Charlotte handed Akron its first regulation loss in NCAA play since
2008.
Junior midfielder Andrew Ribeiro (Green Bay Notre Dame) scored his fourth goal of the
season – and fourth game-winner – as second-ranked Creighton scored twice in the opening 20
minutes and held off No. 13 UC Santa Barbara 2-1 Sunday in Omaha, Neb., to advance to the
quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.
A revenge goal, beautiful build-ups and top individual play. It's safe to say that Wednesday's
UEFA Champions League's marquee matchup lived up to its billing.
Barcelona captured Group G and forced Milan into the runner-up pot for the knockout stage draw
after an entertaining, 3-2 victory at the San Siro.

CHICAGO -- Eclipse Select Soccer Club alumna and Duke junior midfielder Nicole Lipp (Lake Forest,
Ill./Lake Forest) assisted both of her team's goals as the Blue Devils defeated Ohio State, 2-1, on
Sunday to advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.
Duke had to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit, and Lipp stepped up in the 54th minute as she took a
free kick from the right side and found the feet of freshman Kelly Cobb to tie the score at 1-1.

The Baltimore Blast bounced back in a big way last night as they defeated the previously unbeaten
Missouri Comets 10-8 in overtime at the Independence Events Center. In a possible championship
series preview, the Blast and Comets treated everyone to a thrilling game that featured end-to-end
action in the first half, a defensive stand off in the second half, and a flurry of action in the
overtime session.

the NCAA Tournament with a 2-0 shutout over Samford (14-6-2) on Friday night. Janice Cayman scored

PARIS, France – The United States Men's National Soccer Team's struggles to generate offense
continued on Friday as they fell 1-0 at Stade de France and are now 1-4-1 under head coach Jurgen
Klinsmann.
The Americans kept the French quiet during the first half, but the home side came out with
renewed life in the second period, keeping the visitors pegged back for much of the final 45
minutes and eventually finding the back of the net.

The Union will have a one goal differential to make up when they travel to Houston on Thursday
evening in the second leg of their playoff match up. A frantic first half saw Houston score on only
six minutes through Andre Hainault, only for the Union to equalize a minute later through Sebastien
Le Toux.
