A few poems from the weekend, kinda. Starting with rugby and that and ending with that Dutch guy
who runs a lot... Rugby Wigan and Hull play football, In a cities were they generally chase eggs.

"Carling or Becks? Carling...or Becks? Budweiser!"
FIFA, eh? Watching over us all with ever-loving grace. Fighting the good fight. Tackling the
real issues that threaten to undermine our beloved game with feverish haste and ruthless
efficiency.
An anaemic economy, nostalgic fans and onerous planning laws are all proving tough obstacles for
soccer clubs hoping to increase income with new state-of-the-art stadiums. A trio of London-based
Premier League clubs formed more than 100 years ago - Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Queens Park
Rangers - are among those with plans for new homes.
Louder Than BombsLegia Warsaw 0-0 Cracovia (10:12:11)During June of next year the streets of the Polish capital will be pounding with football fans
ready to embrace Euro 2012. The Polish FA will ensure that there are ladies dressed in traditional
Polish folk costumes stood on every corner, and Uefa will insist that those fans drink only
Coca-Cola, Castrol or Carlsberg and that no food should exist in Warsaw outside of McDonalds.
To Motherwell and part two of the great SPL Friday night football experiment.
Pity poor Motherwell. If you want to try something (sort of) new and attract the punters with cheap
tickets it's probably essential that you get ninety minutes played.
Unfortunately this Friday night project was abbreviated.
Former judge tells Hillsborough families to drop 'conspiracy theories'
• Sir Oliver Popplewell says families should move on • Says Bradford disaster families
showed 'quiet dignity' A retired judge has sparked fury by calling on the Hillsborough families to
drop their "conspiracy theories" and behave more like the relatives of victims of the Bradford City
stadium disaster.
A former judge has controversially called on the Liverpool families involved in the Hillsborough
disaster to behave more like the relatives of victims of the Bradford City stadium disaster.
In an ill-advised letter to The Times, Sir Oliver Popplewell, who chaired the public inquiry into
the 1985 fire at the Valley Parade stadium that killed 56 people, argued:
"The citizens of Bradford behaved with quiet dignity and great courage.
Last Wednesday Fenerbache players found themselves playing in front of 41,000 fans, mostly girls
and some children, something sure they never imagined in their lives. Yes, no adult men were in
stadium at all !!!!!
How it happened?
I thought I had read somewhere that FIFA required all venues hosting World Cup Qualifiers to be
sterile for a period of was it 14 days ahead of the game? By sterile I imagine they mean mobs of
white clad nurses swabbing down all the cutlery while big burly geezers in face masks sweep the
urinals of their amassed shit and piss.
And so transfer deadline day came and went.
Celtic got a left back but not the nameless big name who cropped up in countless anonymous
rumours.
Rangers did nothing except turn down a big bid from a nameless big club in an anonymous rumour that
may or may not have come from someone who really should have scored in a cup final all those years
ago.

Yet another poor soul who failed to realise that the 'anonomity of the crowd' rule doesn't
really apply to football stadiums jammed with television cameras...
Eeew.

Although they may not dwell on it, most citizens of the United States and Europe are familiar with
the violence in Mexico connected to the drug trade. This violence has permeated much of everyday
life in Mexico, especially in the big cities and along the borders. The one refuge, the one safe
place to get away from the senseless bloodshed in Mexico has been the football stadiums, but today
even that safety was shattered as a firefight erupted outside of the Territorio Santos Modelo in
Torreon, Mexico, bringing a scary and abrupt end to the Santos - Morelia match.

Though football stadiums aren't the safest places on earth, there are certain things one would
assume could be stricken from worry would be "pelted with human excrement". One would assume,
anyway.
Turns out that wasn't the case in Gelsenkirchen this weekend, where Schalke fans, busy watching
their team demolish Koln 5-1, were forced to do so while getting a bodily waste shower.
The epicenter of the riot fast spreading through London was but less than a mile away from White
Hart and led to the Spurs ticketing office being looted. It was where Mark Duggan, a Tottenham
resident was shot dead by the police which led to peaceful protests turning violent. The riots have
spread to most parts of NE London and now to Brixton in the south.
Harrison, NJ - drink it in.
IN THE TUNNEL:A fine night at one of North America's finest football stadiums. Despite the excitement of playing
in one of the world's greatest cities (well, it's bombed out post-apocalyptic suburb at least) TFC
has rarely had a good time in the Big Apple's shadow.
When Major League Soccer launched, its marketing seemed to have advertisement ADD. Football
stadiums, family marketing, no-tie shootouts unlike anyone else in FIFA and ultimately an
unreliable target audience. In its inaugural 1996 year, several of the MLS teams shared stadiums
with their city's NFL counterparts.
The island of Penang has long been one of my favourite destinations in South East Asia. I just love
pottering round the streets of Georgetown, having Chicken Vindaloo at the Kashmir and getting
ratted at the Hong Kong Bar. Hell, I love it so much I even nurse my hangover by picking up the
local newspapers to find out how Liverpool and Chelsea are doing.
You gotta feel for football fans in Singapore. Despite there being plenty of them, most supporting
Manchester United, Liverpool or Chelsea, the country does nothing for them.
Take for example the cack handed way the demolition of the National Stadium was handled to make way
for a new Sports Hub, god they love that word, hub.
The Football Supporters' Federation has launched a petition – visit
www.fsf.org.uk/safestanding as part of our campaign for the introduction of safe standing areas in
the top two divisions in England and Wales. We know some of you might think that signing a petition
is a bit of a futile gesture, but the timing for the campaign is crucial.
What's wrong with conversation? Is it too 1990s? Do we know just communicate by sms, facebook or
twitter? The reason I ask is because last night at Tampines Stadium any conversation before the
game and at half time was impossible 'cos the announcer had cranked up some bloody shitty music
full blast, couldn't hear the geezer next to me.
Robert Fitzgerald (24) was handed a 12 week jail sentence and
a six month ban from football stadiums today after he entered the pitch and punched a Love Rival
in the face following their shock FA Cup win over Newcastle in January.
Vfl Kirchheim and HRBFC: 600 miles apart but so similar!
The football rivalry between England and Germany, especially on a national level, has a long
tradition. But what about every day football culture? How do the German and the English Non-League
compare?
