In the 89th minute Saturday, Seattle Sounders striker Eddie Johnson streaked down the field and found space behind Rauwshan McKenzie before connecting with a bending cross from Freddy Montero, scoring the game winner against Chivas USA.
It was his second goal of the game and his second brace in a season in which he has scored 13 goals.

The Columbus Crew put together another two-win week, and the driving force behind the team's
recent surge continues to be Argentine playmaker Federico Higuain.
The newcomer continued to confound MLS defenses last week, recording multiple assists in a pair
of comeback victories for the Crew.
Was it a shot or pass? For Daniel Paladini, the only thing that mattered was that he was able to
put it into the net.
The midfielder scored what ended up being the game-winner in the 19th minute as the Chicago Fire
defeated the Houston Dynamo 3-1 in front of a crowd of 17,007 at Toyota Park.
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The William and Mary women's soccer team captured the 2012
Villanova Invitational with a 1-0 victory over Seton Hall on Sunday afternoon from the Villanova
Soccer Complex. Freshman Nicole Baxter connected on the game-winner in the 37th minute off an
assist from senior Cortlyn Bristol.
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The William and Mary women's soccer team recorded its fourth-straight
victory with a 1-0 triumph at Villanova on Friday morning. Senior Mallory Schaffer provided the
game-winner off an assist from classmate Cortlyn Bristol in the 80th minute. The win improves the
College's record to 4-2, while Villanova falls to 1-4-2.
With his performances for both club and country, Sporting Kansas City midfielder Graham Zusi has
quietly gone about the business of moving up the ladder of the U.S. Men's National Team.
"We are please with his progress, and that's why he is coming in again," said U.S. head coach
Jurgen Klinsmann.
In the eyes of many, the U.S. U-20 WNT went into the 2012 U-20 Women's World Cup semifinal in an
unusal role: underdogs. Coming off a 3-0 loss to Germany in its Group D finale, and facing a North
Korean team that had rolled through group play by scoring 15 goals, by far the most in the
tournament, while featuring no less than 10 players from its 2012 Olympic, well, you can see why
the Asian power was perhaps the favorite.
The first week of Division I soccer is in the books and our Sounders Academy alumni, to be
frank, collectively kicked ass and took names. Returning players continued to be a big part of
championship caliber teams and even some Freshmen wasted no time in establishing themselves on the
NCAA map.

OVERTIME 2-1
FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University took a 2-1 non-conference women's soccer double-overtime
home victory past the visiting University of Richmond from the Atlantic 10 Conference Friday night
at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.
Knoxville, Tenn. - The William and Mary women's soccer team dropped a hard fought,
1-0, overtime match Friday night to the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. After 90 minutes of action, the
two teams needed extra time to settle the dispute. In the 107th minute of the second overtime,
Tennessee netted the deciding goal on a penalty kick.
Kealia Ohai scores the game winner in the 44th minute following great work down the right flank
by full back Crystal Dunn and then celebrates a la Megan Rapinoe.
Congratulations, girls, that was a sweet victory against a formidable opponent who had beaten
the USA, 3-0 in the group stage.
Just days after falling to the German club 3-0 in the group stage of the tournament, the United
States shocked Germany 1-0 on Saturday to win the U-20 World Cup in Tokyo, Japan. Kealia Ohai
scored her second goal of the tournament late in the first half, which proved to be the
game-winning goal.
The one thing missing from the Seattle Sounders' arsenal this year has been the ability to score
a come-from-behind victory. Thanks to a pair of goals from Eddie Johnson, that's no longer an
issue.
Johnson scored a brace, with the game-winner coming on a 89th minute header from a Fredy Montero
assist, as the Sounders beat Chivas USA 2-1 on Saturday.
Matt Hedges has definitely not been a typical rookie for a majority of this season. However, in
Sunday's 2-0 loss at the Los Angeles Galaxy, the FC Dallas rookie center back definitely had a
pretty bad rookie mistake. His gaffe in the 66th minute that saw him dispossessed by the Galaxy's
Jose Villarreal led to the first goal of the game by Juninho, one which proved to be the
game-winner in a contentious win for the reigning MLS Cup champs.
New England Revolution striker Jerry Bengtson and Honduras kept their World Cup hopes alive with
an important 3-0 victory over Cuba at Estadio Pedro Marrero in Havana on Friday night.
Bengtson played the full 90 minutes in the match and scored the eventual game-winner in the 32nd
minute. Bengtson's goal came off a left footed volley from just outside the 6-yard box after
Georgie Welcome headed a cross from Emilio Izaguirre into his path.
Benny Feilhaber returned to form out on the left during Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Crew.

