In recent years, Swedish clothing retailer H&M has made strides in growing its brand in the
United States, and it seems they've decided to take a major step in brand recognition by paying
$3.5 million to air a commercial during Sunday's Super Bowl. What better way to make a splash in
your first Super Bowl commercial than by having it star one of the world's most recognizable
football players, David Beckham?
Something has always flummoxed me in sports. It's the propensity of lesser informed fans and a
few media blowhards to stand on high, reeking of tough-minded and righteous superiority, and label
some professional athletes as "soft."
This is especially bothersome in American football.
Its been a while since I have posted anything remotely interesting so here is brief summary with
all things that are annoying me in football these days
Roberto Mancini
I have a lot of respect for Roberto for the following reasons;
1) He was a brilliant striker
2) He brought madcap Mario Balotelli to England
3) No matter what the weather or situation he looks so suave in that scarf and coat you just cant
help but admire his style (in a non homosexual way : but if you look at him that way thats no
problem)
However, his recent whinge that he would struggle to fill his subs bench for the Man Utd game was
simply laughable.
When I was in college studying for a biology degree, I had the fortune of playing on my school's
football team. Ever since then, I've been intensely fascinated with the interplay between, biology,
anatomy and how the game is played—all factors that go into determining victory and defeat.
2011 has gone past us and we all are looking forward to the new year, 2012 with hope. The past
year was something like a rollercoaster ride - the financial turbulence, a slew of nature's fury at
various parts of world, the fight for democracy at other parts all made it a wonderful ride.
Cassius Barton and the weirdest football players' baby names
Joey Barton has caused eye-rolling at the registrar's office by naming his baby son Cassius.
It's a tribute from the boxing fan to legend Muhammad Ali, who was born Cassius Clay, and hey it's
better than calling him Ashley, Nietschze, Cigar or McDonald.
Apparently, not one to be outdone by someone with slightly more skill on the ball, Cristiano
Ronaldo has decided to use the new Mercurial Vapor Superfly III shoes. The general idea behind the
shoe is that the patterns on the shoe will deceive defenders in their marking as many players are
taught to watch the feet rather than the ball when marking a player.
There are a number of people whose behavior in football probably shouldn't serve as a role model
to children. One of them is Jose Mourinho, since he's often busy behaving like a child. (You know
getting piggybacks and poking people in the eye.)
And yet here he is, getting his own cartoon to nurture our future, the children.

In the past and the present, football players have enjoyed a special place in a football fan's
life. People from all over the world take time out of their busy lives to watch them play or get a
glimpse of them in training.
Great weekend for the believers in young Australian football players, attacking players.
Bernie Ibini, Mustafa Amini, Demi Petratos, Mate Dugandzic just some of the young Aussies hitting
the net - and three of them are Under 20.
Laugh: Robbie Slater in his column on Sunday discussed how to beat the Roar - and he mentioned how
Sydney would miss THE PACE of Mark Bridge.
Panamanian football players have been able to make inroads in South American clubs in recent years.
Not just Colombia, which has been a natural destination for historical reasons, but also Southern
Cone countries such as Argentina or Chile. Yesterday it was reported that Chepo FC's midfielder
Aníbal Godoy will play for Argentina's Godoy Cruz on a loan deal that will run through the rest of
the Argentine domestic season.
Football's Greatest War Heroes - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
With Remembrance Sunday having just occurred a few days ago, we reflect on the men who gave
their lives to their countries as well as giving their all on the football pitch. Their bravery on
the field of play has been superseded by their courage and character on the field of battle even
though some of them had little to no military education.

Despite FIFA'S campaign to ensure fair play is maintained in the sport, the ugly face of
racism still rears itself over and over again. FIFA president Sepp Blatter who had earlier stated
that racism between players should be settled by a handshake, reiterated that his comments were
taken out of context.
Words have become rather a hot commodity in football of late, both the spoken word from those
participating in and the written word of those observing and opining on this rather silly game
where the players can't even use their hands. Whether it has been alleged racist taunts by
individual players or the complex matter of who pays what and where for the consumption of content
surrounding football, words have done some damage over the past few weeks.
As we read one editorial after another expressing outrage at Penn State's failure to respond to
complaints regarding Sandusky, and try to wrap our minds around the consequences of this "scandal,"
we should step back and remember that U.S. universities have a long history of failing victims of
sexual assault.
Follow the words with your finger, Darren There is a lot of high and mighty guff diatribed from
disillusioned fans about how stupid football players are, and how detached they are from fans in
our modern game. Credit therefore has to be given to Aberdeen's Darren Mackie for agreeing to be
interviewed by a local [.
How fortunate that this man was around to make essential repairs to Malaga CF goalkeeper Wilfredo
Caballero's Halloween mummy costume. Heaven knows what we would have been exposed to if he hadn't.
We've done our level best to avoid getting embroiled in any 'unpleasant controversies' this

(In)Famous Facial Hair in Football: Then and Now - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
It's something that's perhaps said almost as much in jest as it is in seriousness, but for some,
the mark of a true manly man is all in the facial hair.
If you subscribe to that notion, then you may also be among the population that feels that
football isn't what it used to be, with finesse, flair, and frailty pushing physicality in the
past, or at best compressed into several three-to-five minute Youtube compilations.

International football - players come and go pretty quickly.
Just five years ago, Cahill was a bench warmer for Hiddinks team in 2006 - he came on with
explosive impact and now just five years later his international career is less secure.
Joey Barton: Football players are treated too harshly
Joey Barton today claimed there would have been 'public executions' had the England football
team behaved like their rugby union counterparts at the World Cup.

Being rumored to be the next important player that could be leaving Arsenal after Cesc Fabregas
and Samir Nasri's departure, Dutch striker, Robin Van Persie, continues to show his commitment for
the Gunners by scoring a brace last weekend.
Van Persie's two goals against Sunderland gave the Gunners and important victory, which is
highly appreciated by his coach, Arsene Wenger, considering the fact that the Dutch international
simply the main man that kept the London outfit going this season.
Robin Van Persie is leaving Arsenal. No, wait he is staying. No, no, he is definitely leaving.
Sorry, staying. That's how confused you'll be if you peruse this morning's papers for news
pertaining to the Gunners; skipper RVP after his two.
The Daily Star AW says RVP is refusing to discuss a new contract despite the player insisting he
is committed to the club.

Will the same "core" get a runout on Tuesday?
First, some perspective.
The United States played a decidedly weak Honduran side on Saturday. Yes, Clint Dempsey was
great, even Brek Shea and Jozy Altidore.
A big step-up is still needed from those three and the US as a whole when they face off Tuesday
with CONMEBOL's Ecuador despite a terrible run of form by La Tri over the past few years.

Walter Payton is an icon in the football world. Before his death in 1999, Payton was one of the
most loved football players of all-time. After his death, the love has continued to pour.
However, a new book is claiming a darker side to Walter Payton. In "Sweetness: The Enigmatic
Life of Walter Payton", author Jeff Pearlman writes that Walter Payton talked about suicide often,
abused pain medication and had a dysfunctional family life.

Libya: Football in a time of rebellion is a post from: Just Football
By Mehdi Rahnama
The last thing a country will think about during a revolution, one might think, is its football.
In Libya though, the support of the national team towards the rebels has caused a
major setback to the Gaddafi camp.
