I am fond of February. It is the first month of the off-season when you can finally say 'TFC game
next month". That, and the signs that days are getting just a little longer, are important to
me.
Now since I blogged that TFC was using the pre-season stage to shed some players, they turned
around and signed two defenders.
January was another interesting month at the Lamex Stadium. After an unbeaten December and with
Stevenage now in the shake up for the League 1 play-offs, Graham Westley was a wanted man. GW and
his team were snapped up by Preston North End after weeks of uncertainty over his future. A new era
has begun at Stevenage with Gary Smith appointed as the new manager.
More shocks and surprises are on the cards with match day 3 of AFCON set to begin later on
today. As things stand, co-hosts Equatorial Guinea and Gabon, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Tunisia have
all sealed their places in the next round.
Friday's thriller between Gabon and Morocco that saw the Co-hosts win the game with the last
kick of the ball probably has to be the most entertaining match of the competition thus far.

Kansas City the Comets hosted Soccer Saturday at the palatial Sprint Center in front of a

Once again, the Serie A has resumed after a long, cold winter, starting off once more with
Franco Colomba's final game at Parma, a 5-0 defeat against an Inter side that has now won five
games on the trot and lie in 5th place in the table, a point behind Lazio, who have been dealt a
4-0 gubbing by the club that Mattia Destro plays for.

The Baltimore Blast announced on December 16 that forward Matt Watson would be released from his
contract effective January 1 so that he could join Major League Soccer club Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Watson, a member of the Blast for the past five-plus seasons, played his final game at the First
Mariner Arena that December evening and remained with the club through their New Year's Eve victory
against the Milwaukee Wave.
The Revolution won't have to wait long to start collecting frequent-flier miles thanks to a
travel-heavy start to the 2012 regular season that will put them on the road for four of its
first five games.
New England will pack its bags for where else - California, where they're scheduled to kick
off their 2012 campaign on Mar.
The 2012 Philadelphia Union schedule was released on Thursday afternoon. After opening the
season in Portland on Monday, March 12 at 9:30pm, the team will open at home against Colorado on
Sunday, March 18 at 4pm.
The Union will finish the season hosting New York on Saturday, Oct. 27.
In the Eastern conference, the Union will play New York, DC, New England and Columbus at home
twice and once on the road.
Martin Skrtel has hailed the influence to Liverpool of Craig Bellamy after the Welsh
international's two-goal display against Newcastle United in the final game of 2011 on Friday

Liverpool's No.39 was a constant menace to his old side and the Slovakian was quick to mention just
how important a figure he is for Kenny Dalglish's side.

Why the title race will become the battle of the mind games
Roberto Mancini knows all about squeaky bum time. In 2008, his Inter Milan team Âfrittered away
an 11-point Âadvantage at the top of Serie A and went into the final game of the Âseason needing
to win at Parma to ensure the league title.
'He's been exceptional'
As Jose Enrique prepares to face his old club Newcastle for the first time with Liverpool in the
final game of 2011 tonight, the Spaniard will do so with a big seal of approval from a Kop

SPRATTON 2-4 JAMES KING BLISWORTHSaturday 31st December 2011Northants Combination Division 1Smith Street, NN6 8HWAfter a two week break from watching football for Christmas I am in Northamptonshire for my final
game of 2011. With Oadby Town not playing until Monday, good friend Kevin Zupp agreed to come with
me and I picked him up from his house in Kibworth at lunch time for the forty minute drive south.
Even for the most faithful Seattle Sounders supporters among us, this has been a bit of a rough
off-season. The numbers fairly illustrate why: Nine players that were part of the team during the
final game of the season are no longer here. Those players represent more than 14,000 minutes of
all-competition playing time or about 29 percent of the total minutes played by the team.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard could return from his two-month injury absence against Blackburn
on Boxing Day.
The England international has not featured since the draw with Norwich at the end of October after
sustaining an ankle infection having already missed a large chunk of the season.
Gerrard, 31, has appeared in just five matches this campaign as a result of injuries, but he is
back in training and stands a chance of facing Blackburn at Anfield.
Trevor James, an assistant coach for the Portland Timbers during the 2011 season has officially
departed from the team's technical staff today. Those of you who were with us during this past
pre-season will remember that he had spent the previous 5 years as an assistant coach and director
with the LA Galaxy, which means he brought a lot of experience from one of MLS's best teams to the
Timbers, unfortunately for us.
Jozy Altidore and AZ Alkmaar will play their final game before the month-long winter break on
Wednesday evening when they travel to Amsterdam to face Ajax in the Dutch Cup.

If Edson Buddle's absence from FC Ingolstadt's match-day roster this past weekend didn't raise
eyebrows, what has transpired since surely will.
According to German outlet Kicker, Ingolstadt manager Tomas Oral has dismissed Buddle from the
relegation-threatened team until after the winter break.

Lyon players celebrate qualification for the last 16
It looked like game over for Lyon in this year's Champions League, after the French giants left
themselves with an enormous task ahead of the final Group D matchday.
Hi everyone,
If you have seen this weekend's games, you must have noticed that the referees did make some
questionable decisions.
I am going to start off with the Newcastle - Chelsea game which ended with Chelsea winning 0-3. The
controversial decision there came in the beginning when Daviz Luiz pulled down Demba Ba when he was
going clear on goal.
LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (Dec. 4, 2011) - The U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team won the Nike
International Friendlies for the first time, beating Brazil 3-1 in the final game of the tournament
in front of a capacity crowd at the Premier Sports Campus.

The busiest day of the 2011 Winter Showcase is about to conclude. We say about to because out on
Field 11 right now the last game of the day is entering the last 15 minutes. Two U-17/18 Academy
Select Teams are battling it out in today's 78th and final game. That's a pretty big haul and it
spanned a full 12 hours.
After pounding ACC tournament champion Florida State 3-0 on Friday night in the first
semifinal of the College Cup, Stanford has a chance to play once again for the national title.
The Cardinal advanced to soccer's version of the Final Four by completing its third straight

in the early 1990s.

Stoke will now venture further than they've ever managed in Europe thanks to an 81st-minute
Kenwyne Jones goal (and a superb last-minute save from Asmir Begovic for that matter) which saw
them equalise against Dynamo Kiev on the night and thus ensure the Potter's qualification for the
knock-out phases of this year's Europa League.

In the final game before the Bosnian Premier League's winter break, Velez Mostar were held to a

Danijal Brkovic and Velez Mostar will be looking to pick up a valuable three points in the Bosnian
Premier League when they visit GOSK Gabela in their final game before the long winter break.

You should never get ahead of yourself in football. Sing the praises of a team too early, and
they can fade away and make you seem foolish (see the pundits handing Chelsea the title after five
games of last season).
A revenge goal, beautiful build-ups and top individual play. It's safe to say that Wednesday's
UEFA Champions League's marquee matchup lived up to its billing.
Barcelona captured Group G and forced Milan into the runner-up pot for the knockout stage draw
after an entertaining, 3-2 victory at the San Siro.
Ahmad Latif's goal just after the hour mark means that the SLeague won't be decided until Sunday
when both Home United and Tampines Rovers play their final game of the season.
You could say it's advantage Tampines as they have a narrow one point lead going into Crunch Sunday
(hey, ESPN do it all the time) but Home United have the superior goal difference.
