When it comes to knock out games, the U.S. women's national team certainly like late game
heroics. In the 2011 Women's World Cup it was Abby Wambach in the 122nd minute against Brazil and
yesterday it was Alex Morgan and the 123rd minute against cross-border rivals Canada. Morgan's goal
propelled the USWNT to a 4-3 win and secured a berth in the Olympics goal medal match.

A-Rod (no, not THAT A-Rod) keeps coming up in the clutch over the last few weeks for the Ottawa
Fury. This time Alex Rodriguez scored to put the Fury up 3-1 in the 106th minute of their eventual
3-2 PDL Northeast Division Playoff overtime win against the GPS Portland Phoenix in front of 265 at
the Algonquin College Soccer Complex in Ottawa on Tuesday night.
Sacha Kljestan subbed on in the 61st minute for Anderlecht in a 5-0 shutout of FK Ekranas in the
Third Round of Champions League qualifying. Tom De Sutter opened the scoring two minutes in at
Constant Vanden Stock Stadium and da Rocha Kanu doubled the lead in the 21st. Deiudonne Mbokani
scored in the 41st and 52nd minutes, with Milan Jovanovic adding the fifth goal in the 86th.
Sacha Kljestan's strong 2011-2012 season continues.
The American midfielder tallied his fifth goal of the season Wednesday, opening the scoring in
Anderlecht's 2-1 victory over Zulte-Waregem. The win wrapped up the regular season for Anderlecht,
which finished atop the Belgium Pro League standings and will take a three-point advantage into the
six-team league playoff hexagonal, where the top two finishers qualify for the UEFA Champions
League.
The Portland Phoenix finished off the PDL regular season by crushing the Boston Victory, 5-0, in
front of a reported 225 at Scarborough High School.
The Phoenix (10-4-2, 32 points) had already clinched second place in the Northeast Division and
a playoff spot heading into the match, while the loss means the Victory (3-11-2, 11 points), finish
their inaugural season in last place in the eight team division.
Luiz Camargo scored his first career MLS goal for the Houston Dynamo and Saturday, and it could
not have come at a better time.
Camargo buried an 87th-minute equalizer off a left-footed volley to give the Dynamo a 2-2 draw
with the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium. The near-post finish negated Saer Sene's
second goal of the game, and left the Revolution with their latest bit of heartbreak this
season.
Newcastle were treated to a five star performance from Spurs as we despatched five goals without
reply. The first came after some quick passing between Bale and Ade, the latter sending a cross
along the six yard box, Benny unmarked on the far side, steamed in and blasted the ball into the
net. 1-0
The second goal came after Krancjar controlled the ball with a neat touch and sent Ade down the
wing.
Uganda have won the CECAFA Cup for the twelfth time as they needed the drama of a penalty
shoot-out to overcome the challenge of Rwanda in today's final.
Uganda became the cream of east and central African football again following a game in which all
of the goal scoring action took place in the second half of normal time.
The Rapids definitively needed a win and on Saturday night the team delivered a definitive
victory in eviscerating the Portland Timbers 3-0.
Colorado (7-8-1) scored early to take control and late to make it a rout in dismantle the
Timbers. Jaime Castrillon scored in the 18th minute and Conor Casey tallied four minutes later as
Oscar Pareja's offense finally showed signs of coming together.
The GPS Portland Phoenix came out on top of the Western Mass Pioneers, 3-2, in a game with more
twists than a Hollywood drama on Sunday afternoon at Deering High School's Memorial Field in
Portland.
The Pioneers (3-3-5, 14 points), fresh off an upset win over the then first place Ottawa Fury on
Saturday night, looked ready to continue their run of good form against the Phoenix (7-3-1, 22
points), who needed a win to take over first.
The Vancouver Whitecaps made history by being the MLS team with the longest start to a season
without conceding a goal, and then they proceeded to giving up three in a short span.
Led by a brace from Chris Wondolowski, the San Jose Earthquakes scored three times in 11 minutes
to defeat the Whitecaps, 3-1, at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday evening.
For an athlete in any sport, nothing feels better than beating your rival. Although the Timbers
and Sounders have only met three times as members of the MLS, their bitter feud goes back 35 years,
including almost 80 matches, most of which were played in the North American Soccer League. For the
Timbers & Sounders, their next meeting was more than just another installment in the rivalry.
The Seattle Sounders beat the Chicago Fire. They did it on an own-goal that was nearly credited
as David Estrada's fifth goal of the season and Eddie Johnson's first as a Sounder. There was also
some kind of fight at the end of the game, which we really barely talk about.
It was definitely a good win and continued the Sounders' absolute ownership of the team that
likes to call itself the 'Kings' of a Cup that haven't owned in quite some time.
In just his first preseason match on Sunday, Eddie Johnson showed why the Seattle Sounders were
willing to make an aggressive move to acquire him and why that move carries some risk. The
27-year-old forward scored one goal, apparently on a left-footed shot from distance, and helped
contribute to two others during the Sounders' 5-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast University.
Barcelona recovered from their recent disappointments against Real Madrid and Chelsea to thump
Rayo Vallecano 7-0 on Sunday. After scoring their fifth goal, Thiago joined Dani Alves in a
rendition of the "Tchu Tcha Tcha" dance. As Rayo fans jeered at the choreography to celebrate being
5-0 up, Barca captain Carles Puyol ran in to break up the routine and scold the duo.
Real Madrid will face Bayern Munich in the semi-finals of the Champions League as they
professionally took care of business tonight against APOEL, winning 5-2 on the night.
Juventus finally saw an offensive outburst after weeks of low-scoring tilts, but the unbeaten
club failed to move any closer to AC Milan despite a 5-0 romp over Fiorentina.
Five different players scored goals for Juve, which stayed within striking distance of AC Milan,
who kept their four-point lead atop the Serie A standings after a 2-0 win against Parma.
Lyon who were facing elimination from this year's Champions League unless the made up a goal
difference of seven and Ajax were beaten by Real Madrid which they did as they beat 10 man Dinamo
Zagreb 7-1 ,while Ajax were beaten 3-0 in Holland by Real Madrid are under investigation in a
fixing storm.
Roberto Di Matteo has been another inspired decision by Roman Abramovich. The perceptive Italian
has managed to solve the old and new divide within the Chelsea squad. There is finally a distinct
feeling of squad harmony not seen since the happy times of Mourinho. Winning matches usually helps,
but more importantly, man management is the key.
You're too high up Humpty. You'll get a nosebleed and fall off. The JimmyG2 Column A strange
feeling of calm has overcome me since the fifth goal went in on Sunday. Even Mrs.JimmyG2 remarked
how well I was taking it. But that's because I have given it up. The season that is not Spurs. THFC
go on forever even after the current manager has beeen promoted or sacked, the current team has
been
There was a moment in the buildup to the fifth (knockout) goal in which Mahmadou Diarra seemed
to have lost control. A challenger saw him moment, but while Diarra re-orientated himself and
relocated the ball, the tackler seemed to bounce off an invisible force field, perhaps more than
once. It was like a lion cub trying to play with its mother: yes, yes, I know you're there but I'm
busy at the moment, get off and go away.
As the fifth goal went in the Wolves back four stood aghast, bedraggled, pointing, shrugging,
begging: who are these people? And why are they torturing us?
There were, of course, no answers, just as there had been no defending. Fulham had simply been
very, very good. 5-0 flattered Wolves.
Things just keep getting better for Clint Dempsey, and keep getting worse for Bolton.
The Cottagers posted a 2-0 victory on the Trotters to keep Bolton buried at the bottom of the
English Premier League standings. Clint Dempsey opened the scoring with his team-leading fifth goal
of the season to push Fulham to 11th in the Premier League standings.
The two top teams met last weekend as did two of the biggest teams and given the Javan centric
nature of the country the focus was obviously on Persib and Persija. Played at the Jalak Harapat
Stadium in front of 30,000 fanatic Bobotoh the hosts scraped through 1-0 thanks to a controversila
first half pen by Miljan Radovic, his fifth goal of the season.

