"Jossys Giants" visit Bobby Charlton and Willie McFaul at St James' Park 1985. Aye Bobby Charlton,
not Jackie Charlton who had left the club as manager in the huff over player sales and such before
McFaul stepped in and faced the same old problem. After introducing the Jossy's lads to McFaul the
ex Northern [.
"Going Up" "Northern Life" special 1984. 30 minute Tyne Tees Television special programme from
1984, where David Burton reviews Newcastle United's 1983-4 promotion season. Featuring Arthur Cox,
Kevin Keegan, and some classic Keegan, Waddle and Beardsley goals from the days when the club had a
front three that I'm sure quite a few Toon [.
Former Liverpool striker Nicolas Anelka left Chelsea for Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua
in January, and for a brief period prior to signing, the Frenchman was dubiously linked with an
improbable return to Anfield. Anelka could've also joined Carlo Ancelotti at Paris St Germain, but
as he now reveals, the move held no interest for him.
With Glen Johnson ahead of him in the Anfield pecking order, Martin Kelly has been warming the
bench more often than not this season, which is a shame because he rarely lets Liverpool down when
he plays. As a result of Jose Enrique's injury, Kelly got his chance against Spurs last night, and
he was arguably one of the best players on the pitch.
After the recent defeat at Bolton, many fans were surprised by Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish's
ferocious public attack on his players, but Jamie Redknapp - who was signed by Dalglish during his
first spell in charge at the club - believes the public rebuke was the right tactic to employ, and
he feels it will lay a positive foundation for the rest of the season.
Ex-Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has been targeted by racist morons on twitter after moving from
Lazio to QPR. Cisse is the latest in a long-line of players to be bombarded with racist abuse on
Twitter, a site that does absolutely nothing proactive to stop anonymous idiots from engaging in
all kinds of online bullying and abuse.
Liverpool's Raheem Sterling is building up a very positive reputation in the club's youth set-up,
with Ian Rush recently describing him as 'very similar to Michael Owen'. Former Liverpool
midfielder Jamie Redknapp is also a big fan of youngster, and hopes that he'll get a chance in the
first team sooner rather than later.
Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has a knack of scoring debut goals, and he's off to a flying
start at his new club QPR with an excellent first-half goal against Aston Villa.Cisse - aka 'Lord
of the Manor of Frodsham', the title he held when he played for Liverpool - scored 24 goals in 79
appearances during his time at Anfield.
Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has slammed the small minority of fans who called for Kenny
Dalglish's head after the recent 3-1 home defeat to Bolton. In his column for The People, Collymore
- who was on the bench when Liverpool beat Dalglish's Newcastle team 4-3 in 1997 - argued: "It was
strange to hear Kenny getting flak from a section of fans in the wake of that defeat at Bolton last
During his four years in charge at Anfield, Roy Evans produced one of the most exciting and
entertaining Liverpool teams of the last thirty years. With the likes of Robbie Fowler and Steve
McManaman playing alongside club legends John Barnes and Ian Rush, it was pure joy being a fan in
the mid-1990s.
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has revealed that former Liverpool striker Michael Owen was
one of his great footballing inspirations when With 14 goals and 4 assists in 21 games this season,
Aguero is proving to be one of the best strikers in the league, and in a recent interview, the
Argentine spoke of his admiration for Owen: "I'm not so much a fan of Liverpool, but one of the
players
Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has launched a scathing attack on the foreign players in
English football, arguing that they brought the 'curse' of diving into the English game.In his
column weekly column for The People, Collymore attacked Man City Manager Roberto Mancini's
'pathetic card-waving antics', and insisted that 'the Italian needs to be stopped before this nasty
disease begins
Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has called on Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini to
stop trying to influence referees by waving imaginary cards on the touchline. In recent weeks,
Mancini has been caught on camera several times exhorting the referee to take action by waving the
imaginary red card.
