In October 2001, the national football teams of France and Algeria faced off in a long-awaited, and (at least in principle) "friendly" international game at the Stade de France in Paris. Jouanno said no anti-discrimination laws were broken when Blanc and soccer federation colleagues discussed whether quotas should be introduced to curb training academy access for young French players with dual nationality, many of them black and Arab.

Liverpool have been linked with Luis Suarez of Ajax for some time now and a deal did appear very close, however the clubs cannot agree a fee and it is now being reported that Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool manager, has set his sites on 26 year old Paris St Germain striker Guillaume Hoarau.
