West Brom fans are receiving an unexpected windfall following Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to retire at the end of the season. The Baggies' final match of the season is at home to Manchester United, which means it is also Fergie's last game in the dugout. With United fans desperate to be there to see him [.
Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov has slammed former boss Sir Alex Ferguson for treating him
poorly at Manchester United and finally admits that he should have considered leaving Old Trafford
in 2011.
Berbatov was United's stand-out striker in the 2010-11 season, scoring 21 goals in all
competitions, only to see himself snubbed for a place in Fergie's UEFA Champions League final
match-day squad.
Manchester City and Chelsea both won in their EPL season opening matches on Sunday. The top of
the table remains crowded with seven teams tied at three points. Manchester United will take on
Everton tomorrow in the final match of the opening round.
Below is the English Premier League table through August 19, 2012.
Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has urged his teammates to fight successfully for silverware
every season but admits that the roller-coaster 2011-12 title race left him sweating on the final
match-day.
City, who controlled their destiny going into the last game of the season at home to QPR, needed
to match Manchester United's result to lift the title at the Red Devils' expense.
And so the final match of Tour 2012 was conducted last night against Hannover 96. For the
benefit of those watching, both teams had a pre-match conference and decided that defending was not
to be given high priority; the result a seven goal thriller. The match did at least show Utd to be
improving in playing speed as the Premier League opener draws nearer.
Quick round up of the latest tour news. As you know, we've moved into Europe now with Valerenga of
Norway. The match itself was 0-0, thanks to a combination of missed chances and a goalkeeper
blocking shots almost as if he made a living that way. But the more important news was the return
of Nemanja Vidic, out since early last season, who completed an hour of play.
We continue our series of archive videos of the clubs of the Football League Championship this
morning with a club that became the champions of England twice in four years during the 1970s,
Derby County. Under the managership of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor, the club was promoted to the
First Division in 1969, and they gave a glimpse of what was to come with the first of our six
matches, a mauling of Tottenham Hotspur at The Baseball Ground in September 1969.
England under 21s secured a 2-0 win in Azerbaijan last night to put themselves top of their
qualification group with one game to play. Tottenham defender Steven Caulker headed in the opening
goal in Baku in front of a bumper crowd of 214. Liverpool's Jonjo Shelvey added a second goal to
secure victory for Stuart [.
Hulk has now left Porto to join Zenit St Petersburg. Before completing his transfer, he decided his
parting gift to the club could be a final goal and winding up every non-Porto fan in Portugal. With
Porto trailing 1-0 in Hulk's final match, a drop-ball restart after an injury which usually
protocol dictates should [.
The more eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that we're slowing down on this series now that
the new season is properly under way. We'll work our way through the rest of the Football League
over the next few weeks and months, but tonight we continue with Crystal Palace and we have six
matches from the years between 1971 and 1990.
This morning, we return to our series of videos of the clubs of the Football League Championship
with another of those relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season, Blackburn
Rovers. Blackburn Rovers is a club whose initial decline arguably started with the advent of
television, which makes archive footage of them a little difficult to find, but we do have six
matches for you today from the years between 1968 and 1994, kicking off with a trip to Craven
Cottage to play Fulham in 1968, and this is followed with a home match against Sheffield United
from the 1969/70 season.
We continue our series of historical videos of the clubs of the Football League Championship
League One and League Two are to follow this afternoon with Burnley FC, and six videos spanning the
years from 1960 to 1994. The greatest period in the history of this club was largely hidden from
the view of television cameras autocratic owner Bob Lord didn't allow Match Of The Day cameras into
Turf Moor until 1968 but we do kick off with a short film made for the BBC on the subject of their
league title-winning side of 1960, before skipping forward twelve years to follow the Clarets to
Craven Cottage for an away league match against Fulham from the start of the 1972/73 season
By the middle of the 1980s, the decline of English football was more than apparent.
We continue our series of the Football League Championship clubs' matches of the past this
morning with Bolton Wanderers, and six matches from the years between 1954 and 2003. The first
match comes from 1954, and sees Bolton travel to the Manor Ground to play Headington United, who
were of course to later become Oxford United, on a snow covered pitch in the FA Cup.
We continue our series of historical videos of the clubs of the Football League Championship
this morning with Birmingham City, and six matches from the years between 1975 and 2007. Our first
match is a trip to Hillsborough for an FA Cup semi-final against Fulham in 1975, and our second
match is from the following year, a trip to Filbert Street to play Leicester City in a league match
from December 1976 which features a devastating performance from Kenny Burns.
