Argentines Abroad: 6th November to now

Hasta El Gol Siempre 11 November @ 06:55 PM EST
Argentines Abroad is delayed slightly this week by the Monday night fixture bumping the normal domestic coverage a day on, and the fact I've been writing an article for another site (more of which later in the week). That's useful in some ways because the Copa del Rey in Spain has ensured there's action to [. Click to continue reading...

Video: Third division Alcorcon shock Real Madrid, 4-0

Soccerblog 28 October @ 12:22 AM EST

In a Copa Del Rey match, Jerzy Dudek was the goalie under siege as Francisco Borja scored the first goal, a under pressure Alvaro Arbeloa scored an own goal, Ernesto Gomez tapped in a third, and Borja completed Madrid's woebegone display with his second goal and Alcorcon's fourth.

Pellegrini rested Kaka and his place was taken by Guti.

Click to continue reading...

Injuries will impact the Champions League games

Soccer Tickets Online 20 October @ 08:20 AM EST

I am going through the Champions League games this week and I am amazed at the stars who will be missing because of injury. The Champions League is billed as the best club tournament in the world, but this years event so far has failed to live up to the hype. Whether it is familiarity because the same sides play each other every year, or a full schedule that leaves players vulnerable to injury, the Champions League group stages this year have been a major disappointment.

Non-Imposed Callup Calls Diego's Bluff

Mad About Fútbol 26 September @ 01:21 AM EST
Two weeks ago Diego Maradona was talking about shake up and revolution within the Argentine national team ranks. He talked about going to Europe and going "face to face" with players to tell them that they were no longer on the national team. He talked about having a domestic side that was going to be fielded as they were "hungrier" than the foreign-based players. Click to continue reading...

La Liga in the Champions League: Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid

La Liga Talk 16 September @ 03:30 AM EST

"Please, no acclaim, I'm just a humble footballer... who scored twice from two incredible free kicks."

The group stage of the Champions League began on Tuesday evening, and two La Liga outfits looked to initiate the exorcism of their personal demons.

Real Madrid and its galácticos played its first Champions League match of the season against an upstart FC Zürich team who, before the match, seemed more interested in whom they would swap shirts.

Bilardo will assume a larger role in player selection

Soccerblog 13 September @ 04:14 PM EST

Diego Maradona's power is being taken away. Carlos Bilardo is being asked to step in and help with player selection.

Julio Grondona had requested Maradona to avail of Bilardo's advise after the Bolivia drubbing but the manager who won Argentina the 1986 World Cup and helped catapult Maradona to the world stage has been marginalized with little input in the selection.
