By Walter Broeckx As Tony recently wrote an article about some terrible grounds in the UK I must
say that one of my favourite things during the holidays is going to stadiums. I usually take a tour
when I can and so I have seen some fine stadiums in the world. Most grounds in Holland are [...]

EPL Talk 11 November @ 05:20 AM EST
After viewing photographs in The Guardian last week about the greatest number of league
grounds that can be seen on a single train trip in Great Britain, the feature got me thinking about
my life growing up in Wales.
From as far back as I can remember, I always loved traveling.

As regular readers of this site will be aware, Manchester City supporters turning up at
Eastlands last week for their Monday night Premier League match against West Ham United might have
been somewhat surprised to see a clutch of people outside their ground with collection tins. These
collectors weren't, to the probable disappointment of the home crowd, Manchester United supporters
having a whip-round after the collapse of the Glazer empire, rather they were supporters of Blue
Square North club Hyde United, who were desperately collecting money to stave off a winding up
order brought against them by HMRC.

EPL Talk 23 September @ 04:30 AM EST
When I launched EPL Talk in 2005, my initial vision for the site was that it would be highly
interactive and would embrace technology to bring English football supporters closer together. The
main feature at that time was an online chat that would be hosted every weekend so that website
visitors could chat at the same time they were watching Premier League matches, no matter where
they lived in the world.

After a three month 'think tank' it has been decided that following on from the huge success of the
EFW Gallery parts 1, 2 and 3 - we should launch another which is both bigger and better and call
it: the EFW Gallery Part.......wait for it.....4 (genius and relax - Ed).

Punch Portugalete into Google and it will probably direct you to its most famous landmark: The
Vizcaya Bridge. As nice as that bridge is, there is something in this suburb of Bilbao that I think
usurps their oldest transporter bridge in the world claim.

I came across this video today which features a West Ham United against Manchester United match
from 1975, and an unfortunate incident where parts of the ground were so overcrowded that fans were
getting crushed at the front and spilling over the fence on to the pitch.
It demonstrates how packed football grounds were and how the police had a difficult time trying
to control crowds.

Sir, I read your magazine with interest each month and so was particularly excited to see my own
city, Liverpool, featured in your mini-guides this month.
Alas you saw fit to label stoop to gaining lazy, easy laughs at the expense of Goodison Park,
home of Everton FC. I presume this stems from a lack of editorial judgement on your part and a
mischevious streak on the part of your correspondant Richard Vaughan.

This piece is the first of a series of articles intended as personal recollections of some
of our lost football grounds. Should you wish to contribute to this series, please feel free to
email us via the "Contact" page, which is linked at the top of this page. The first piece in this
series takes a fond look back at Southbury Road, the late, lamented home of Enfield Football
Club.

The biggest story of the Sixth Round was Tampere United's decision to play their home tie
against Jaro at Tammela Stadium, a ground considered by many to be Finland's best. The significance
of this is not obvious to those who have not been closely following Tampere football in recent
years, so I will recap briefly.

Seeing as how the Ashes have started and England aren't - at the time of writing - being
thrashed seven shades of black and blue by Australia (though there is plenty of time for
that to happen over the next few weeks or so), we thought that now would be an appropriate time to
have a quick look back at the (now dying) breed of sportsman that combined their summer sport with
their winter sport.

This evening's Championship play-off semi-final between Reading and Burnley was a battle between
old and new. In the blue corner were Reading, snatched from the jaws of obscurity by John Madjeski,
who dropped them into a brand new stadium and gave them the means to challenge for a place in the
Premier League.

Should I stay or should I go?
Since the start of the Premier League clubs have spent over £2.5 billion on upgrading their
stadiums. English clubs make more from gate receipts then any of their European counterparts.
Although attendances are still very good, with the exception of the 3 promoted clubs and money
bags Manchester City they are actually slightly down from last season.
