Liverpool's American owners will end the club's 10-year stadium saga by committing to develop Anfield as a refurbished 60,000-capacity venue, including 7,000 'corporate' seats. The club publicly maintains that no final decision has yet been made between refurbishment and a new stadium but detailed plans are in place for a phased expansion of the Main Stand and then the Anfield Road stand.
Liverpool are still trying to speak to Brendan Rodgers as doubts surround Roberto Martinez taking
over at Anfield.
Martinez has held talks with Liverpool's American owners and an offer has been made to the Spaniard
but Wigan chairman Dave Whelan says there is a big question mark over whether he will take the job.
Andy Carroll could have moved to Sunderland for free during his time at Newcastle, according to
Magpies assistant John Carver.
The Black Cats were allegedly interested in signing a young Carroll before he was given his chance
by the then academy boss in 2004.
The big striker went on to repay the faith shown in him by scoring more than 30 goals for the
Tyneside club after his first-team breakthrough.
Wenger defends financial fair play Yesterday a meeting was held, where all the 20 Premier League

Roberto Di Matteo admits that Chelsea are in the hunt to sign unsettled Wigan forward, Victor
Moses, but have yet to match the Latics' valuation.
Wigan chairman, Dave Whelan, recently revealed to the news sport on Bet365 that the club had
rejected a third bid from the Blues, thought to be £5million, and are holding out for a more
substantial fee for the talented 21-year-old.
With two roster slots still wide open and at least one (possibly two) open international spots,
the New England Revolution have a lot of options to play around with in their search for mid-season
reinforcements. It can be agreed all around that defensive help and striker depth are the areas of
greatest concern for the Revs, and if rumors on twitter and in the Italian media are to be
believed, they may be about to address the former.
Tottenham's Scott Parker took part in England's first training session under Roy Hodgson
although it seems that the injury doubt hanging over the midfielder has yet to go away. Scott was
named in Roy Hodgson's squad for Euro 2012 despite an Achilles problem that had kept him out of the
Spurs squad at the end of the season and he now has to prove his fitness to the new boss.
After the announcement that the US Open Cup Final rights were awarded to Sporting Kansas City
over Seattle fans of the Sounders took to twitter to vent frustration. The lack of transparency,
the claims that the bids were tied and USSF's general disinterest in Seattle and the Pacific
Northwest fuelded the vitriol.
Mauro Rosales and Adam Johansson could both return to action on Saturday against the Colorado
Rapids. Seattle Sounders coach Sigi Schmid indicated that a final decision will be made on both
injured players' availability after they go through training on Tuesday and said that neither will
be playing in the reserve game later that night.
Andrew Duran underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Thursday, and will be out 4-6
weeks. The Seattle Sounders first-round pick apparently hurt himself in an earlier training
session, but it recently reached a point where it became apparent that something needed to be done.
Duran had previously suffered a knee injury in 2010 that resulted in him being granted a medical
redshirt for that season.
The eight-man International Football Association Board said that the technologies of two
companies, Hawk-Eye from Britain and GoalRef, a German-Danish company, would be subject to further
tests until a final decision was taken at a special IFAB meeting in Kiev on July 2.

