Both Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran ran out of steam a bit in the second half at Villa Park on Tuesday night, and manager Alan Pardew is hoping those two key players for Newcastle will be able to last longer through the second half against reigning European Champions Chelsea tomorrow afternoon at St.
Pre-season friendlies can often tell us very little about our side and how it's progressing for
the real battle ahead. As the campaign draws closer however, the matches seem to get tougher and
our match against Valencia tomorrow night could be a good pointer as to how we are developing under
AVB.
"It's good to talk..." With just a few days before The Reds go all snowbird and head down to Orlando ("WHOOO! SPRING BREAK!"), Kevin Payne took time away from packing his mesh "Daytona Beach '84" tank-tops to hold a round-table discussion with some members of the mainstream Toronto football media.
"Lesh get fishical!" If there is one overarching theme to this site - it is high-intensity physical fitness. We are practically aware addicted to "healthy body - healthy mind" here at The Yorkies. Sadly, the long, dark winter months of the TFC off-season aren't always conducive to calisthenics and regimented diet plans so we seek extra motivation.
David Beckham today donned an Arsenal kit to train with the Gunners squad. The former England captain is keen to maintain his fitness as he plots his next career move after leaving LA Galaxy. There's no suggestion that he's about to join Arsene Wenger's squad on a more permanent basis... but would you welcome him, [.
The Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong returned to training earlier than Jack Wilshere after his 7 month layoff with a broken leg, and has played in more reserve games that the young English international, but he is adamant that he is still not yet ready to be thrown into the Gunners first-team just yet.
Arsene Wenger surprised everyone (including Jack himself!) by naming the returning young Wilshere in the Arsenal starting XI against QPR, and the Frenchman admitted that he hoped that just having Jack back on the pitch would give the side a much-needed confidence boost after two back-to-back defeats.
Today marks the 10th anniversary of Wayne Rooney bursting onto the scene with a stunning first Premier League goal against Arsenal in 2002. A decade later Wazza is arguably still the most gifted player at England's disposal but continues to attract criticism for his form and fitness. Has Rooney lived up to his early promise [.
The Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere may have played a couple of hours for the Arsenal reserves, but it seems that Arsene Wenger is going to stick to his promise not to rush him back to full fitness so as to make sure he doesn't suffer a setback from trying too hard.
The Gunners captain Thomas Vermaelen believes that Wilshere has been working hard and will come back even stronger but admits that it will take time for him to return to match fitness.
The Germany legend Berti Vogts, who won the World Cup with his country in 1974 and also managed them to two European Championship Finals (winning one) has spoken out about the new Arsenal star Lukas Podolski.
He thinks that the ex-Cologne striker had it too easy in the Bundesliga and spent too much time out partying with his mates than concentrating on his fitness for the club.
I have some good news for Gooners! by AH Now, please take note that the title is sarcastic, but I
thought that this recent piece of news would be good to share with the readers on justarsenal.com.
According to a few media outlets including the Daily Mail, Mikael Silvestre will soon return to
Arsenal to [.
Arsene Wenger has said that when injured midfielder Jack
Wilshere regains full fitness, it will be like a fresh new signing for the club, but has
insisted that the England international will not be forced back into action ahead of schedule.
There are a lot of Arsenal fans that will have given up on Abou Diaby ever returning to his
brilliant form from his younger days, but we could take heart from the fact that a certain Robin
Van Persie was also injured for seven years in a row before he finally turned into a top-class

Arsenal's Injury List Grows by AH The inevitable has happened once again and Arsenal has been
weakened by the lack of fitness of our players as they prepare for the new season. But with the
meaningless international friendlies lined up for this week we can hopefully take into account that
Arsene Wenger may have exaggerated [.
Podolski ready to reveal himself: by SV Everyone is still pinching themselves after the signing of
Santi Cazorla, with many calling him our best signing of the last decade. Personally, however, I am
more excited about the prospect of Lukas Podolski. Ever since the 2006 World Cup in Germany, I've
wanted the striker here at [.

Jack Wilshere completed his first full game in 14 months for Arsenal on Tuesday, and he has revealed that he is feeling fitter after every match and believes that, given time, he will return to the high level of peformance he achieved before his ankle injury first knocked him low.
"I don't think there was a point where I thought I'm not coming back," Wilshere said.
The Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby returned to the fold in spectacular fashion this summer with some impressive performances at the beginning of the season. Unluckily this was also noticed by the France manager Didier Deschamps who immediately called up Diaby for the World Cup Qualifiers last month.
Emmanuel Adebayor's return to full fitness may cause selection headaches for AVB but for now, his appearance as a second half substitute at the weekend has been welcomed – particularly by Clint Dempsey.
The American international went on to claim that Ade's return would also spur other players to take their performances to a whole new level.
Tomorrow evening's Europa league tie against Panathinaikos would have given Andre Villas-Boas the perfect opportunity to give Emmanuel Adebayor a run out as an alternative to Jermain Defoe as the lone striker.
However, reports suggest that the Togolese is making good progress from his hamstring problem but he isn't 100% and is unlikely to play any part in the match.
