Arsenal does not really do transitional seasons, or does it? Somehow, through the magic of
Wenger, we have been able to rebuild squads and first teams without losing sight of silverware and
European football in every single season the Frenchman has been at the helm.
Choke slams and gentle slaps This week, the OTP Podcast chaps celebrate the return of the Champions
League by jetting off around the world to find footballing fights and frolics, rather than spending
a Tuesday night in with the wonders of Plzeň v BATE Borisov. It's what Michel Platini would have
wanted, surely?

Why Spurs and Arsenal have provided an abject lesson in how NOT to use the transfer
window
Amid the smouldering remains of the Premier League hopes of Tottenham and Arsenal, a lesson has
been learned in the boardrooms of White Hart Lane and The Emirates. That would be how and how not
to use the transfer window .
The city of Manchester has two of the best teams in the world, and with a spectacular start of the
Premier League (surely the best league in the world), both teams have become candidates for the
title. On one side, Manchester City has invested heavily into building its new team, and that seems
to be bearing fruits: today they played Tottenham, and with spectacular four goals by Edin Dzeko,
as
Fabian Castillo will likely be a poster child to this new addition to the DP rule. (Getty

Just as the summer transfer window closed with the news of Robbie Keane signing with the LA
Galaxy, MLS has decided to set a press conference for tomorrow to make some changes to their
Designated Player rule.
One of the many vagaries of the transfer window (of which I am totally against) is the pattern of
behaviour that leads to a mad-dash on deadline day.
The 24-hours sports news channels love it, and to an extent so do the fans, but for the clubs it
sabotages the opening weeks of the season.
Because after surveying the 18 clubs that took part in the opening round of games it is clear we
can't judge how they will fare during the season as they have not yet completed their shopping,
making Premier League betting an unpredictable exercise.

Liverpool have been busying hosting a media day at Melwood today and the club took the chance to
round up the fruits of their summer wranglings Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Doni and Stewart
Downing for a few snaps outside with Dr King Kenneth.
This 'ere is what the lion's share of £50 million gets you these days.
Some readers may have wondered where the two drawings that appear on each page of this site come
from. The answer? Ben Piggott, whose fruits of graphite can also be seen at Daily Pen. Here, Ben
uses his enthusiasm for tournament football to give us a summary of how all those Football
Leaguers (or should that be Championshippers?
Finally the second MLS victory has come. After 14 very long games of draws and losses, the
Vancouver Whitecaps clicked together, providing a great attacking display while also stopping the
Philadelphia Union from scoring. While the match ended 1-0 at the Empire, the Caps had
plenty of chances which could've/should've been scored.

Good afternoon all. We've just finished a wonderful two weeks of Azzurri action. Albeit, we did
have to watch Gilardino and Mauri struggle to meet our fanatic expectations; Prandelli for the most
part did a great job. I'd say, he banished the ghosts of Lippi#2 and Donadoni for the time being
and all seems to be back on track in Azzurri land.
In the last couple of games Newcastle fans have seen some fruits of Newcastle's burgeoning Youth
policy on Tyneside. Shane Ferguson 19 year-old was Man of the Match at Stoke City And those were
two excellent performances from 19 year -old left back Shane Ferguson, the Northern Ireland
International, who can play at left [.
Italy pranced about 2010 like an adolescent; arrogant until humiliation, then accepting that
hard work was needed to mature. Under Lippi and before the World Cup, the team seemed to stumble
about it's business, never really trying. It had an arrogant air about it, as if it were the best
in the world and didn't need to step up it's game.
