Barcelona's barren draw at home against Sevilla on Saturday seems to be drawing more controversy
as the days gone on. Latest news now emerging is that midfielder Cesc Fabregas racially abused
Sevilla's Malian striker Freddy Kanoute.
Apparently this happened after the Catalans were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of the
game.
Call it a sentimental pick if you like, but it was tough to give this week's SBI MLS Player of
the Week award to anybody but Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller.
Not only did Keller help draw a crowd of more than 64,000 to CenturyLink Field to see the final
regular season home game of his illustrious career, but the 42-year-old goalkeeper made a plethora
of clutch saves with his Seattle Sounders trailing San Jose.
The Seattle Sounders FC won its third consecutive U.S. Open Cup with a 2-0 win over the Chicago
Fire at CenturyLink Field on Tuesday night. Freddy Montero broke the 0-0 deadlock in the 78th
minute when he slid the ball past Chicago goalie Sean Johnson after a corner kick scramble. With
Chicago deperately seeking a [.
Seattle Sounders made history by becoming only the third team in American soccer history to win
the Lemar Hunt US Open Cup three times in a row. Following wins in 2009 and 2010, this year's
competition was secured with a 2-0 victory over the Chicago Fire in front of a healthy 35,615 crowd
at the Sounders' CenturyLink Field Stadium.
The Seattle Sounders won their third consecutive US Open Cup and were the first MLS team to do so.
The Sounders defeated the Chicago Fire by a score of 2-0 but don't let the scoreline fool you, the
game was competitive and entertaining. The Fire were looking to become on the third team in history
of the tournament to win the competition five times, they failed in that endeavor but not without a
valiant effort.
We've already named our 2011 NL MVP and 2011 NL Cy Young Award winner. Now, let's go young. Here
are the 2011 National League Rookie of the Year candidates and the winner.
3. Danny Espinosa, Washington Nationals
Danny Espinosa was great in the first half of the year. In fact, he earned a spot on the All-Star
team.
EA Sports appears to finally be taking MLS seriously, and teams like the Philadelphia Union have
benefited from the additional attention to detail that is seen in FIFA '12.

Hurricane Irene closed airports, flooded roads and rails, and generally made it impossible to
get aroun on the east coast.
Despite this disrupting natural disaster, it will be hard for MLS's Eastern Conference teams to
argue that the storm was the reason they didn't show up on Saturday night.
I forgot to mention this piece from The Shin Guardian the other day. Looks like Baby Bradley is in
that weird European wilderness/limbo period that hit Jozy & Freddy. Shame that. The Free Michael
Bradley Movement starts now!
A pair of PK's leaves Philly and Dallas with a point apiece at Freddy's big debut.

The Beautiful Game series explores how soccer makes a difference around the
globe.
Been a very emotional week here at TSG and we are tardy in following up on our The Beautiful
Game series.
Good news this month....the super touching Freddy Fund is about to break ground on their field
that story.
During an afternoon conference call with the media on Tuesday, Major League Soccer's Vice
President of Competition and Player Relations announced a significant change to the league's
Designated Player rule. The call was attended by various print, online and broadcast media
outlets and was hosted by Dan Courtemanche, the league's Senior Vice President of Marketing and
Communications.
Photo Credit: Drew HallowellIf there were two people that made the Major League Soccer
needle move for non-soccer fans and the casual ones, it was David Beckham and the child-prodigy,
Freddy Adu. Problem is... over the years both have been incredibly disappointing, and dare we say,
busts.
Until now.
- Jason Davis A little bonus American Soccer Show action for you. After getting together with Jared
to chat with Brian Straus of The Sporting News, we decided it was a good idea to put out a bonus
episode rather than hold on to it over the weekend. In here is a lot of great stuff from Brian on
Klinsmann's debut, the new feeling around the team , Freddy to Philly, and more.
The P2010 Index tracks every performance of every player who suits up for the National Team
during the 2014 World Cup cycle, using match ratings from the country's top soccer writers. The
Index factors in recent form, strength of opponent, match type, and location, making it something
like Power Rankings for the USMNT.
Seattle should be considered favorites to get to the group stage. San Francisco may feature a
midfield that includes former Panamanian national team stalwart Manuel Torres in the engine room
and current international Eybir Bonaga providing the creativity underneath burly former Colorado
Rapids target man Roberto Brown, but their defense is extremely young aside from Colombian Freddy
Arizala.
A Drogba joined a Malouda today at Dijon, just not the ones we're familiar with.
Not these two
Dijon, who will compete in France's top flight for the first time in the club's history this
season, announced the signing of Freddy Drogba on Wednesday. Freddy is, of course, the younger
brother of The Mighty One.
Colombia has a thing for disappointing when you are expecting something from them. In this
tournament they had been great, winning their group ahead of Argentina, and seemingly with some of
their players, such as Freddy Guarín and Radamel Falcao, in great shape. On the other hand, Perú
had only ended third in its group, working hard, but without impressing.
The Timbers limped into the derby on a six match winless slide while the Sounders came in red hot
unbeaten in seven.
Portland's Strategy
For the second straight match, Kenny Cooper was left on the bench. John Spencer elected to play
4-1-4-1 to congest the midfield. Marcelin was brought on and played in a defensive midfield role
for Portland.
What an abominable game to watch. Though the US held the advantage for long stretches, Panama
probably looked a touch more dangerous when they did come forward. Both sides, however, largely
negated each other to make for some terribly dull viewing. The referee, not content to let 30
seconds pass without tooting on his whistle, only made things worse by killing any semblance of
flow.
- Jason Davis If only soccer had a 007. Jared and I hit just three topics this week, topics that
require a significant investment of time an energy to cover properly. First up, after we cover my
superhuman ability to avoid getting a nickname, is Bob Bradley's Gold Cup roster. It wasn't
necessarily what we expected from Bob, so Jared and I go down the full list giving our thumbs up or
down on every choice.
Chuck and Jack in happier times (from Chuck's blog) - Jason Davis This site has yet to address the
USMNT roster for the Gold Cup, and Bob Bradley certainly gave us plenty to talk about. Freddy
returns. Fascinating. But Bradley for his picks and framing this as this
all-guns-blazing-tournament (he'll either lay waste and win the title or go down giving us all the
middle finger) will have to wait.
Here is the full roster for the USA team that will play a friendly against Spain on Jun 4 and then
get right in to the Gold Cup group stage on Jun 7 in Detroit against Canada.

- Dax McCarty – DC's captain had the pressure put onto him by Branko Boskovic...that is
until his injury. Now the responsibility of manning the midfield and driving the offense falls
squarely onto McCarty's shoulders. With United's recent struggles and all the talk of this game
being "vital" its likely we'll see a high work rate from Dax.
Dave Clark, of SB Nation's Seattle Sounder blog Sounder at Heart, and
I exchanged three questions a piece (plus some bonuses at the end) ahead of tomorrow's Philadelphia
Union-Sounders match at PPL Park.
SK: With the injuries and transfers off the team (like Blaise Nfuko),
how have the Sounders found offensive rhythm so far this season?

Over the last day or two, I have been alluding to the latest of my brilliant ideas. The beauty
about this one is that I have unearthed not only the cause of our troubles but also the solution.
The other day Mike talked about Eto on RA's excellent post about Wengerball, and between them, I
thought they were going to steal my thunder.