This means that when the Sounders are in the Club World Cup next December there won't be any
phantom goals.
Having endured month after month of speculation, Robin Van Persie has finally revealed the
decision regarding his future, and it does not involve the Emirates with Arsenal.
The Dutch international has long been linked with a move away from North London, but he insisted
that he would not make a final decision on his future until after the European Championships.
Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has revealed his excitement at being coached by Arsene Wenger as
he awaits his debut in a league that he considers to the most "attractive" in the world.
Podolski joins fellow Germans Per Mertesacker and Thomas Eisfeld at the Gunners next season, and
although he has repeatedly acknowledged that the former encouraged him to sign for the club, the
final decision was completely his own.
West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce is looking to strengthen his recently promoted side by
reportedly pursuing former Real Madrid veteran Jose Maria Guti.
Guti, 35, was released by Turkish outfit Besiktas at the end of last season and if a deal is
agreed in the coming days, the player will be able to join the Hammers' pre-season in Austria as a
free agent.
A day after cooling talk of Didier Drogba's summer exit, Chelsea have confirmed on their
official website that the Champions League final hero will no longer don the club's blue shirt next
season.
Drogba, who headed home a massive equalizer to send Saturday's clash with Bayern Munich to extra
time and also scored the decisive spot-kick to seal the Blues' first ever Champions League title,
leaves the club on extremely friendly terms in pursuit of a new challenge.
Joe Cole,a free transfer arrival at Anfield from Chelsea in July 2010, is set to leave Liverpool
this summer with manager Kenny Dalglish expected to cut the wage bill and reduce the average age of
his under-performing squad.
Cole, 30, has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in Ligue 1, becoming an integral part of Rudi
Garcia's side, who despite surrendering their league crown remain on course for Champions League
football next season.
Frank Lampard might be feeling that he has some issues going on with his current manager, Andre
Villas-Boas, but the tactician apparently isn't feeling the same way as the ex-Porto's coach
revealed that he still wants Lampard to stay with the club next season.
Despite recent confession from Lampard about his imperfect relationship with the manager,
Villas-Boas doesn't seem to be troubled as he revealed that the 33-years-old remains an important
part of his squad.
Shocking news out of Scotland where Rangers have filed notice of their intention to enter
administration as they admitted they could be facing a tax bill of 'substantially more than
£50million'.
Rangers lodged papers at the Court of Session in Edinburgh and said a final decision would be
taken in the next two weeks.
Chelsea's manager, Andre Villas-Boas, revealed an interesting statement regarding his current
managerial experience at Stamford Bridge, stating that he is actually not really stamping his
authority in the dressing room.
Villas-Boas revealed that unlike some manager who can be a sort of dictator with his players,
the former Fc Porto tactician admitted that he is having a different path by becoming more of

After years of dragging his feet, FIFA president Sepp Blatter has finally admitted that
goal-line technology is a necessity in modern football and all it took was for an overlooked goal
to go England's way.
In the hours after England's 1-0 win over co-host nation Ukraine in a final Euro 2012 group
stage match that was overshadowed by a Ukraine shot that crossed the goal line but wasn't ruled a
goal (and should've been irrelevant since an offside call was also missed just before the shot),
Blatter hopped on his official Twitter account to proclaim: "After last night's match #GLT
[goal-line technology] is no longer an alternative but a necessity.
Just two months away from the International Football Association Board's decision on whether to
implement goal-line technology in competitive matches, testing on the two options being considered
has moved into its second stage of testing. And though you might imagine that testing to be some
kind of cross between The Matrix and Tron, it's actually more like setting up a display at a
discount sporting goods store.
Barry Robson has to learn that MLS refs are different than European refs. (Getty Images)
I wish I had more time over the weekend to really go into this. Saturday morning an email went
out to the media regarding the suspension of Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Barry Robson for his
actions on last Wednesday night against FC Dallas.
For the time being, this has pretty much ceased to be about Rangers. As the Scottish Football
League prepares for its General Meeting on Friday, at which we may (or may not) get a final
decision on their league placement for next season, Rangers themselves have assumed the position of
bemused onlookers.
Was Giroud the replacement for RVP? by KJ After the horrible news that we learnt of yesterday, I am
now curious to know whether Olivier Giroud is the replacement for the soon to be gone Robin Van
Persie. From Robin's ill-thought letter, it came across that both Wenger and Gazidis knew of RVP's
final decision [.

REAL Madrid has been sporting the bwin logo on their jerseys since their 2007-2008 campaign.
Earlier in the year, rumors began to circle that the online giant was considering a change. Now
after a recent court decision, it seems very likely the team may indeed lose their sponsorship at
the end of this season.
Interim England manager Stuart Pearce will have been disappointed to lose a number of selected
players for Englands game with Holland on Wednesday, with Darren Bent, Wayne Rooney, Kyle Walker
and Tom Cleverly all dropping out of the squad. But there have been no more casualties as Pearce
was able to train with a full complement of 21 players at Wembley on Tuesday after Gareth Barry was
fit to take part of training as bwin betting has Holland as favourites to win.
Neil Blackmon turns last week's narrative from the failed WPS to the

Quite a past week for women's soccer in this country.
The morning after one of the most dominating qualifying performances, for any international
tournament, in the history of the sport, the already-on-life-support WPS cancels the 2012
season.
People become match officials for many reasons. Illusions of grandeur; forget the fact their spouse
abuses them by taking it out on players; uniform fetish; a love of thrusting out arms that came
from watching Nurnberg rallies; chances of making more cash on the side; because they weren't good
enough to play the game and still wanna be involved.