Liverpool face a tough game against Bolton on Saturday, and one of the players likely to start the
game for the Trotters is former striker David N'gog. Pepe Reina believes the Bolton game is a
'must-win' for Kenny Dalglish's team, and he's identified N'gog as a potential threat.In an
interview with the official Liverpool site, Reina was full of praise for his old team-mate:"He is a
great player.
In the last month, Paul Scholes and Thierry Henry have made goalscoring returns for Manchester
United and Arsenal respectively, and clearly inspired by their exploits, 40-year old former
Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has made the bold claim that he is fit enough to come out
retirement and do the business at the highest level.
Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing have struggled to make any consistent creative impact in the
league this season, and against Stoke City yesterday, it was the same old story: lots of huffing
and puffing, but no end product. After watching the game, former Liverpool defender Jason McAteer
admitted that frustration over the pair's ineffective performances is growing.
Once again the tabloid media have attempted to test our credulity, this time with the risible idea
that Liverpool would be willing to dispose of Andy Carroll for a fraction of the £35 million they
paid for him just one year ago, and to Newcastle United of all clubs. Firstly the figure of £20
million [.
Since arriving at Liverpool in 2006, Fabio Aurelio has spent an incredible 23 months on the
sidelines recovering from injury, which makes him the most injured player in the club's history.
After a frustrating spell on the sidelines this season, the Brazilian made his return in the 5-1
victory at Oldham.
Andy Carroll signed for Liverpool one year ago today, and it's fair to say that the big man has
still not settled in at Anfield. The question is, will he ever do the business for Liverpool? Stan
Collymore doesn't think so, and believes that the best way forward would be for Carroll to return
to Newcastle.
Love him or loathe him, there is still a question which has not been answered about Andy Carroll, a
question which continues to split opinion amongst United fans to this day. Ahead of the imminent
game against Liverpool at Anfield, it might be timely to examine this question one more time. The
question when [.
Luis Suarez has been at Anfield for almost a year now, and it's an understatement to say that the
Uruguayan is idolised by Liverpool fans. A year is (arguably) enough time to assess a player's true
impact on a club, so how does Suarez compare to other Liverpool strikers of the past? In the first
comparison of this new series, I'll compare Suarez's first-year impact at Liverpool with former
Former Liverpool defender Jason McAteer has jumped to the defence of Stewart Downing after the
winger failed to score or create a goal in yet another game.Downing has not gone 19 games without
hitting the back of the net or assisting; That's an incredible 28 hours of football without a
specific creative contribution to the team.
Hot on the heels of Liverpool legend Jan Molby claiming Andy Carrol would never make it Anfield,
former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has argued that the former Newcastle man is a 'waste of
money'. In his weekly column for The People, Collymore - who formed a lethal partnership with
Robbie Fowler between 1995 and 1997 - expressed some sympathy for the struggling striker, but
ultimately
Wolfsburg manager Felix Magath has launched an extraordinarily unprofessional public attack on
former Liverpool defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos. In an interview with German newspaper Wolfsburger
Allgemeine Zeitung, Magath - who won the European Cup with Hamburg in 1983 - revealed that he was
unhappy with the standard of the Greek centre-back's performances since he joined the German club
the summer.
Former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel has been sacked by Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin over an
ongoing 'lying' row with the club's Sports Director Michael Preetz.A war-of-words played out in the
German media on Sunday with both Babbel and Preetz accusing each other of lying over aspects of the
former defender's new contract.
Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger have proved to be a superb defensive partnership for Liverpool over
the last month, and their excellent performances have helped the club achieve the best defensive
record in the league.Liverpool legend John Aldridge recently described Skrtel as an 'accident
waiting to happen', but in his weekly column for the Liverpool Echo, the former striker seemed to
have
It has been eleven years since former defender Dominic Matteo left Anfield, and to this day, he
still feels sadness over the way Gerard Houllier 'got rid' of him. The arrival of Christian Ziege
in 2000 was the beginning of the end for Matteo's Liverpool career; the Scot saw his first-team
chances severely restricted, and he left for Leeds soon after.
