In late September, Lieberman was named to the U.S. Futsal national team. Now the goalkeeper is a professional soccer player.

Lieberman recently signed with the Norfolk SharX, an expansion team in the Major Indoor Soccer League.

We've already seen a player notch with his crotch today, so bona fide Brazilian futsal legend Falcao's injury-time goal against Russia in the Grand Prix final continues the theme nicely in so far as the tricky-dicky 34-year old veteran scored the late winner with his left breasticle to secure a 2-1 victory at the death and, by extension, that Brazil lifted the trophy on home soil.

The U.S. Futsal national team, led by Milwaukee Wave coach Keith Tozer, finished 0-3 at the Grand Prix tournament in Manaus, Brazil.

The Americans, ranked 24th in the world, lost to No. 27 Uruguay 7-0 and sixth-ranked Iran 8-0 on Monday before closing out Group C play at the elite tournament Tuesday with a 10-7 loss to Belgium.

Jeremy Ortiz, a native of Edison, NJ, has been selected for the US National Futsal Team. A four year starter and co-captain in his senior year at La Salle University, the midfielder/forward has also played for Ocean City Barons, now the Ocean City Nor'easters, of the USL Premier Development League, and played professional soccer for the New Jersey Ironmen and Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League.

My buddy, Ed and I continued our almost weekly dissection of Liverpool's weekend performance after a friendly game of indoor futsal. Now Ed is a guy with a rather thought provoking mind. When it comes to U.S. national outdoor soccer teams, the South Bay is already home to all but the Under-17 boys national team program (that has its HQ in Bradenton, Fla.

In a coup for Torrance's South Coast Soccer City the state-of-the-art 73,000-square-foot futsal facility that includes an international size field will host the U.

Each of these competitions has its own vested interest and with a limited talent pool, the same girls or boys are training and playing in the same elite competitions across all of these areas, with no co-ordination whatsoever.

Though FIFA has nearly 200 member nations, only a fifth of those countries have official player associations. Until yesterday Guatemala was one of the numerous countries that lacked an organization for its players, until Guatemalan soccer players Gonzalo Romero (Municipal), Luis Swisher (Universidad) and Erick Acevedo (Glucosoral Futsal)came together to form one.

Great news for Canberra's boys - they finally have somewhere to test their skills outside of the confines of the local (tiny) boundary.
