With NBC Sports Network announcing their Premier League coverage plans for next season, the end is near for FOX Soccer.

Next season will see the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, CONCACAF Champion's League and the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup tournaments shown on the new FOX Sports 1.

Depending on your allegiances, the last day for FOX Soccer as a network is either (a) May 19, when the 2012-13 Premier League season (and FOX Soccer's rights to show the EPL) come to an end, (b) August 17, when FOX Sports 1 launches or (c) September 2, when FOX Soccer becomes FXX.

The Champions League returns Tuesday and there is a story overshadowing the games

FOX's decision to throw Gus Johnson into the deep end next week with the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Manchester United sends a strong message to its hardcore soccer base who have been watching the Premier League on FOX Soccer for 15 consecutive years — we don't care about you anymore.

Well, that was kind of a rough start to things yesterday. The U.S. briefly, ever so briefly, had victory in its sights before conceding an equalizing goal and, as the game neared its end, a game-winner to Honduras. And yes I know, it is hard to win on the road in CONCACAF and it is too soon to panic, but doesn't it hurt a little to be the only team that lost yesterday?

So the tortuous interlull is finished. Finally. It feels like I haven't watched any football other than the Australian A-League in years, and I am desperate to see some players who can complete a simple pass under pressure, let alone without pressure. So I'll try to get straight into it.

Its been three months Fox unveiled Gus Johnson as its voice of soccer and it has come with mixed reviews. Some say he is ok, while other say he is terrible. I think that I sit somewhere in the middle between disaster and good start.

Here is my question, is the issue with Gus Johnson tied to the fact that most American soccer fans are Euro Snobs and I include my self in that.

Tigre's refusal to play the second half of the Copa Sudamericana final's second leg after accusing police of pointing a gun at their goalkeeper and attacking them in the dressing room during halftime resulted in Sao Paulo being awarded the trophy. With Sao Paulo leading 2-0 at home, there was a scuffle at the end of the first half in which the police intervened (video below).
