Sports Direct, Hillsborough and fan behaviour

Red Rants 21 August @ 01:46 AM EST

This has been a topic I've been meaning to touch upon for a long time but kept procrastinating till now. A report was up on the Guardian yesterday, where Sports Direct, a sports apparel business owned by businessman-cum-Newcastle owner (and and part-time clown in the local circus) Mike Ashley, was forced to apologise for printing shirts mocking the Hillsborough victims.

The Fat Man who made his fortune selling sub-standard sportswear in giant warehouse spaces peopled by the occasional minimum wage slave - no training, no hope - and who then lost it all again after steering Newcastle United to relegation, should step aside.
Now, we understand that there are requirements for businesses to be able to ride out a Depression. Click to continue reading...

Top 10: Shirt Sponsors

Sanford's Soccer Net 17 July @ 09:09 AM EST
It's not unknown for football shirt devotees to base their purchase entirely on a sponsor's logo. And why not? Sure, you can call them slaves to a corporate entity who are essentially paying for the privilege of advertising a product, but you can't deny that the guy waddling about town with a beer logo on his shirt, as well as the calorific excess thereof underneath the rapidly-stretching fabric is the essence of masculinity. What Football Shirts Are Hiding In Your Closet?

EPL Talk 04 July @ 09:00 AM EST

There's something beautiful about a football shirt. It's not just the fabric, how it looks on you or what it represents. To me, it means so much more. It's all about memories.

When you wear a new one for the first time, such as any of the new football shirts for the 2009-2010 Premier League season, it's all about the material and the identity of your club.

Manchester United Away Jersey For 09/10 Season Leaked

EPL Talk 04 July @ 07:00 AM EST

Is this the new Man United away jersey for the 2009-2010 season? It sure looks like it.

The leaked picture features a gray shirt with a blue V (or chevron, as the Brits like to say). Designed and manufactured by Nike, it features a similar design to Man United's new home kit.

The shirt colours are definitely a diversion from what United has done in the past, but if the colours represented in the picture above are true, I wonder what the Red Devils will think about wearing the sky blue colour of their cross-town brethren?

New third kit a bit of all white

Arsenal Insider 01 July @ 10:30 AM EST

ARSENAL in white we're not Tottenham! That's the argument from many Gooners today as the club unveiled the new third kit.

And with the shorts a kind of slate grey there is no doubt that the entire strip has more of N17 than N5 about it.

But it's an argument that is a little worn around the edges as we've played in white before.
