You turn you're back for one second and what happens? Just three months and three friendly games
before Euro 2012 gets under way in June, Fabio Capello resigned as England manager last night
after spending the afternoon bickering with FA chairman David Bernstein and general secretary Alex
Horne at Wembley over his comments made to the Italian media vis-a-vis the FA's premature decision
to strip John Terry of the national captaincy.
The international week is over (thank whichever God you want!) and even though we've had almost
only friendly games, it was an exciting one nevertheless, even though I found it hard to drag
myself away from InstantPokerMoney.com to watch it! Arsenal's midfielder Thomas Rosicky managed to
snatch the qualification to the EURO 2012 with the [.
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell was in a pretty combative mood Tuesday at a conference in Doha
as he took aim at both FIFA and UEFA.
Rosell was asked whether clubs would ask FIFA and UEFA to pay players during the World Cup or
European Championship and he replied:
"This is what we are discussing with both institutions.
Former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has mocked England by suggesting that the only way the
Three Lions could score against his Spain side was from a set piece and that the visitors dominated
throughout the 90 minutes at Wembley on Saturday evening.
World champions Spain lost 1-0 after Frank Lampard got at the end of a free-kick sequence to nod
home the only goal of the match.
Liverpool will seek assurances from the Football Association that Steven Gerrard's workload will be
carefully managed in England's home friendlies against Spain and Sweden next month.
Gerrard only returned to first-team action at Anfield earlier this month after being sidelined
since March with a groin injury.
Rangers' bean counters offer friendly welcome to Liverpool
Kenny Dalglish's side head to Ibrox on Tuesday for a friendly that will help both clubs to raise
a few much-needed coppers The last time Rangers invited Liverpool to Ibrox for a friendly the home
side were left with such a bloody nose that a re-run of the fixture would hardly have been high on
their agenda.

Since its 2011/12 season kicked off in all competitions on Aug 1 Bayern Munich has won 11 and lost
1, and only conceded 1 goal!
Disappointing news arrives from Newcastle United's camp as the club revealed that one of their
new summer signings, Davide Santon is set to take a month rest from the playing field as the
ex-Inter Milan player will be facing a surgery to his knee.
The bad news was reported by the club's manager, Alan Pardew, who looked very worried with his
new player's condition revealing that Santon might be facing a cartilage problem.

This week's KYW Philly Soccer Show podcast comes on the heels of Wednesday's 4–4 comeback
thriller at PPL Park. The Union, facing a 4–1 deficit at halftime, rallied to earn a 4–4 draw
against the New England Revolution. The Philadelphia team was powered by two goals from Sebastian
Le Toux, who has three tallies in the last two games.
We mentioned in an earlier post that Steve Cherundolo has played the most games for the United
States on European soil of any player on the roster. ussoccer.com spoke to Steve about his
experiences playing on the continent...
Cherundolo has come up big for the U.S. in Europeussoccer.
For those of you who missed it, FIFA announced its revised edition of its World Rankings
yesterday and I'm sure that many of you will be as surprised as I was when you see the top ten
looking like this:
- Netherlands
- Spain
- Germany
- England
- Uruguay
- Brazil
- Italy
- Portugal
- Argentina
- Croatia
Before I start my argument, perhaps we should look briefly at how this is worked out:
There are three main categories to decide where points are awarded; firstly, you have to win or
draw, no points will be awarded for a loss.

Arsenal ended their set of pre-season friendly games with a 2-1 defeat against Benfica and plenty
of injury concerns ahead of next week's first Premier League game of the season. Speaking after the
defeat, manager Arsene ...
REAL MADRID finishes its China Tour with a 0 - 6 victory over TIANJIN TEDA & now flies back to
Spain to prepare for next weeks Spanish Super Cup 1º leg against FC Barcelona. A comfortable match
for the Spanish Football Club that served to give all the players - new & regulars - a run, a
chance to make a statement & to profile the starting 11 for the upcoming Spanish Football season.
SPANISH FOOTBALL Club REAL MADRID continue fine tuning their team & "machine" with a 1 - 7 victory
over the current China Super League leaders GUANGZHOU EVERGRANDE in the first of their friendly
games while in China. Very humid & steamy conditions that did not seem to halt too much Real Madrid
as Coach Jose Mourinho profiles his starting 11 for the upcoming Spanish League - Liga season, &
why not
Losing their captain, Steven Gerrard, until September seems not only the problem that Liverpool
might be facing in the early weeks of the new premier league season, as their defense could be
something worrying also especially after the results the club's having in their current
pre-season.
Conceding 18 goals in six friendly games surely isn't promising for a team that want to
challenge for trophies next summer and one of the Reds' main defenders, Daniel Agger, acknowledge
the problem, thus encourages his teammates to fix it immediately.
REAL MADRID notched up its fith straight pre-season friendly victory 1 - 2 against English 2 º
Division Club LEICESTER. Don´t know if it was just me but it seemed an odd game without the fluid
movements & intensity of previous encounters. Perhaps it was the fact the Real Madrid Coach
Mourinho "experimented" more in this match & that did not allow the side to fully blend together.
They say that ‘absence makes the heart grow fonder', and after a small eternity of not seeing
the mighty Arse play, I cannot wait for the new season to start. Simply seeing our players on a
green pitch again during recent friendly games, made me realise how much I've really missed our
team over the last few months.

