Major League Soccer's seventeenth season begins in less than two months and as the teams prepare
for the on pitch action their fans will prepare to follow them from not only stands, but with
social media.
Their two main online allies? Facebook and Twitter.
Since the beginnings of MLS in the mid-1990s the Internet has exploded and in the last five years
the advent of social media has changed the face of sports in the United States and the world.
Still no power, so here is a quick survey of how the local newsapers are covering their team's
win or loss in Sunday's compelling Conference Final matchup. We'll start in Utah, where RSL
continues to enjoy strong local coverage from both the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News. The
Trib sports section included a hard news report on the 3-1 defeat as well as an array of stories
in the days leading up to the match.

Following a seven-day camp in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., US head coach Pia Sundhage has named the
24-player roster that will travel to Portugal for the Algarve Cup (March 2-9). Sundhage will name a
20-player roster before the start of the tournament.
Hope Solo will go on this trip, but is not ready to compete in matches, and will be in Portugal
to train as she enters the final stages of rehabilitation from shoulder surgery.
