UEFA Europa League Recap and Video Highlights – Thursday, November 5, 2009

The UEFA Europa League continued on Thursday, November 5, 2009 with 16 group stage matches. A few teams struggled including Celtic who have only 2 points in the group stage. Roma defeated Fulham in one of the other matches and is now in good position to advance to the knockout stage. Overall, there are two matches left with the top two from each group advancing.

Some of the interesting matchups include Celtic and Hamburg in Group C, Villareal and Lazio in Group G, and Sporting, Heerenveen, and Hertha Berlin in Group D.

The draw for the play-off round of the Europa League was released on Friday as teams will be looking to advance to the group stage. All three English clubs are still live (Fulham, Aston Villa, and Everton) as well as last season's winner's Shakhtar Donetsk. German Bundesliga side Hamburg faces French Cup winners Guingamp, who are actually a Ligue 2 side while Zenit St Petersburg (2008 Champions) CD Nacional of Portugal.

Manchester United's Serbian u21 star Zoran Tosic has said he will leap at the chance of replacing Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford next season if given the opportunity.

The skilful winger, signed by United from FK Partizan in January's transfer window, has been wowing the crowds in this summer's UEFA u21 tournament in Sweden, leading to talk that he might be about to step into Ronaldo's shoes now the Portuguese star has left for Real Madrid.
