Any list of soccer meccas in the United States would have to include Nevada Smith's. The bar, located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, has bringing in the soccer faithful of New York since 1994. Today, on any given weekend day, the bar shows games from morning till night.

MONTREAL, QC – United Soccer Leagues announced Thursday at the USL First Division Championship Series media banquet the winners of the Defender of the Year, Coach of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards. Portland's Gavin Wilkinson was named the USL-1 Coach of the Year with Puerto Rico's Cristian Arrieta earning the Most Valuable Player and Defender of the Year honors.

Growing up playing soccer in the United States is both a blessing and a curse. Most of us became fans of the most popular sport in the entire world, yet in the United States the sport has a third tier status that receives only a fraction of coverage and attention of the major sports in the US. Here in the US, we've had a huge increase in easy-access to Champions League Football to start this season. The channel that first brought us the English Football we now enjoy, in the late 90s I believe, Fox Sports World/Fox Soccer Channel/FSC, has now taken over Champions League coverage from ESPN, who tended to have shockingly poor and limited coverage. Long before the Premier League debuted on August 15, 1992, top flight English football was available on US television. It was nothing compared to today's offering where practically every weekend game is available to watch. But it's been consistently available, in one form or another, to US viewers since the early 1990s.