Over the last week, (fabricated) rumours have surfaced regarding the possibility of Nicolas Anelka
returning to Liverpool in the new year. On his website a few days ago, Anelka wrote: "I Know Where
I'll Be on 2 January", and it now seems like the identity of his next club has been revealed.
Apart from Kenny Dalglish's first spell in charge at Anfield, the Roy Evans era is the happiest
I've ever been as a Liverpool fan. From 1994 to 1998, Liverpool played fantastic, entertaining
football, and were arguably the most exciting team in the country. Indeed, if it wasn't for a
suspect defence, Evans' team could've (and should've) won the league title in 1996 or 1997.
Former Liverpool defender Mark Wright has lambasted referee Mark Friend over his 'embarrassing'
decision to send off Jay Spearing against Fulham last night.
Wright, who was commentating on the game for LFC TV, was enraged by the sending off:
"It's becoming a non-contact sport.
Liverpool left-backs from past and present come face to face at Craven Cottage tonight, and whilst
John Arne Riise and Jose Enrique are both excellent players in their own right, who would you
choose at left back for Liverpool if you had to make a choice?
Enrique has been a success story at Anfield so far this season; unlike others, he settled in five
minutes after starting his first game for the club, and he's produced high quality performances
ever since.
John Arne Riise was a fantastic player for Liverpool during his 7-year spell at the club, and fans
will always remember the brilliant goals he scored, especially 'that' unstoppable free-kick against
Man United in 2001. Tonight, Riise face his old club for the first time since he left Anfield, and
it's clear he still holds ol in very high rLiverpoegard.
Well, Joey Barton did promise on Twitta that he would "tell all when the time was right" and he's
finally kept his word. Speaking in a long audio podcast interview for the Queen's Park Ranger's
'blog "Open All R's," he finally lifted the lid on his time at Newcastle United and his strained
relationship with [.
Liverpool's first goal against Chelsea last night was a masterpiece of counter-attacking football,
as was Maxi's goal at Stamford Bridge in the league last week, and former Liverpool defender Jason
McAteer believes that his old team is the best counter-attacking side in the country. Is he right?
Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva was the clear man of the match against Manchester City on Sunday,
and former Liverpool players are lining up to acknowledge his increasing influence on the team.
I wrote last week about how impressive Lucas's passing had become over the last couple of years,
and against Man City it was more of the same: quick, incisive, positive passing, and it was a joy
to watch.
Despite a fantastic second-half performance, Liverpool dropped another two points at home against
Man City on Sunday, and former defender Jason McAteer has expressed his disappointment over
Liverpool's continued failure to be more clinical in front of goal.
McAteer, who was commentating on the game for LFC TV, called Liverpool's second half performance
'fantastic', but was clearly frustrated at another home draw:
"I think it's Roberto Mancini who's going to be the happier manager.
The Montreal Impact selected Bobby Burling in the expansion draft yesterday. Head coach Jesse
Marsch played with Burling on Chivas USA from 2007 to 2009. Marsch played as a defensive midfielder
and Burling played as a defender while on Chivas USA. As such, Marsch was happy to select Burling
during the expansion draft.
Former Liverpool defender Mark Wright believes Kenny Dalglish's team was on a 'different level to
Chelsea' at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, and her reserved special praise for the performance of
Denmark defender Daniel Agger.
Wright, who tasted victory against Chelsea several times during his 210 game Liverpool career,
enthused:
"I've never been a massive fan of Agger's defending, but I thought he did very well today, and I
didn't feel that Chelsea really threatened [Liverpool's defence] that much".
Former Liverpool Striker Stan Collymore has launched a scathing attack on Sepp Blatter in response
to the FIFA President's cretinous comments about racism in football.
Blatter recently argued that there was 'no racism in football', and suggested that even if there
was, it could be dealt with by players 'shaking hands' at the end of the game.
A few days after Newcastle United's already despised Managing Director, Derek Llambias, announced
the club's corporate renaming of the club's traditional home as "The Sports Direct Arena", it would
be hard to imagine his or Mike Ashley's reputation sinking any lower. However all that has changed
now after one simple drunken rant in a bar [.
