It seems that in almost every aspect of the game, two clubs dominate the footballing world. They are Spanish super heavyweights Real Madrid and Barcelona. Any team boasting multiple stars is said to echo Real's Galactico era, while teams from League Two to the K-League are said to be a mini-Barcelona.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed he was eager to sign either Roma's Daniele de Rossi and Real Madrid's Fernando Gago but financial fair play led to the signing of Owen Hargreaves.

According to Transfermarkt, Juventus was the big spender in this summers transfer market, spending 85.7 million euros in total as the club completed full acquisitions on a number of players including Alessandro Matri and Fabio Quagliarella, who will be joined by fresh faces Arturo Vidal, Mirko Vucinic, Eljero Elia, Stephan Lichtsteiner and potentially the best deal, Andrea Pirlo, who arrived from Milan on a free transfer.

On a day when many managers strive to negotiate the ideal transfer fee for their ideal targets, there is often a realization that the ideal deal might not be struck after all.

Fortunately for these managers, not all is lost when they fail to agree a fee for someone they really want to bring to their clubs.

A.S. Roma have announced the capture of 21-year old starlet Miralem Pjanic from French giants Olympique Lyonnais for a transfer fee reported to be around £9 million .

Pjanic, who struggled to follow up to a sensation 2009-10 season last year, has attracted from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea in the past but it turned out to be a revamped Giallorossi side that eventually swooped for him on the transfer deadline day.

Real Madrid have sent Pedro Leon and Fernando Gago out on loan to get some much needed playing time. Leon is joining Getafe while Fernando Gago has joined Roma.

Leon returns to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez just a year after he was sold to Real for a fee of around £9 million. A joint-statement between the two clubs reads:
