Can This Man Own Milan?
For Milan fans, the news was bad enough that they had been trounced by rival Inter while being
watched by their owner and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. However, a rumor circulating
that Berlusconi has been in negotiations to sell the club to Libyan leader Muammar al-Gadaffi adds
to the confusion about whether the team is a serious threat to the scudetto and Champions
League.

Last week I posted the Calcio Quiz. I know I originally said I would post the answers on
Wednesday, but nobody has really tried to answer since Thursday so I'll go ahead and unveil the
answers today. I hope the quiz was challenging, and maybe I'll post more editions of the Calcio
Quiz in the future if I can think up 50 more questions!

With most news being transfer rumors now and calcio being in a lull period, I thought this would
be an interesting thing to do. I call it Calcio Quiz! (name stolen from an iPhone application. My
apologies if the creator is reading this), and I'll test your knowledge of the calcio world with
random questions that I made up.

After Italy's elimination for the U-21 Championship last Friday, Gigi Casiraghi was unsure about
his future. He said that he would let the night pass and consider his options. The media were
expecting that Casiraghi would decide to leave after 3 years at the helm and go on to newer
pastures.

I knew it would be tough. But by age or by lack of fire in our belly or Lippi forgot how to coach,
Italy have simply been awful in this Confederations cup. I doubt Lippi forgot how to coach. So lets
not engage that confused thinking.Instead it could be as simple as lacking a fire combined with old
age.

The name Federico Macheda has been bandied around a lot lately, and not just because of his two
stunning late goals against Aston Villa and Sunderland. Macheda has been the object of an
international tug of war between Manchester United, his current club, and SS Lazio, the club that
nurtured and developed him as a boy.

Moderazione e toni bassi. La richiesta, estesa a tutti i tesserati, arriva dai piani superiori. E'

Here's what I scrounged around for today:
-Milan striker Marco Borriello has been operated on and will now start his recovery. Reports are
he will be out for around 2 months. (could be less if he puts a lot of hard work into the recovery
process.)
-Pierluigi Casiraghi is predicting a big Olympic performance from Lazio striker Tommaso

Let it be said that without the proper guidance even the best of ships can be run aground. That's
what we saw this summer with the Azzurri, not to suggest that Roberto Donadoni cant become
special. But at this station in his life he was unfairly tasked with this job.So on July the 1st the
FIGC will announce the rehiring of Marcello Lippi.

Roberto Donadoni (or Gonagoni as he was cruelly nicknamed by, er, us) has been tossed a mouldy
lifejacket and told to jump off the good ship Azzurri. Meanwhile 2006 World Cup winner Marcello
Lippi has been welcomed back on board and saluted as captain, as if he'd never been away.
The FIGC (Italian Football Federation) couldn't have sent a clearer message if they'd tried:
this boat has been off course for two years and we want to go back in the other direction.

The Italian Football Federation has confirmed that Marcello Lippi has been named as the new
coach of Italy, succeeding Roberto Donadoni whose two-year reign ended earlier today.Donadoni's position became virtually untenable after Italy crashed out of Euro 2008 at the quarter
final stage to Spain on Sunday night.

Paolo Maldini has been celebrating another historic milestone in his illustrious career.

Last season, Mark Clattenburg was the best referee as measured by Football Is Fixed's Bum Ref
Index. In an underachievement of some magnitude, the man is this season rated the most incompetent
of the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOB) referees.
The Economist's Big Mac Index, on which our slightly subjective league table is based, utilises the
econo-myth of purchasing power parity to compare currencies while we compare referees negative
impact on the games in which they officiate using our privileged position as market analysts.

The absence of a close season state of uproar in Serie A has been most conspicuous by its absence
this summer so it was somewhat comforting to hear of the bans announced on Monday for four players
who have been found out betting on match outcomes.
And these aren't just any old players but four of the senior statesmen of the Italian game. The
Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has handed out medium term bans and fines to these players plus
fines for the clubs involved in the match manipulations - Udinese, Vicenza and Mantova.
