MirrorFootball Podcast: This week Robbie "Strictly" Savage and Tom Watt talks Kicking
and Screening
On this week's instalment of the MirrorFootball Podcast Steve Anglesey catches up with our very
own dancing queen, Robbie Savage. And we also hear from actor, writer and Arsenal fan Tom Watt, who
tells us about the upcoming Kicking and Screening football film festival.
Like Magellan apparently...It's the word that's sweeping the nation: "gel". As Toronto FC tries to explain away loss after
loss, the collection of new players added recently has provided excusematicians (it's real - I
looked it up) the new verb du jour. "Injuries", "lack of talent", "a new system", "Harden".
Editor's Note: We were asked to contribute a column to the Kicking and Screening Soccer
Film Festival a few weeks back. The festival, which runs from July 20 to 23 at the Tribeca Theater
in New York City, features some of the most interesting soccer films from around the globe. If
you're in and around the NYC-area don't hesitate to get tickets to this great event.
The 2011 Kicking and Screening Soccer Film Festival beings July 20th and several high-profile
flicks will make their world and/or New York premiere (which we authored a drinking guide for), but
the one movie that really caught our eye is "Sivan".
"Sivan" is a documentary short shown on the festival's opening night.
Please enjoy one of the selections from this weekend's Kicking & Screening Film Festival in
Amsterdam. Maybe some of you have seen it, maybe none of you have. Either way, it's a good
28-minute view. I will try to locate another or two of the weekend selection for you all, but
here's presentation #1. The Referee | Rättskiparen [2010] from Freedom From Choice AB on Vimeo.
We've got US camp stuff, as usual, but also quite a bit more. Tomorrow night, you can look for my
U.S. Player Ratings after the Chile friendly, which I will be watching at the local 4 a.m. start
time with Greg Lalas, in town for the Amsterdam Kicking & Screening Film Festival. And Sunday, I'll
have another sitcom video Top 5'er.
