This weekend will make and break the careers of some coaches and players. The European play-offs
which will begin on Saturday the 14th November and conclude on the following Wednesday, will
definitely be a must win for the likes of France, Portugal and Russia.
A world cup without the reigning world player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo is simply
unimaginable.

off matches to decide the final four European teams that will make it to the 2010 World Cup Finals

Overshadowed by Real Madrid's new "Galacticos" circa 2001 and Man City aka money city's lavish
spending spree a la Chelsea 2004, perennial French heavyweights Lyon - under the cover of the
fanfare surrounding Barcelona's trade by barter plus 40m Euros swap deal for Ibrahimovich and the
transfer saga starring Frank Ribery nom de plume "World's most wanted player" – shelled out an
astonishing 70m Euros on new players this summer in an attempt to strengthen and regain its footing
domestically, and to a lesser extent, reassert its "tag" as the Champions league's darkest
horse.

Werder took a point from Alianz Arena (1:1) and if we are to judge from the play, the visitors
deserved to take three points. 69 000 people at the sold-out stadium in Munich saw German
international, Turkish-born Mehmet Ozil open the score minutes before the break. Mario Gomez was
the one to level the score 73 minutes into the game with the assistance of Phillip Lahm.

Never one to keep his mouth shut. Former Bayern Munich 'keeper Oliver Kahn has not let retirement
diminish his ability to let his stong opinions be known to all who bother to listen.
Kahn made feelings clear yesterday, that in his opinion much-coveted winger Franck Ribery is a
disruptive influence on Bayern and ‘behaves like a diva'.

Remember Michel Platini? Here he is at his prime. EURO 1984 in France.
via Box Office Football
Platini scored 9 goals in 5 matches in this tournament. I guess counting him as one of the best
players in the history of football should be pretty obvious. I really see something similar in the
way Frank Ribery plays today and Michel Platini played back in the '80.

Yeah, ok, let's just assume that Arsenal are going to bid £40m, which, according to Bayern
manager Uli Hoeness, is £60m short of his valuation and would get us just a leg.

This Confederations Cup is good isn't it? Well, it's not actually that great
but it will do until the proper football arrives. Italy's unlikely exit has been the highlight so
far without a doubt.
Italy have the look of an aging team and with little in the way of flair coming through the
ranks and they definitely look a side to oppose at next summer's World Cup despite the bookies
still making them 14/1 shots.

Bad news if you're a 26 year old top class footballer, approaching the peak of your career and
still trying to catch Sir Alex Ferguson's eye.
Because today, Man Utd have announced they will only be signing players for large transfer fees who
are 25 and under. The policy at Old Trafford is that the club will have a strict age-before-ability
approach in which they will sign players in big-money deals only if they will retain a significant
resale value some years after signing a five or six-year contract.

As C. Ronaldo prepares to depart for dreamy Madrid, Manchester United will have around £80
million from the transfer - some of this money may be used to pay off debts, or for wages, but most
of it, should be used on finding a player to replace Ronaldo.
Strong candidates are Antonio Valencia, Frank Ribery, David Silva, Sergio "Kun" Aguero but the
one that sticks out with optimism is the prospect of Man Utd purchasing Lyon's forward
Karim Benzema.

The likely departure of Cristiano Ronaldo is sure to leave a huge gap in the Manchester United
team, but that gap can always be filled with the £80m in exchange for Ronaldo. Who will the Red

Last summer, we heard numerous reports that Ronaldo was to move to Madrid. A deal was in place.
It was definite. It was going to happen next week. But then, there was some delay; and the deal
would go through the week after that. It never did. No matter for the Spanish press, as they
continued to rinse and repeat the story.

Manchester United have accepted a world record transfer bid of £80m from Real Madrid for
Cristiano Ronaldo.
The decision was taken after Cristiano Ronaldo again requested the move and after discussion
with Jorge Mendes, the player's agent. With Real Madrid making an unconditional offer of £80m (it
remains to be seen if this will amount will be paid all upfront through the bank loan Real Madrid
have secured to fund the Ronaldo transfer or it will be paid in stages), Manchester United have
agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the World Player of the Year.

- Gooch's agent denies a move to newly-promoted Birmingham. I wonder when that final decision