Persisam v Pelita Jaya 1-4 (Eka Ramdani; Bajevski, Safee Sali, Greg Nwokolo 2)Persidafon v Arema
2-1 (Patrick Wanggai, Marcello Cirelly; Marcio Souza)
Safee Sali's fifth goal of the season took Pelita Jaya up to 6th place, leapfrogging Persisam who
suffered their first home defeat of the season.
This woman's name is Julieth Arias. She is the No. 1 choice goalkeeper for the Costa Rican
womens national side. When Costa Rica need a female goalkeeper, she is the woman they turn
to first. She is, by means of extrapolation, the best female goalkeeper in Costa Rica.
Jozy Altidore scored his fifth goal of the season for AZ Alkmaar, but lost 5-1, snapping an 11-game
unbeaten streak.
How the rest of our Americans did check out Steve Goff's Washington Post blog.

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 8 Virginia women's soccer team concluded its season-opening
homestand with a 2-0 victory over UNC Wilmington on Sunday in front of a season-high 1,129 fans at
Klöckner Stadium.
JC Banks (Milwaukee Riverside/UW-Green Bay) continued his impressive season for
the Rochester Rhinos on Saturday night, even if his evening came to a premature end.
Banks scored his fifth goal of the season in the 10th minute and the Rhinos went on to beat the
visiting Pittsburgh Riverhounds 2-0 in a USL Pro match.

Defending champion Santos took care of business on Thursday against Bolivian side The Strongest
with a 2-0 victory that included Neymar's fifth goal of the tournament. As a result, Santos
finished as the third-seeded team among those that qualified for the knockout round, behind
Brazilian sides Fluminense and Corinthians.
Herve Renard's cheeky grin, bright white shirts and furious bawls at perenially offside strikers
are now a distant memory. Nevertheless, the wheels of African football continue to grind along,
domestic leagues are in full swing from Lubumbashi to Nairobi, and the heroes (and villains) of the
Cup of Nations are back with their respective European, Asian and African clubs.
Expansion franchise Norfolk SharX are still winless in their inaugural MISL season following
Thursday nights lopsided home loss to Rochester 16-2.
For fans planning to following the action via MISLlivesoccer.com unfortunately the live video feed
fell victim to technical issues and was unavailable however WKFL Rochester did have an online radio
feed of the match.
