Development Academy alumni Villyan Bijev was a Cal Odyssey player before he signed for
Liverpool.
Villyan Bijev was a part of the Under-20 MNT camp that met in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., from Jan.
2-9. The former Cal Odyssey forward signed with Liverpool over the summer and is spending the
2011-12 season on loan with Fortuna Dusseldorf while he works to secure his British work
permit.

Liverpool has signed young American striker Villyan Bijev from US side California Odyssey.
After impressing on a trial period at Melwood, scoring five goals in two games for the Reds in
July, the youngster has now signed a three-year deal with the club.
The 18-year-old netted over 20 goals for his side at under-16 level, averaging a goal a game and
was voted into the national starting XI at the under-18 rank.
A few Americans made moves in Europe ahead of the close of the summer transfer window, but some
of the bigger names being tossed around the rumor mill stayed put.
The major move to Arsenal never materialized for Clint Dempsey, who remains at Fulham. Jermaine
Jones is still out of favor at Schalke.
After signing with Liverpool FC this past summer, US Under-18 forward Villyan Bijev is headed to 2.
Bundesliga club Fortuna Dusseldorf for the remainder of the season on loan.
Early in the summer it seemed as though Ngog would head to Sunderland as part of the Jordan
Henderson deal, and even after that move fell through there never seemed any doubt he would find
his way out of Liverpool when the window was said and done. More recently, it was believed a
successful move to Bolton hinged only on Liverpool's ability to acquire a more seasoned backup
striker who wouldn't need the games the young Frenchman does to further develop.