One-goal games.
It's often said that good teams prevail in one-goal games. That, somehow, whether it's squeezing
out the lone goal of a 1-0 win, or grabbing the game-winner in an offensive outburst, good teams,
more often than not, come out on top.
After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of
the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5
average, 10 perfection). This week Sean Donahue and Brian O'Connell contributed ratings for theÂ
New England Revolution's 4-3 loss to the Columbus Crew.
The Columbus Crew spent half the season struggling to generate goals as their defense and
goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum kept the team afloat, but times have changed in Columbus thanks to the
team's newest attacking acquisitions.
Costa Rican striker Jairo Arrieta and Argentine midfielder Federico Higuain scored two goals
apiece, including two Higuain set piece strikes and Arrieta's game-winner to erase an early
two-goal deficit and lift the Crew to a 4-3 victory against the New England Revolution at Crew
Stadium on Saturday night.
Saturday's win was the third straight match in which the Fire have scored multiple goals. This
all comes after only scoring 2 goals for the entire month of July. Yes, our last three matches were
against some pretty poor competition, but these are games good teams must win.
While part of the goal production can be attributed to the opponents the Fire have faced in
August, some of this credit should also go to the acquisition of Sherjill MacDonald and Alvaro
Fernandez and to the fact that Rolfe seems to be looking more comfortable with his role in the
team.
BRIDGEVIEW, IL.- Fans at Toyota Park were treated to plenty of goal-scoring action early and
often in Saturday night's Chicago Fire-New England Revolution, with three goals coming in the first
15 minutes of the match. Luckily for most of those fans, the Fire came away with the edge during
that flurry, as they continued their recent hot form with another victory.

Fernando Cardenas' 11th minute goal put an end to the New England Revolution's 269 minute
scoreless streak, but unfortunately for the Revs it was sandwiched between two goals for the
Chicago Fire in a 2-1 loss at Toyota Park on Saturday night.

The U.S. is going after its first win in World Cup qualfying at "The Office"
For all you stat folks out there, get yourself set up for tonight's World Cup qualifier with the
full USA-Jamaica game notes. Just in case, here's the crib version:
Eighteen players on the roster were part of the group that earned four points from the first
two World Cup Qualifiers this past June, including all three goal scorers: Clint Dempsey (2),
Carlos Bocanegra and Herculez Gomez.
Earlier today on Twitter @ussoccer, we asked if fans could name the U.S. players on this current
roster who have scored against Jamaica. The correct is three, and for one it was a very special
moment in his U.S. Soccer career.
In front of more than 45,000 fans at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., Jermaine Jones scored his
first goal in a U.
The current U.S. squad had two players find the back of the net for their club teams this weekend,
bringing a little extra zip in their step heading into training camp.
Jermaine Jones scored the game-winner for Schalke when he finished off a mazy run with a rifle to
the far post, the hosts running out 3-1 winners against Augsburg.
After the night Nick Rimando had in goal for Real Salt Lake, there's no question he'd like to
have one moment back.
Rimando, who saved a Brad Davis penalty and a point-blank Will Bruin header late in the second
half, committed a foul on Mac Kandji that led to a last-second penalty, one that Colin Clark
converted to give the Houston Dynamo a 1-0 victory over RSL at BBVA Compass Stadium Thursday
night.
The U.S. Under-20 women's national team will get a chance to make up for its one major blemish
at this year's World Cup on the biggest possible stage.
Goals from Morgan Brian and Keaila Ohai lifted the U.S. U-20s to a 2-0 victory over Nigeria in
the semifinals at National Olympic Stadium in Tokyo Tuesday, putting them in position capture a
third U-20 World Cup title.

Marquette defender Vanessa Legault-Cordisco was again in the starting XI as
Canada fell to Norway 2-1 at the FIFA Women's Under-20 World Cup on Thursday in Kobe, Japan.
The Canadians (1-1-0) saw goalkeeper Sabrina D'Angelo save a first-half penalty
kick and took the lead on Jenna Richardson's goal just before halftime, but
Ada Hegerberg equalized in the 52nd minute and her sister Andrine
Hegerberg scored the game-winner in the 79th as Norway improved to 1-1-0.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men's soccer team scored its first win of the season Friday

After having everything last weekend go the Chicago Fire's way playoff wise, it'd be pretty
unlikely for the same thing to happen twice in a row. Indeed, not everything went the Fire's way,
but it wasn't necessary. The Fire got the job done this weekend and are totally in control of their
own destiny.
Steve Zakuani's return and assist should be the glory of the game. That moment put smiles on so
many faces. After many long months of hope Zakuani returned to the pitch and performed admirably.
September 2nd isn't a day that will be remembered as a the Sounders first ever US Open Cup win, but
as the day that Steve Zakuani didn't just play, but played well and was clearly a starter.
I have a new man-crush. Well, it's not really new, it's an old one that keeps coming back. It
comes around the time of every USMNT game. Mr. Tim Howard, I salute you and your cat-reflexes. What
a game, huh? I understand it was "just" a friendly, we got killed in the stats, and perhaps luck
was on our side, but all that aside, the American side won.
Arsenal's South Korean striker Park Chu-Young showed in the Olympic Games this summer that he
still has the scoring touch when it comes to playing for his country. We don't really know how good
he could be with the Gunners since he hasn't been given a chance to prove himself by manager Arsene
Wenger as of yet.
