Today's Guardian offered a rare treat: A full copy of the much missed football weekly Roy of the
Rovers. I felt quite nostalgic going to the newsagent to buy it. Although, being frightfully middle
class, my comics were delivered so I never actually had to go to the shop for real when I was
younger.This was not, you understand, a new copy (that would be less fun, what with Roy's leg
amputation and

Lionel Messi today was announced as this year winner of France Football magazines
prestigious Ballon d'Or easily beating out runner-up and last years recipient Cristiano
Ronaldo.
Messi received 473 votes far ahead of Ronaldo who received 233.

Lionel Messi wins this years France Football magazines annual awarded to the best footballer of
the year and voted on by 96 journalist from across the globe. Messi beat out last years winner
Cristiano Ronaldo by a record margin of 240 points.
The 22 year old Messi is the 6th player from Barcelona to win the award and did so after helping
his team to win a treble last season.
