Scott Kessler, Jeremy Sharpe, and the Sons of Ben are at it again.
Gentlemen, it is time to put down the razors, grab the grooming scissors, mirrors, assorted
mustaches waxes, choose the style that is right for you, and let testosterone do the rest, all to
raise money for Help Kick Hunger, to benefit The Bernardine Center in Chester, PA.
Saturday's Sons of Ben-organized Help Kick Hunger charity at McFaddens at Citizen's Bank
Park was a huge success. $8,300 was raised at the event, which featured appearances from the
Philadelphia Union's Brian Carroll, Zach Pfeffer and Jimmy McLaughlin. The recently retired Veljko
Paunovic was also on hand.
Lots of business stories from the weekend. We'll start with the broadcast of the
Arsenal/Manchester United match televised, live on Fox. The Sunday telecast was part of a large
block of sports programming on the new FIFA partner that included the NFC Championship game from
San Francisco. Rob Stone anchored the pregame and halftime festivities, but the network relied
upon its English crew for the play by play.
Joe Corona appears destined for a big 2012 as he continues to contribute for Club Tijuana while
becoming a bigger part of the U.S. national team set-up. All of that is on the heels of what was
just recognized as a pretty sharp 2011.
The 21-year-old Corona won the Golden Ball as Mexico's top rookie, beating out finalists Alfonso
Luna (Atlante), Armando Zamorano (Jaguares) and Hector Herrera (Pachuca) to take home the
award.
Football has well and truly restarted in earnest after the new year festivities now, and with
action in Spain, Portugal, Italy, England and Mexico to report on Argentines Abroad is back as is
HEGS for that matter! Happy new year, everyone. ... Continue reading →
Mirror: New Year, new transfer rumours Milan clubs in tug-of-war for Carlos

MirrorFootball has teamed up with some of the blogosphere's best new writers to bring you even
more great football reads every single day. Today it's our Serie A blogger, footballitaliano.
Following you will find pictures and fan video taken during the meeting with MLS Commissioner Don
Garber on January 8, 2011. None of the video is professional so bear with us. The video does give
you a little taste of what it was like to be there.

Ducky's Note: If the title is lost on you, you have probably missed the greatest sensation
that was ever generated this side of the Arabian Sea. Even that side of the Atlantic has
heard of it.
As much comedy as the John-Terry-on-cigarette-packet incident has afforded to all of us, there
are two factual inconsistencies in the whole episode.
New Year's in NYC x AFR
No, the whole AFR Team didn't come together to take over the Big Apple. Now that would be
writing a few thousand words about. But my brother and I, alongside a couple of friends, did enjoy
a few festivities and quite a bit of footy.
In the world of football, festivities and holidays don't last very long... just ask AC
Milan! They've spent the last three seasons holed up in a winter training camp in Dubai,
ringing in the New Year in the presence of one another. At least David Beckham
threw a New Year's party when he was at the club.
Yearning to get back in the middle of things
Football returns today amidst the festivities but for Arsenal the game will not be on Boxing Day
as tube strike prevented the game from going ahead today. Of the teams ahead of us, 3 of them play
later today. Chelsea are up against Fulham, United at home to Wigan and City away to WBA.

Sorry for the lack of new posts in the past several days. I fell far behind in my personal holiday
affairs this early winter. I found myself scrambling this past week to prepare for all the
festivities like shopping and cooking. But it was all worth it. The past few days have been a

Christmas at the Kuyt's
Dirk Kuyt has lifted the lid on what it's like to be a Liverpool player during the Christmas and
New Year holiday and provided an interesting insight into how an international footballer
celebrates the festivities.

As the U.S. WNT will of course not be together for the holidays after breaking camp on Tuesday,
the team had its Holiday Party tonight and a merry time was had by all.
The focus of the party was the exchanging of Secret Santa gifts, spearheaded by master organizer
Heather Mitts, but the festivities also included Christmas music, cookie decorating and of course a
good helping of ugly sweaters (see above).
The Portland Timbers chose not to use their first round pick in the first round of the MLS
-Re-Entry Draft on December 5, but three teams made selections. Other clubs have been busy with
various trades of players or future draft picks, while rumors of upcoming signings for the Timbers
continue to gain some steam.
Major League Soccer announced the full 18 team protected list prior to the November 23 expansion
draft, listing players exempt from selection during the festivities. The Montreal Impact will then
have the option to select 10 players from the available pool to put on their roster for the 2012
MLS season, which I'll talk about in my next entry.
If you are ever planning a party, don't invite Uruguay. They famously scuppered Brazil's World Cup
festivities back in 1950. And, on a much more minor scale, they burst the balloons blown up for the
match to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italian unification in Rome. It brought the Azzurri
back down to earth after a victory over one of the hosts of next year's European Nations a few
days.

