The 2010-11 season was filled with amazing highs and relative lows for Lazio fans. Le Aquile soared
to the top of the table early in the season and remained there for a month or so before toppling
under the immense pressure of a wonderful Milan side. They eventually slipped down to fifth, losing
out on Champions League.

The Copa America, while a fascinating study in the underdog, has sort of gone off without yet
having a single defining moment, if Fernando Muslera's double save and Brazil's complete penalty
implosion are inching ever closer.
Thankfully, Paraguay and Venezuela fixed that nicely by closing out the former's penalty win in
the semifinal with a nice, big postgame brawl.
This episode of Serie A Weekly is a special one with returning guest Juan Arango of GOLTV USA,
SimplyFutbol.com and LaLigaWeekly. Juan and Kevin discuss Copa America Q-final action, surprising
Peru and Venezuela, the success of Uruguay and agony of Brazil. Part 1 centers on the
Brazil-Paraguay q-final match, while PartII is all Argentina and finally Part III takes a closer
look at Uruguay.
Two goals from Liverpool striker Luis Suarez within 5 minutes in the second half was enough to
see Uruguay beat Peru 2-0 on Tuesday and move into the Copa America final.
Uruguay, which reached the semifinals of last year's World Cup, will be looking for a
record-15th Copa America title in Sunday's final against either Paraguay or Venezuela, which meet
in the other semifinal Wednesday in Mendoza.
The Carlos Tevez transfer saga has taken an unexpected twist.
Corinthians has pulled its offer for the Manchester City striker, stating that it needs more
time and wouldn't be able to complete the deal ahead of today's transfer deadline in Brazil.
In a statement, the club indicated that Tevez would be with Corinthians "in the near future,"
meaning that a potential move when the January transfer window opens would be an option should
Tevez still be on the market.
Lazio, perhaps more than any other Italian side, have made some tremendously interesting moves in
the summer mercato. "Interesting," that is, because acquiring two strikers and swapping fullbacks
and potentially goalies is quite the gamble, a roll of the dice that could see the club challenge
for the top or fall apart into a mess of distraught egos and poor decisions.
So as wonderful as the Women's World Cup has been, the Copa America has been just epic from the
standpoint of a simple question: "Who?"
Was anyone expecting that much the summer after a full Euro season + World Cup year? Nay.
Gaslights are all on, have been on, and the needles are about to break off.
I go back to as far as I can go with my memories or with the documentaries that I seen, and I
remember Peter Schmeichel in 1992 Euro final, Toldo in the 2000 Euro Semi Final against
Netherlands, Dino Zoff against Brazil in 1982 Semi Final, Gianluigi Buffon or Iker Casillas in the
last two world cups finals, and now, I can add confidently one more name to the golden list:
Fernando Muslera vs.
Argentina is out of the 2011 Copa America after losing 5-4 on penalties to Uruguay following a
1-1 draw after 120 minutes.
Diego Perez's early goal was cancelled out by Gonzalo Higuain in an action-packed first half,
but despite chances from both ends, neither side could break the deadlock, ensuring a
nerve-wracking shootout to end proceedings.

COLOMBIA 0-2 PERU aet
ARGENTINA 1-1 URUGUAY aet; 1-1 at 90mins; Uruguay won 5-4 on penalties.
Peru and Uruguay are the surprise semi-finalists after Colombia and host nation Argentina
fell by the wayside yesterday.
The Peruvians needed two extra-time goals in Cordoba to overcome Colombia, who hit the woodwork
twice adn missed a second-half penalty through Falcao.
Once again an Argentine squad packed with some of the best attacking talent in the world
underachieved falling to a Uruguayan side in the Copa America quarterfinals. After 120 minutes, the
teams battled to a 1-1 draw with both teams missing a number of chances.
Carlos Tevez, who's been the news for a strongly rumoured return to Corinthians could not put
away his PK as the baby faced Fernando Muslera saved his effort.
Diego Forlan celebrates Uruguay's win over Argentina
Uruguay have sent tournament hosts Argentina crashing out of the 2011 Copa America. Following a
1-1 draw in the latest installment of El Clásico Rioplatense, the Uruguayans kept their
nerve in the subsequent penalty shoot-out and went through 5-4 on spot kicks with Carlos Tévez the
only one to miss from twelve yards out.

Not even homefield advantage was enough to help Argentina put an end to its trophy drought.
Argentina was knocked out of the Copa America at the Santa Fe Stadium on Saturday night, losing
to Uruguay, 5-4, in a penalty kick shootout after playing to a 1-1 draw.
I had a bad feeling about today. And indeed, today was a horrible day. It seems all teams I support
always lose, and this continues. Colombia lost, but much, MUCH worse, Argentina was eliminated by
Uruguay from the Copa América today.I knew it could happen. Uruguay is one of the best teams in
the world, and matches between these two giants are notably unpredictable.

Luiz Suarez's first-half equalizer ensured Uruguay started their Copa America challenge with a 1-1
draw with Peru in Group C.
Liverpool striker Suarez struck with virtually the last touch of the opening period in San Juan to
bring his side level after Paolo Guerrero had put Peru ahead.
Diego Forlan then had the chance to win it for Oscar Tabarez's men, but the Atletico Madrid striker
was off target when it would have been easier to score.
Roma goalkeeper Doni has snubbed a move to Liverpool, according to reports in Italy.
Liverpool had been linked with a move for their former keeper Brad Friedel before the American
chose to join Tottenham.
The Reds turned their attentions to Brazilian stopper Doni, who has fallen down the pecking order
at Roma this season, and it was reported that the Italian side had accepted a £1m bid from
Liverpool.
Striker Dirk Kuyt headed a stoppage-time equaliser for 2010 World Cup runners-up Netherlands in a
1-1 draw with Uruguay in a friendly at the Centenario on Wednesday.
Uruguay then lifted the Fraternity Trophy that had been put in play by winning a shootout 4-3 after
Robin van Persie had blasted the opening penalty over the bar.
Several sites in America reported over the extended weekend that the deal for Brad Friedel had
already gone through.
While there was no official word over here, sources in the US were claiming that a two year
contract had already signed. With no word from Tottenham this morning, rumours continued and some
names both old and new have emerged in connection with the goalkeeping ‘vacancy' at White Hart
Lane.
Scot is taking a look at team of the week for week 32. Formation is 4-2-3-1 Goalkeeper: 'Nando
Muslera (Lazio) The Uruguayan goalkeeper was back to his best in the Lazio goal. He was at his best
to deny Giovinco, Bojinov and Angelo. This is what Lazio need for a Champions League race. Right
Back: Cristian Maggio (Napoli) Once again Maggio was dangerous down the right hands side and he.
Today's news focuses on a striker's return to help his side in the Champions' League, a coach's
return to the league to help his side with salvation, and a goalie who might just need a home in
the near future.
Inter are the final Italian side remaining in the Champions' League, and must overcome FC
Schalke today in order to progress into the semi-finals.
Serie A pacesetters AC Milan are five points clear at the summit after being held to a goalless
draw at home to Lazio.
After an even first half in which neither side was able to create a clear opportunity, Milan
went up a gear after the break. The closest they came to breaking the deadlock was six minutes into
the second period, when Zlatan Ibrahimović's right-footed shot struck both posts of Fernando
Muslera's goal.
