If you've been following me in the past week or so, or are a poster on BS or BTB, you might know
that I was a tad infuriated with the team selection last Tuesday at RFK against Firpo. I thought
that it was pure evidence that the team didn't take the tournament seriously, despite lip service
to the contrary.

Tuesday night was good and bad for MLS, as Toronto FC and DC United finished their preliminary
round ties in the CONCACAF Champions League. With lackluster performances in their respective
opening legs, both sides needed to get a good result on the road in order to move on in the
competition.
Toronto went down to Puerto Rico needing a win after they dropped the opening leg 1-0 at BMO Field.

The underwhelming start for MLS teams in the 2009-10 CONCACAF Champions League has to remind some
fans of last season's poor showing, when Chivas USA was eliminated by Panamanian side Tauro FC and
Joe Public embarrassed the New England Revolution. With Toronto FC, DC United, and the New York Red
Bulls all failing to pick up wins in the opening leg of the competition's preliminary round, all
three could easily see their Champions League hopes dashed by this time next week.

It was supposed to be a chance at redemption for D.C. United. A new crack at the CONCACAF

DC United played few starters and bemoaned schedule congestion and travel. Well, after that
listless tie with Firpo at home last night, it's pretty likely their schedule and travel
possibilities will lighten up considerably over the next few months as the team has almost no
chance to advance in the CONCACAF Champions League after that craptacular performance.