As you may have gathered, there's not really an awful lot going on today save Kun's imminent
move to City, so we're hoping that this round-up of decent goals from various friendly games around
the world will go someway to filling your daily quota of football goodness.
FC BARCELONA is presently in Munich (Germany) in a fabulous tournament with Porto Alegre, Milan &
hosts Bayern Munich. Yesterday Barça won the Brazilian team PORTO ALEGRE 4- 2 in the penalty
shoot out after the match finished in a exciting 2-2 draw. Barcelona gave a run to most of its
players especially the youngsters & changed the composition of the team during the match.

The rules say that a club wanting to acquire a player must get the consent of the player's
current club before beginning a discussion of any sort with the player:
"Any Club which by itself, by any of its Officials, by any of its Players, by its Agent, by any
other Person on its behalf or by any other means whatsoever makes an approach either directly or
indirectly to a Contract Player except as permitted by either Rule K.
Manchester United winger, Nani, once again stated his confidence in battling out for a place at
the Red Devils' first team line up for next summer as despite the fierce competition that arrives
in the summer especially with Ashley Young and Danny Wellbeck arrival. '
The fact that the two have been tried out as wide players in recent friendly games, obviously
endangered the Portuguese' position as a starter at United considering there are still other
players in that role such as Antonio Valencia, Park Ji Sung or even veteran Ryan Giggs.
It's as though Patrice Evra thoroughly enjoys being so widely hated by Arsenal fans, who sing
that he's a "cant" every time the two teams mate.
After previously claiming that Samir Nasri needed to join Manchester United if he wanted to win
trophies, Evra has again reiterated the fact he has spoken to the players about the benefits of
joining our club.
Raise your hand if you are tired of these midseason MLS friendlies.
(raises hand)
On Wednesday, there were five of these friendlies and another match that was associated with the
so-called World Football Challenge.
Every July, MLS puts the regular-season on the backburner and paves the way for these midsummer
friendlies.
REAL MADRID played its second "friendly" pre-season game as part of their self proclaimed "US
Tour", & defeated 0 - 3 Mexican Club CHIVAS DE GUADALAJARA. The game had one dominant player,
CRISTIANO RONALDO, who scored a HAT TRICK. That is, in a space of 10 mins, the Portuguese player
scored three goals.
Real Madrid 2011 SPANISH FOOTBALL Club REAL MADRID started on Monday ( yesterday ) their pre-season
& flew off immediately to Los Angeles (USA) to begin their training sessions . Four players stayed
back in Madrid that indicate the Coach Jose Mourinho does not count with them for 2011-2012; Pedro
Leon, Sergio Canales (also with U-20 Spain duties), Drenthe & Lass Diarra.
Newcastle United have announced a friendly match against Italian Serie A side, Fiorentina. The

Tomorrow morning, the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs will begin and the Philadelphia
Union academy system is well-represented. The Union's three USSDA affiliate clubs, PA Classics, FC
Delco, and Players Development Academy, have all qualified teams for the playoffs at least one of
the U18 and U16 age groups, and there will be four Union-affiliated teams taking the field this
weekend at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.

I have mentioned previously during the 2011 Asian Cup how the Asian football has improved a lot,
and the quality of football we seen in that competition was really good and some games were
comparable o World Cup second round and even quarter final games.
This week friendlies came with such very interesting results for the Asian football, it is one more
indication that this continent is going to do something impressive in the near future, and it is
not less than African continent now.
Conflicting stories are emerging over the fitness of Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Spurs' Champions
League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid.
The former Manchester United player recently missed two of his side's games before returning for
the second leg of their last 16 match against Lyon.
I wrote an article at the weekend stating that John Terry could be reinstated as England Captain
ahead of the upcoming friendly games this month. I have to state right now nothing is confirmed,
but it seems that Fabio Capello has decided to give the armband back to Terry permanently with what
happened in Denmark the reason.
This week there were several friendly games amongst which France Brazil, a classic! France won 1
0 helped by a Brazilian player being sent off just before the end of the 1st half. I think that
friendly games are there to help coaches prepare their squads for the different competitions they
are involved in.