The same day the news hit that Pia Sundhage was leaving her job as U.S. women's national team
head coach, the Olympic gold medal-winning U.S. women played their first match since the Olympics
and treated fans to a showcase of attacking prowess.
For their third Olympics in a row and fourth time overall, the United States Women's National
Team stood at the center podium, and had gold be put around their necks. Even sweeter was the
victory, which came at the expense of Japan, who stole the 2011 World Cup in a heartbreaking
penalty shootout last summer.
The US Women face Canada in the Semi Finals of the 2012 London Olympics today at 11:45 AM Pacifc
on NBC Sports Network (Comcast 626, 603 on DirectTV). The United States has come under scrutiny for
the Canadian's claim that their set piece defense is illegal, which is just a precursor to the
excuses issued for yet another Canadian loss to the US.
Tommy Smith made a welcome return to theIpswichTownside today after
hisNew Zealandteam were knocked out of the Olympics.
The Oly Whites ended their London 2012 experience bottom of the group, but that won't have been too
disappointing for the side which also included Chris Wood (BristolCity) and Ryan Nelsen (QPR).
Title holders Germany are through to the next round of the U-20 Women's World Cup and boy, oh
boy, will they be facing an opponent worthy of the final match-up itself : Japan! The
German girls thrashed Norway 4-0 in Saitama, a squad that has been trying to replicate their 1995
Women's World Cup success for more than a decade.
The final weekend of almost every regular season has its share of drama, and the USL Pro's
season finale was no different as two teams snuck into the playoffs while another saw its
postseason hopes vanish.
The Harrisburg City Islanders and the Wilmington Hammerheads booked the final two spots in the
postseason and the Charlotte Eagles fell out of sixth place and the playoff picture by losing on
Sunday.

The Seattle Sounders will be trying to make history while Sporting Kansas City will be trying to
deliver a trophy to their fans as the two MLS powers square off in tonight's U.S. Open Cup Final
(GolTV, 9:30pm).
The Sounders will attempt to become the first team in history to win four Open Cup titles in the
tournament's 99-year history, but they will have to do so on the road at LiveStrong Sporting Park,

45 seconds left, penalties are all but a certainty. Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan make their way
into the box. Heather O'Reilly puts the ball in...and an eruption of cheers. Alex Morgan scores
arguably the most important goal of her career, setting up one of the most hyped rematches in
soccer history; USWNT versus Japan, this time for Gold in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
With just one final match left to play in 2012, the New England Revolution sit at a pretty poor 8-17-8 record. The playoffs have realistically been out of reach for two months or more, and after a bright start, a lot of the same old issues that have plagued the Revs since around 2008-2009 or so started to appear.
After a break for international play, the inexorable charge towards the playoffs now continues. Saturday night, the Dynamo play the Philadelphia Union in their penultimate match of the regular season. The final match is on the road, so this marks Houston's final chance to see their team play in the regular season, and a chance to quietly finish off what would be a very remarkable feat (superstition prevents me from actually mentioning said feat, in the hopes that it actually comes to pass).
Previewing the final match against the northern Cascadia rivals.
This penultimate Cascadia Cup match for the Seattle Sounders sees one of their rare remaining road games. They see the Vancouver Whitecaps while heading in opposite directions. In Seattle's last five matches they have 8 points.
Wednesday night's match is simply one of those where a team can clinch with a win and not worry about the final match of the Group Stage. Winning will have its own challenges - horrible surface, high heat and humidity, CONCACAF referees, nearly unknown personnel opposing. All the things that you can love and hate about the CCL are right there.
Real Madrid took down Celtic 2-0 in the final match of World Football Challenge on a steamy
afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field. We've got a full match report.
Well, today's the big day. And just to make SBNation's (via outsports.com) Patricia Nell Warren
really, really happy, let's take the time to reflect on how awesome the USWNT's coach is. A moment
of silence, please.
Pia Sundhage, Like Most Gay And Lesbian Coaches, Doesn't Get Enough Credit
Hate reflecting on homosexuals, you know, the kind that bring teams to the deciding final match for
two years in a row?
To celebrate the release of the Chelsea FC Champions of Europe 2012
DVD we are offering three readers the chance to win a copy.
In May 2012, Chelsea FC lifted the coveted Champions League trophy after an unforgettable
