Around The Grounds: St James Park, Home Of Exeter City (Photos)

Flying high at the top of League Two after an unbeaten start to the season, Pies reckon this is as good a time as any to give Exeter City a doff of the cap by taking a snoop around their stadium.

Not to be confused with Newcastle United's monochrome hulk (note the lack of apostrophe), St James Park is at least in part a throwback to a bygone age of football stadium design.

Impressive: Exeter City Coach Matt Taylor Turns Floodlights Off With Merest Flick Of His Hand (Video)

Exeter City have come flying out of the traps in League Two this season, currently sitting as they are at the very top of the table with five games played.

Obviously the results have been good, but it looks like the Grecians specifically their defensive coach Matt Taylor may also be dabbling in the occult to help get points on the board.

A very short history of floodlit football

Mirko Bolesan at related • 0 views

"It is without question that first-class football by floodlight is both spectacular and enthralling. With vision fixed to the pitch that alone is illuminated, there can be no distraction at all to disturb or frustrate attention. There is an accentuated feeling of expectation and excitement, and the speed of the players and of the game itself is, or seems to be, increased.

Cup Final Timings Confirmed

Anfield Talk at related • 0 views
The Football Association has confirmed that the FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea will kick-off at 5.15pm on Saturday, 5th May.
The showpiece event will be the first to be played under floodlights in 19 years, with the last being the 1993 replay between Arsenal and Sheffield Wednesday.
It is the first time the final has been moved away from its traditional 3pm kick-off since the new Wembley opened its doors in 2007.

Five thoughts on the SW6 derby

I think we should petition the F.A. to have all Fulham v Chelsea games to be played at 8:00 on a Bank Holiday from now on. Keegan once remarked that the atmosphere at Craven Cottage under floodlights could be a bit special and combined with a day off and the visit of our nearest neighbours this made for an electric atmosphere.

Beat that, Superbowl. Advertisers at Craven Cottage got some extra bang for their buck during Saturday's match between Fulham and Manchester United. The floodlights failed plunging the stadium into darkness. Those plucky digital hoardings kept working hard, though.

Match Of The Week: The FA Cup – AFC Sudbury 5-0 Ilford

Twohundredpercent at related • 0 views

The earliest rounds of the FA Cup could, for those participating, be considered to have a small amount of nuisance value about them. Clubs seeking to build a little rhythm to their league seasons find that the cup interjects every two or three weeks or so, and those that are successful can find themselves with a backlog of cancelled fixtures that can cause major headaches later on in the season.

Club merchandise (CPBL experience)

BoLASEPaKO at related • 0 views
I blogged something about club merchandise based on what I saw in Australia years ago, and added that there must be some essentialities that would prompted the supporters to part their cash on these items, other than showing their affiliation to the clubs they follow.

Which is why I implied that concept in my recent trip to Taipei, where I was there to catch two baseball games featuring the CPBL side I follow - the Brother Elephants.

One of these teams is in the Champions League semi-final, but you wouldn't know it from watching the game. Which is a bad thing, I suppose, as it'll only confirm to Clint Dempsey what he probably already knows: he can play with the top players because he is one of the top players.

Dempsey it was who scored Fulham's well deserved equaliser tonight, a free header from a corner that hobbled into the far corner of the net teasingly slowly.
