Deportivo Saprissa is set to allow Josue Martinez to move to the Philadelphia Union, according
to La Republica.
A throwaway line in the website's game recap of Saprissa's 2-2 draw with Alajuelense included a
comment about Martinez's future with Saprissa, saying that the 21-year-old had played his last game
with the Costa Rican power.
This article is straight up guesswork and pure conjecture on my part. Again I am
GUESSING, but I think it is a pretty educated guess. I am basing my article on this the
article on Portland's website talking about Gavin's travel and specifically on the following
quote.
"I've been following a player from Chico for a while," he hinted.
Well, this is truly a tough day and match for Fire fans. As Merwin lamented in his post game
recap of the Dallas match, not only is the door pretty much slammed on the Fire's playoff hopes,
but they played a pretty poor game Wednesday night to boot. While the Men in Red certainly have the
talent to beat DC United tonight, one has to wonder how much is left in the tank and if they can
overcome the heartbreak that has been the past 11 days or so.
In doing research for a story on Chicago Fire goals this season, I came across a couple of
irregularities on the assist credits for some tallies. The initial press release after a game might
have done something like given a second assist credit to Marco Pappa on Cory Gibbs' header vs. San
Jose when he really didn't do that much to set up Baggio Husidic's ball into the box.
The Chicago Fire's 2011 MLS Regular Season has essentially become an exercise in preparing for
the 2011 U.S. Open Cup and the 2012 MLS Regular Season. Last week's 4-2 loss to the expansion
Vancouver Whitecaps was no doubt the worst moment in the Fire's 2011 campaign and it might have
been the worst moment in the club's entire history as Stephen Piggott opined in last week's game
recap.
Tomorrow the Chicago Fire will take on Manchester United in a game that is less competitive than
pre-season scrimmages. At least in pre-season scrimmages, players are fighting for their role on
the team. That doesn't mean tomorrow's game won't be fun and that doesn't mean that tomorrow's game
isn't an important opportunity for the Fire to develop.
Quick and Dirty:
First half: No one scored. Jalil Anibaba missed a free header off a corner. LA had a few
opportunities but no shots were put on goal. The Fire defense was up to the task in the first half.
The LA defense decided to be overly physical with anyone who was born in Ghana.
When MLS debuted their new "Project Ramos" site it came with the promise of increased stats and
information on an unprecedented level for MLS. And then it actually came and it really didn't look
too different from what we had all grown used to. Today, however, MLS has delivered on their
promise with a new stats category under each game recap that will not only allow us to better serve
you guys with our reviews but also so that you can go in and review the game yourself.
Time for another gathering of links from around the MLS blogosphere to get you, our intrepid,
genius reader up to date.
In case you want a bit of video recap to go with your text recap check out the MLS recap show
for week 14. Please note for some reason the mind's behind the video feed at MLS soccer split this
thing up into three parts.
Paying attention to what is going on with the rest of the league is important. I can't encourage
you enough to subscribe to MLS Matchday Live just for the condensed highlights available to get a
decent glimpse of what went on with each game beyond the highlights. We here at Hot Time want to
help by providing links to game recaps so all of us can become better educated fans of MLS.
Yesterday was certainly an eventful Memorial Day for many MLS fans as two teams decided to ditch
their respective head coaches. Our friendly neighbors to the north, the Vancouver Whitecaps, bid
adieu to their long time USL coach Teitur Thordarson and the Chicago Fire opted to seek out a
different direction than where Carlos de los Cobos was taking the team.

The U.S. Open Cup match against Colorado left Carlos de los Cobos with a new and different
puzzle to solve. Marco Pappa was out for international duty and Josip Mikulic was out with a minor
injury. Pappa and Mikulic had been locks in the middle of the Starting XI so I was intrigued to see
the solutions CDLC would bring to the table.
The home opener. A tradition of 12,000 hard core Chicago Fire fans braving the elements to watch
their team. For the fourth year in a row I am proud to be among them. This was by far the coldest
Chicago Fire game I have attended. I sat in my seats surrounded by folks who turned out to be
knowledgeable fans and had a fantastic time.
It has been reported that Ben Olsen did not want to discuss the officiating in this match. I too
would like to take the high road, almost. It is without question that the game was littered with
incorrect or questionable calls. Still, United should have done better. This is a tough loss for a
team coming from the momentum of an emotional opening week win.
What an exciting way to return to the season. United showed a new look and a new attitude to the
game. First a few observations followed by player ratings.
Observations:
-You could tell from the very beginning that this team is different from last year.
Welllllllllll .... That was exciting, no?
El Salvador took it to the wire, but in the end the U.S. U-17 MNT won 3-2 to earn a place at the
FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico AND in the semifinals of the CONCACAF championship.
