The Ivory Coast won their first match of the 2012 African Cup of Nations today, a 1-0 defeat of

Curious as to their current FIFA ranking and who else might likely put up a fight against the
Elephants, I looked it up. Learning that they rank 18th internationally didn't surprise, but the
fact that only 5 other African countries make up the top 50 did.

After months of stagnating, the U.S. men's national team is back on the rise in the FIFA
rankings, although barely.
The United States improved one spot to No. 33 in the latest rankings after having spent the last
three months at the No.
Thierry Henry has been able to provide a spark for Arsenal in his brief time on loan with the
club, but the Gunners may have to look elsewhere for inspiration during their crucial match this
weekend.
Henry picked up a calf strain in training, and his status is uncertain for Arsenal's match
against Manchester United.

table. Mexico drops to 21st, remaining first overall in CONCACAF. Spain remains the World #1, with
Holland, Germany, Uruguay, and England rounding out the top five.

Depending on whom you believe, David Beckham is either set to make a dent on the Paris-St.

Despite front-page reports in France that Beckham has signed an 18-month deal with PSG, people
in his camp have strongly denied that a deal has been completed.

As a sidebar to all of the hype surrounding the Euro2012 play off qualifiers this past week, I
noticed a great story emerging out of the Middle East which deserves more than a mention. Asian
power South Korea were beaten 2-1 in Beirut by Lebanon who rank 112 places below them in the FIFA
rankings which in any region is a huge accomplishment.

They may be playing meaningless friendlies, but the defending World and European champions are
stuck in a run of form unbecoming of the top-ranked team in the world.
After trailing 2-0, Spain scored twice in the final 10 minutes to salvage a 2-2 away draw with
Costa Rica in a match in which much of the first-team saw action.
Before we take a look at tomorrow's friendly against Spain, it's worth a quick
review of tonight's playoffs for the last four places in Euro 2012.
The first thing that jumps out is the quality of the teams in the playoffs. Since Euro '96
Croatia, the Czech Republic, Portugal and Turkey
have all reached the knockout stages of at least one of the subsequent competitions with Portugal
reaching the final in 2004.

While watching David Silva and Spain dismantle a dogged and compact Scotland on Wednesday, it
struck me: this was hardly Spain's best outfit and they were dominating.
Silva cemented his bona fides as one of the top half-dozen players in world football and Spain,

passed Scotland into an uneasy submission.

Update: With news that Bob Bradley is set to be confirmed for the Egypt
national team manager role, we re-issue this editorial below.
-
Late Sunday, the news came across the wire Twitter, that is that Bob Bradley was one of three
finalists for the Egypt national team job.
I'm not entirely sure where to start with this article, but I can safely say that
yesterday represented, for me at least, the culmination of almost 12 months of agony whilst
following the fortunes of England and it's now hapless manager, Fabio Capello. A good place to
begin would be to think back to the Group qualifying game against Algeria in South Africa last
year at the 2010 World Cup.
The starting speed forward for the Rapids All-Time Team is
Omar Cummings. How Acquired: Drafted in the 3rd round (31st overall pick) in the 2007 Superdraft.
Years In Colorado: 2007 through present
This was the trickiest pick of the team. I went back and forth between a 4-4-2 and a 3-4-3, but
eventually Cummings won out.
I never seem to learn from my mistakes when it comes to watching England. With the absence of club
football I guess their matches fulfil my fix for the week, which is reflected in the media, who
with pages to fill go a little bit England-crazy.
The problem is that the games – usually friendlies but also now competitive matches – prove to
be turgid, frustrating let-downs.
Trinidad and Tobago plays Barbados today at 4 pm and Keon Daniel may make his first start for
the country as a member of the Philadelphia Union.
Daniel and Trinidad pulled out a close 1-0 win over Bermuda on a Kenwyne Jones goal in the 44th
minute. Tobago was expected to pull well away from Barbados, but those expectations were not
met.
Since we're in the throes of international competition and most of the domestic league action is on
hiatus (save South America, where we are still getting a full slate of action), this week's Weekly
Club Rankings are being postponed a week in order to bring you the WCR International RPI Rankings
for September 2011.
For those looking in on England's progress over the past decade, it is clear that both supporters
and media oscillate wildly from boundless optimism to the depths of despair.
The Three Lions are either World-beaters or a bunch of over-paid prima donnas not worthy of the
shirt – you would be led to believe anyway.
Over the years, I've always tried to stay objective when examining England performances
and following their nice win over Bulgaria on Friday in Sofia, I was somewhat interested to read
many of the media comments from some pretty well respected columnists across the soccer world, who
fell over themselves to praise the performance.
The Netherlands secured their passage into Euro 2012 by racking up a record 11-0 win against
piss-poor San Marino with Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie bagging four goals. Currently ranked the
world's number one side in the FIFA rankings (for the first time ever), the Netherlands put on a
virtuoso display as they eviscerated their [.
For those of you who missed it, FIFA announced its revised edition of its World Rankings

- Uruguay
- Brazil
- Italy
- Portugal
- Argentina
- Croatia
Before I start my argument, perhaps we should look briefly at how this is worked out:
There are three main categories to decide where points are awarded; firstly, you have to win or
draw, no points will be awarded for a loss.
