The weekend began Friday afternoon (for those of us on this side of the Atlantic it was Friday
night in France, where the match was played) with the UEFA Supercup between Chelsea and Atletico
Madrid.
By the time we tuned in to check the score, it was halftime, and the score already 3-0 via a
hat-trick for exactly who you would think would be lighting it up.
The long, drawn-out saga surrounding Clint Dempsey's club future has finally come to an end, and
it has ended with his long-sought move to a bigger club than Fulham.

details yet on the transfer fee, but Dempsey arrived at Spurs Lodge on Friday afternoon to undergo
his medical and has now completed the move.
A crowd of 329 people turned out at Treyew Road yesterday afternoon to see Truro City beat
Boreham Wood by two goals to nil in the Blue Square Bet South, but it seems unlikely that events on
the pitch made for too much of the discussion amongst the clubs supporters. As has seemed to
frequently been the case over the last year or so, goings-on in the boardroom have been hogging the
headlines at this particular club, with Fridays announcement that it is to enter into
administration throwing the future of Cornwalls most successful non-league club into doubt.
The news, such as it is, from Northwich Victoria continues to baffle and perplex. The last time
we heard from this particular club, it was starting to sound as if the proverbial fat lady was
starting to clear her voice. With crowds already having dropped following their eviction from the
Victoria Stadium in January, it was announced on Friday afternoon that, from the start of next
season, the Vics will be sharing the Martson Road home of Stafford Rangers, more than forty miles
from Northwich's base in Cheshire.
The Lions opened at UMSL on Friday afternoon and built upon the foundation laid in last year's
late season run to the MIAA Championship, earning a tie at under difficult conditions. Playing on a
rain-soaked pitch, in a game halted at one point due to tornado warnings, the team earned a point
on the road against a GLVC Tourney qualifier.

The flawless logic of Andres Villas-Boas: Announce Michael Dawson as your new club captain,
agree to sell him to QPR the very next day.
On Friday afternoon, when asked about who would be recovering the captain's armband from the
sparking heap of component parts which used to be Ledley King, AVB told a press conference:
"We have our point of reference this year, which is Dawson, and we hope to keep it that way

Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini is back in the Newcastle starting line-up for the Premier

A very quick Saturday round-up for you on a rainy bank holiday Saturday.
There was an expectation that the club would announce the signing of Santi Cazorla yesterday but
it did not transpire. Those sitting F5ing the official site spent a fruitless day, but I wouldn't
worry about it too much.

It's Friday afternoon, and lately that has meant it's trading time.
The Chicago Fire announced Friday that the club has acquired Alvaro Fernandez from Seattle
Sounders FC in return for allocation money. Fernandez will occupy a Designated Player slot.
So, it's Friday afternoon, gorgeous outside. Since I put off writing a Western Conference Weekly
this week, because of the Timbers not playing this weekend, I'm doing it now, while the sun is out
and the sky is blue and it's absolutely perfect outside. Clearly Geoff didn't agree to let me write
for Stumptown Footy because of my abundant intelligence.
On Friday afternoon, the Montreal Impact selected United States International Eddie Johnson via
the allocation process. Per MLS rules, the Impact will now move to the back of the allocation order
for the next time a player enters this process.
After only an hour of being a member of the Impact, it was announced that he was traded to the
Seattle Sounders in exchange for Lamar Neagle and Mike Fucito.

In what could be described as an early season three pointer, the Revs dropped a disappointing
decision to hated rivals D.C. United on Saturday afternoon 2-1. Rivalry matches seem to always
bring out higher scrutiny, bigger pressure, and heated debate, and this one is certainly no
different.
Once again the Revs had their hands a bit tied with injuries (Lozano, Feilhaber) and suspensions
(Shalrie), so it was up to coach Jay Heaps to get creative and try to put forth a game plan that
would garner three points at home.
The Philadelphia Union announced on Friday afternoon that Roger Torres underwent successful
surgery to repair injuries to his left knee sustained in Monday's Reserve League match against New

Harking back to a previous dabble into the annals of football stickerdom in the

Watching Brazil steamroll over Great Britain on ESPN3 Friday afternoon, it was all too apparent how

Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) started as 10-man Canada got past host Cuba 1-0 in an

Skip back to Friday afternoon and Reading kept their timely streak going, beating Leeds 2-0 to
temporarily yomp to the top of the Championship thanks to Adam Le Fondre's late double.
As expected, there were a few choice tackles over the course of the game (Leeds' Zac Thompson
was sent-off after 13 minutes) with Reading's Jem Karacan finding himself on the receiving end of
several 'robust' tackles before Michael Brown's flying gooch-first lunge finally caused the
Turkish-ish midfielder to limp off with the 23-year old eventually leaving the Madjeski on
crutches.