Some of us may have been expecting Emmanuel Adebayor to start up front for Spurs on Sunday after the Togolese had supposedly worked his way back to match fitness. At the beginning of last week, AVB explained that Ade needed to work on that fitness after seeing no pre-season action at Manchester City and the signs were that he might be unleashed against Reading.
Former England international Owen Hargreaves has announced that he intends to sign with Chelsea
in the upcoming EA Sports video game FIFA 13. The 31-year-old midfielder, who made just four
appearances with Manchester City before he was released at the end of last season, was unable to
find a new club during the summer transfer window.
Sometimes, it's the little things that make life worth living, isn't it? Image: AFP/Getty Images.
The Bundesliga starts this weekend. Fingers crossed Mario Gotze wins his fitness battle in time.Â
For everyone's sake. Here's our slightly irreverent list of predictions for the weekends action.
What are yours, Kickettes?
ESPN understands that Liverpool will only consider an offer of £25 million for Denmark
international Daniel Agger, who has been targeted by Premier League champions Manchester City.
Liverpool sources have confirmed that City has made approaches over Agger, 27, but that the two
sides are some way apart in their valuation of the player, who has two years left on his contract.
With several tabloids putting two and two together and making five, Sir Alex Ferguson has set
the record straight on why Wayne Rooney was left out of the starting team against Fulham. Rumours
have been rife that our striker was ready to leave the club this transfer window, with City being
the team mentioned again.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Real Madrid have offered United Kaka on a season-long loan as
they  prepare for the arrival of Luka Modric. Mourinho wants to get rid of Kaka, but he is finding
the number of clubs that can afford his wages are pretty small. So he is considering sending him on
loan with the idea of trying to sell Kaka next summer.
It's a South East Asian thing. They have this obsession that players are never fit enough and the
answer is more stamina work. It's a refrain I have heard many times over the years, usually from
foreign players more used to relaxed regimes where they use that round thing.
Not here. Gruelling multi kilometre runs are the norm followed by training!
The Philadelphia Union have announced that they have agreed to a mutual contract termination
with forward Jorge Perlaza. Perlaza joined the Union this season in a trade which sent MLS
Superdraft first overall pick Danny Mwanga to Portland. This move should come as a surprise to no
one. Perlaza had not played or been available as a sub for the last ten Union games.
Any new coach coming into a club will, sooner or later, make his mind up about the existing
squad but some of the transfer rumours coming out of White Hart Lane will have surprised Spurs
supporters.
While the club continues to offload the deadwood with the sale of Sebastien Bassong to Norwich,
there are claims that AVB is looking to clear out five more players but those names include Tom
Huddlestone and Michael Dawson.
It's a question we have been asking for quite some time now isn't it. Well I say we have been
asking, but it's mainly other people on here and family and friends I have that all say the same
thing.
David Luiz without question is "World class" no matter where he plays. So comfortable with the ball
at his feet (why wouldn't he be as he is Brazilian after all), is two footed, reads the game
fantastically well and can pick a pass just like Leboeuf!
We all suspected that there would be some clearing of deadwood at White Hart Lane and some
newspapers are claiming this morning that as many as five players could leave Spurs before the
season starts.
Most of those names won't surprise anybody – Jenas, Bentley, Bassong and Naughton but the
fifth player on the list may cause some debate.
The USA celebrated a historical win over Mexico beating them for the first time in Mexico about
three weeks ago. Today, it was the Reggae Boyz recording their first win ever against the USA in
nineteen meetings as they took advantage of a midfield without Michael Bradley and his potential
link up with the men on top.
Football clubs are always looking for new ways to prevent and reduce the number of injuries that
they inevitably experience each season and Napoli have one rule that they credit with keeping their
number of muscle injuries low: No sex for two days each match.
From Football Italia:
"Avoiding sexual activity for two days before a game is fundamental to prevent muscular strains,
contractions or inflammations," Professor Alfonso De Nicola [Napoli's chief medic] told theÂ
Corriere del Mezzogiorno newspaper.
You heard it here first: no one is going to go to Napoli anyone. No one. And Cavani is probably
regretting that contract he inked just last week or so.
No sex 48h previous a match not just in the champagne room, but anywhere.
"Avoiding sexual activity for two days before a game is fundamental to prevent muscular
strains, contractions or inflammations," Professor Alfonso De Nicola told the Corriere del
Mezzogiorno newspaper.
Full game recap coming, but a post-game discussion got me to do some research. Namely people were
asking why Pareja seemed to be unwilling to play Casey and Cummings at the same time. I wondered
how much of that was by choice and how much was due to injury so I looked it up.
Only 9 times this season have they both been Probable on the injury report or better, and in each
of those games at least one of them was listed as Probable, so they've never been completely
healthy (Casey has been on the injury report every game this season).
Speaking to the club's official site, Bolton manager Owen Coyle said midfielder Stuart Holden was
continuing to push to full fitness. "It's one of those ones that we have to do in Stuart's own
time," he said. "We have to give him as much time as we can until he feels that both physically and
mentally it's time for him to step things up.
Today's practice in the beautiful sunshine of Seattle was an opportunity for the Sounders to
slow down a bit. It is one of those rare weeks with merely one game. That game is as large a
Cascadia game has ever occurred in MLS, but still it is merely one game. The number one story today
was the amount of activity out there.
