Sanford's Soccer Net 17 November @ 09:08 AM EST
The first rock was thrown with such force that it traveled through the bus, smashing windows on its way in and out, Michel Gaillaud, a French doctor, recalls. Panicked, he and the football players he treats dived for cover. "We were bombarded with stones," says Gaillaud. "People were screaming. We were lying on the floor. Click to continue reading...

World’s Most Polite (Brazilian) Footballer

SoccerLens 16 November @ 07:31 AM EST

36 year old Alexandre da Silva Mariano, a.k.a. Amaral, is not one player that you would expect to be the (unofficially) most polite footballer.

Previously playing in footballing danger zones such as Italy (Parma; AC Fiorentina) and Turkey (Besiktas), representing Brazil 31 times, and winning an Olympic Bronze medal (Atlanta 1996), nobody anticipated that the former grave digger would have written a thank you note to his most recent club, Perth Glory.

Goonerlicious football?

SoccerLens 06 November @ 04:57 AM EST

Eduardo's back heel onto Arshavin, who runs and takes the ball and finds the pass to Diaby, who sets himself up and scores.

That my friends was the goal of the night and the fourth for Arsenal against AZ Alkmaar. The football recently played by Arsenal is nothing short of phenomenal, offensively of course.

A Letter to Castrol

All Four One, and One Four All! 30 October @ 01:54 PM EST

"Tevez: Pippo! If both of us marry, a kid with my work rate and your goal rate would be born who would go onto become one of the finest strikers in the world. What do you think?

Pippo: But what if the reverse happens you fool?"

An excerpt from the book "As gay as it gets"

Dear officer concerned,

I can understand that this entire manufacturing of lubricants is a boring business.

Are Giggs And Neville Right About Footballers’ Salaries?

Republik Of Mancunia 15 October @ 03:00 AM EST

Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs have both surprisingly spoken out about the controversial issue of football players earning every penny of their astronomically large salaries.

When the starting salary for a nurse is £20k a year, a teacher is £21k a year and a police officer is £22k a year, it's hard to argue that John Terry deserves £160k a week!

Belgium Cross the Line with Fellaini Reaction

Premiership Talk Blog 14 October @ 10:55 AM EST

In yet another club versus country debate, Belgium have come down hard on midfielder Marouane Fellaini. Unlike most other club versus country dilemmas, though, Fellaini is coming under fire simply for choosing to receive long overdue surgery to get his wisdom teeth removed. Belgium, meanwhile, has reacted angrily to his decision as they are clamoring for the Everton player to be banned from club football this coming weekend.

The Most Perfect of Perfect Days!

Nedved's Notes 11 October @ 01:29 AM EST
If you are a Bath City fan then yesterday's meeting with Bishop's Cleeve was the most important match of the season. Football is a passionate game. It's one of it's greatest charms. I don't thin

For Girls Who Can't Do Football 14 September @ 12:46 PM EST
Football is a passionate game.
It's one of it's greatest charms.
I don't think anyone would dispute that analysis.
But where those feelings flare into aggression and violence, or the goading of players (including racist and homophobic chanting), that passion become problematic. Click to continue reading...

Adebayor, God, and karma; philosophy and football after a hammering.

10 Ways to Meet Football Players

SoccerLens 12 August @ 02:40 AM EST

As a young star-struck kid, like most of my peers, my unswerving ambition was to meet some of my heroes (all footballers needless to say), get an autograph... a photograph even, and become the envy of my football crazy mates.
