but lost the final game. This year Real Salt Lake faces the Los Angeles Galaxy for the coveted MLS

North America will have a new soccer league from April after rebel clubs broke away from the
established second tier league to form a new competition.
The seven include USL champions Montreal Impact and the team they beat in the league's final
game -- Vancouver Whitecaps.
The Carolina Railhawks, Miami FC and Minnesota Thunder have also split from USL to form the new
league along with former USL team the Atlanta Silverbacks and a new team from St.

While I've been moving, things have been falling apart in south-central Ireland. In the middle of
last week the directors of the team resigned, followed by the manager on Friday. This was leading
up to the team's final game of the season on Saturday at home to Shelbourne. Earlier int he week te
fixture was called off, but the fans got together with the remnants of the team and figured out how
to make it work.

The 4-1 thumping of Alkmaar in midweek was an immensely satisfying affair, a triumph of
footballing philosophy over the defensive nous of coaches such as Ronald Koeman, and yet another
demonstration that this Arsenal team is serious about combining footballing beauty with tangible
success.
But prior the the match, there was a definite sense of relaxation amongst the fans, as if the
game really didn't matter, so assured was our progress regardless of the result.

Champions League View: Bayern Munich and Liverpool FC could get 10 points and still not
qualify.
An entertaining set of Champions League games threw up some unexpected results, great games and
the odd ninja (but not a very effective one). Almost all of the big names have a chance to reach
the knockout stages, even though the likes of Bayern and Liverpool have made it very, very
difficult for themselves.

The Colorado Rapids will not be going to the postseason for the third straight year after New
England beat Columbus today. Remarkably, the Rapids were still in with a shout at getting a playoff
spot after their 3-0 beating by Real Salt Lake yesterday. Results elsewhere meant that they could
still get into the postseason, apparently if Columbus beat New England.

beat Jabloteh 4-2 to knock DCU out of CONCACAF Champions League play.
United must now win at Kansas City and hope for a few key results from other teams in order to

You Don't have to be Einstein to figure the MLS Playoff picture out, but it wouldn't hurt.
Seriously, I have been mulling over the various scenarios that will still allow Real Salt Lake to
make the playoffs and it makes my head hurt. As I write this there are several tiebreaker scenarios
most involving the full-moon, crop-circles and the Mayan calendar predicting the end-of-the-world
in 2012 but the simplest way for RSL to make the playoffs is for them to beat the Colorado Rapids
in the final leg of the Rocky Mountain Cup on Saturday night and Toronto FC, New England, D.
