A number of players who were with MLS clubs last season though are currently still without teams. Last heard, Emmanuel Appiah was with the New England Revolution still, although he did not appear in their preseason game today against Sporting KC.

With the roster moves today by Kansas City, the list of former players looks set to grow this offseason. I think a couple of the players that didn't have their options picked up will find their way back onto an MLS team come 2017, but for the majority of them, I think the lower leagues in the US or potentially abroad is the place where most of them will end up if they want to continue to play.

Former Kansas City wingback, Korede Aiyegbusi and his current club, AFC United just missed out on winning the Superettan, the Swedish second division. On the final match day of the season, AFC defeated third place Halmstad 2-0 to finish with 61 points, tied with first place Sirius. Unfortunately for Aiyegbusi and AFC, they finished second place on goal difference, +31 to +30.

Most of the summer leagues are starting to wrap up their seasons, while European leagues are going strong. The indoor season is just now kicking off for other teams in the US though, with the MASL season kicking off this past weekend. All three former Kansas City players had games, and all three got wins with Jamar Beasley and Mike Jones both playing in wins for Cedar Rapids and Dallas respectively.

This year 24 teams will compete in the tournament and it's brought out some new and unlikely teams qualifying like Iceland and Albania. It has also seen Hungary qualify for their first major championship since the 1986 World Cup and their first Euros since 1972.

Jordi Quintilla's search for a new club is over, this past week the former Kansas City midfielder signed a deal with NASL side Puerto Rico FC. The NASL side will compete in their first full season in the NASL after competing in just the Fall Season in 2016. Quintilla's first taste of club soccer since being waived by Sporting KC though will come in international competition as Puerto Rico FC will host their group in the CFU Club Championships.

Toni Dovale, who had helped Leganes earn promotion to La Liga this season hasn't played a league game since the club promoted and is now searching for a new club. There are reports he could return to Lugo, the club he joined immediately after leaving Sporting KC after the 2014 season.

Aurelien Collin turned down offers from Europe, and is instead returning to the New York Red Bulls for the 2017 season. Collin spent most of the 2016 season with the Red Bulls after being traded by Orlando City early in the season.

Myers departs Kansas City having appeared almost 150 times in league play for Sporting, playing over 10,000 minutes, scoring two league goals (both coincidentally against the Portland Timbers).

Reports out of Minnesota are reporting that Saad is currently in negotiations with expansion side Minnesota United to return to the league with the club. Saad has spent the last two years in Thailand, playing last season with Pattaya United where he scored nine goals in 28 league appearances for the club.

Omar Bravo made his NASL debut this past week for the Carolina Railhawks after recently signing with the club. Bravo started and played the full 90 scoring a goal in the 78th minute to temporarily put the Railhawks up 3-2 before Miami FC equalized shortly after in their 3-3 draw.

Elsewhere this week, Soony Saad got back on the scoring sheet in a big way, scoring a hattick in Pattaya United's 3-2 win over BBCU.

Michael Thomas returned to his home town of Kansas City this past week with his Oklahoma City Energy team to take on the Swope Park Rangers. In his return to Kansas City, the Overland Park native scored a goal to help the Energy to a 3-1 win over the Rangers, their seventh loss of the season. It was the second goal in as many games for Thomas who also scored in his club's US Open Cup loss to Dallas this past week.

One week after Jack Jewsbury announced he would be retiring at the end of the season, 11 year veteran, Tyson Wahl also announced that he would be retiring when the current MLS season ended. Wahl was drafted by the Wizards back in 2006 and was with the club for three years, finally starting to break into the lineup in 2008 when he split time as a starter with Aaron Hohlbein next to Jimmy Conrad.

Another long time MLS player is hanging up their cleats at the end of the season, former Kansas City Wizards' midfielder, Jack Jewsbury announced this past week that this year would be his final year in MLS. Jewsbury announced that he would retire at the end of the season at Portland's Stand Together Banquet on Sunday, it will bring to an end a career that has seen the 35 year old play 14 seasons in MLS, his first eight were in Kansas City where he's on the club's top 10 list in terms of starts, appearances, and minutes played.

It hasn't been an extremely productive move for Oriol Rosell since he left Kansas City for Sporting Portugal.
