As seems to be common, the week following an international break sort of works as a slow start
back into the stream of futbol. The great matches don't start until the Champions League picks up
on Tuesday. Most clubs are back in action this weekend, but there aren't any marquee matchups to
talk about.

The death of Hannover 96 and Germany goalkeeper Robert Enke at the age of just thirty-two would
have been a savage shock to anybody interested in international football regardless of the
circumstances. The fact that his death is being widely reported as suicide is numbing. Our thoughts
obviously are with his family and his friends at this time, and it would not be appropriate at this
time comment much further on the specifics of what has happened this evening.

Remember when you would fall and hurt yourself when you were little (as opposed to when you were
insanely drunk this past weekend) and your mother would try and trick you into thinking your bruise
or scrape was instantly healed by "kissing it all better"? Well, I'm pretty sure that's what the
Fenerbahce physio does for Roberto Carlos (0:30 into the video above) after he took an Abdulkader
Keita punch to the head in the 74th minute of Fener's 3-1 win over Galatasaray on Sunday.

This has been a fantastic weekend to hate somebody and wish him ill almost everywhere around the
world. As Daryl pointed out earlier, this weekend's fixture calendar was overflowing with big
derbies and heated rivalries including three different flavored clasicos, inter-city and
intercontinental matches.

Liverpool 2-0 Manchester United
Manchester United.

Without setting the world alight, Manchester United proved again how far we have come in Europe
over the past few years. Of course, you could argue the two appearances in the last two European
Cup finals already have shown that, but it's results like the one last night in Moscow that do it
for me.

Well, 36-year-old Roberto Carlos has decided that he's leaving Fenerbahce in December and wants
to return to Real Madrid so bad that he's offering to play for them from January to June for free.
Unfortunately, this is a club where they're even willing to pay the toilet cleaners seven figure
salaries plus all the cash they can eat, so that offer might not be enough to convince the Spanish
giants to take on an aging aged star.

As last week's rankings were brought to you from a train from Munich to Vienna, this week's is
brought to you from a train from Prague to Berlin. I wasn't able to attend a match in Prague, in
part because the blood match between Sparta and Slavia was moved to today, so this week's picture
is just a random one that I took in Prague.

When it comes to antagonizing opposition fans, Emmanuel Adebayor is a mere amateur next to Graeme

This time last year The Guardian writers predicted that after winning the Premiership and
European Cup double, Manchester United would give up their title to Chelsea. The reasons were
obvious, apparently, but I disagreed with every single one.
First they argued that if Chelsea came within a few points of us that season,
with a World Cup winning manager in charge they were certain to improve.
