Paul Kennedy of Soccer America reports that less than a year after he led the Colorado Rapids to
their first MLS championship, Englishman Gary Smith is out as head coach.
Management announced on Monday that it will not renew Smith's contract, making his departure
the second quickest forced exit of an MLS Cup champion coach in league history.
Gary Smith, who led the Colorado Rapids to an improbable championship in 2010, was shown the
door on Monday.
The coach, who had agreed to a new contract, and the team announced a parting of the ways on
Monday afternoon. The departure came the same day that Rapids players cleared out their lockers
following a 4-0 aggregate loss to Kansas City in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

When a story surfaced almost a month ago detailing issues between Colorado head coach Gary Smith
and technical director Paul Bravo, it was clear one of them wouldn't be back for 2012.
As it turns out, Smith will be the one not returning.

You could see the writing on the wall with this for several weeks. Gary Smith was not happy and
neither were the folks above him with the Colorado Rapids.
Today, they made it official as the club announced they would be parting ways with the only head
coach in their club history to guide them to a MLS Cup.
In his ten seasons in New England, Stevie Nicol oversaw the most successful run in Revolution's
history. But, after the club's record sharply regressed over the past two years in particular, the
writing was on the wall: it was time for the gaffer to go.
Many will remember that Nicol's debut came in 1999, when he replaced the last storied Revolution
manager the Spiderman himself, Walter Zenga for the final two matches of the season.

Years In Colorado: 2008 through present
There have been 6 total head coaches in Colorado's history, but there were only two under
consideration for this spot, Glenn 'Mooch' Myernick and Gary Smith.
The Colorado Rapids have only four home games remaining in the MLS regular season, and as the
dates dwindle, The Tuesday List takes a look at how the roster has changed since the team moved to
Dick's Sporting Goods Park for the 2007 season.
Looking at the 2011 roster, we go back in time to who was here in each of the previous
seasons.
It was a sunny Wednesday afternoon in Ft. Lauderdale Florida when the New York Redbulls played
against the Chicago Fire. Everyone who is anyone in the soccer world was there, but due to
mis-communication between the Red Bulls front office and Lockhart personnel, some of them had just
a little trouble getting in the door.

Forgive me if I am underwhelmed by this new news that Tottenham Hotspur and the L.A. Galaxy may
form a strategic alliance. Whatever that is.
Generally speaking here's the way I feel about these "thinking outside the box" partnerships:
Someone wake me up when these fancy alliances actually produce something worth writing about.