The likes of Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and England have all booked their places in
Euro 2012 already, but four tickets to the festivities in Poland and Ukraine still have yet to be
punched.
The NHL needs to make money any way possible these days. To bring in some extra cash, the NHL
sold the naming rights to the 2012 NHL All-Star Game to Tim Horton Doughnut Shop. The game will now
be known as the 2012 Tim Hortons NHL All-Star Game.
Tim Horton was an NHL player for 24 years until he died in 1974 in a car crash.
We recorded on Monday so this week's episode of Nos Audietis is pretty much about all the
festivities surrounding Kasey Keller's final regular-season home game. And what a game it was. Not
only did Sounder at Heart host a pretty awesome little get together, but the Seattle Sounders
treated the fans to a pretty impressive comeback victory that allowed Keller's day to be a real
celebration.

I have to admit; I've pronounced the season to be dead more than once before. But you gotta
cut me some slack, I wasn't counting on the absolute ineptitude of the rest of the Eastern
Conference. Thanks to their shortcomings, the Red Bulls found themselves clinging to the tenth
and final playoff spot after a draw away to Toronto.
You know you've made it when the boy with the slick
Cristiano hairdo (upper right) squashes his forehead and nose into the window of
the bus you're in... just for a glimpse of you! Nevermind that he isn't doing his magic for
Flamengo, it's Ronaldinho one of Brazil's favourite prodigal sons!
This year's festivities featured an extremely limited supply of fit footballers who we'd gladly
commit fashion faux pas with. Still, we were tickled to see Didier Drogba who, just hours after
Chelsea's 4-1 win over Swansea on Sunday put on his best lederhosen and mingle with fellow
Oktoberfest-goers in Munich.
By Chris Wright
Ivory Coast teammates Didier Drogba and Steve Gohouri donned thier lederhosen and flew out to
Munich on Sunday afternoon to sample a wee smidge of the Oktoberfest festivities currently
engulfing the city and, by all accounts, had a gay old time though not quite as gay as a member of
the German press would have it.
Morning all,
Welcome to the blog. In the real world (away from computers) there's supposed to be a horse race or
two in town today.
More importantly, FP is told, there is supposed some fine fashion on display. Offices in this town
are known to shut down for the afternoon, just so the ladies can get out there and enjoy the
festivities.
Since in order involved in the festivities you have to meet the requirements of having nothing
better to do with your time than spend a night stood with a camera crew desperately padding out a
live television stream, perhaps it is no surprise that the motley crews assembled around Sky Sports
News reporters on transfer [.
Four more spots remain in the draw for the UEFA Champions League group stage, and Arsenal is
hoping that it will secure one of those places to be a part of Thursday's festivities instead of
having to drop down to the Europa League.
The Gunners have dealt with plenty of loss, between on-field results and important personnel
bolting for other teams, and they'll look to hold on to a 1-0 lead over Udinese as their tie shifts
to Italy.
On September 10, 2011, before the Union's home match against the Portland Timbers, supporters
group The Illegitimates will be hosting a charity tailgate to benefit Miles For MJ. The "Bearfight
Brigade", a group of Union supporters that consists of Sons of Ben, Illegitimates, and other
groups, is setting up several events to take place during the Miles for MJ tailgate.
Pre-match festivities at the Portland Timbers - Vancouver Whitecaps match on August 20 will include
a special ceremony involving representatives of Harper's Playground and the Timbers Army. The
Timbers Army will present proceeds from the sale of a commemorative scarf to Harper's Playground to
benefit their efforts to build an all-accessible playground in North Portland.
Cristian Lopes has signed for Sri Racha. Yeah, I know, a little late.
The Brazilian striker has spent a number of years in Indonesia, most latterly with Deltras. My
abiding memory of him though comes from his Pelita Jaya days when he fell to the ground like he had
been poleaxed right in front of the travelling Persija fans.
Cesc Fabregas signs with FC Barcelona (Photo: CARL DE SOUZA/AFP/Getty Images)
Well the saga of Cesc Fabregas and FC Barcelona is finally OVER!! Thursday evening Arsenal
agreed to let Fabregas out of his contract and approved the transfer to Barcelona. However the
official announcement was delayed due to Arsenal not giving approval in written form until
Sunday.
Some good. Mostly bad. Sums up international friendlies rather well I'd say.
