3rd Degree 29 October @ 04:26 PM EST
The expansion draft for the 2010 Philadelphia Union will almost certainly take place on the Friday following MLS Cup. There will be a window that week to make trades then a freeze one day before the expansion draft. Since the 2009 season is over for FCD it makes sense to now look at who might get protected. What will happen on MLS' final weekend

The Netminder 23 October @ 11:12 AM EST
Can't stand the suspense or the scenario-crunching? Here's what will happen this weekend in MLS, chronologically:
Toronto at New York, 7:30 p.m.: A lot of people seem to be assuming Toronto will march right over the last-place Red Bulls. Don't overlook the motivation of New York playing the final game of a magical era -- the interim coachship of Richie Williams. Click to continue reading...

Playoff Scenarios For The Final Weekend

View From The Couch 23 October @ 10:55 AM EST
Colorado is in with:
  • a win
  • a draw and only one of DC, FCD, NE, and TFC winning
  • a loss by 1, FCD draws or loses, and 2 of DC, NE, and TFC losing
  • a loss by 2, FCD draws or loses, and DC, NE, and TFC losing

They also get in by finishing top 2 in the following tiebreakers (with the teams from the FCD/DC/NE/TFC group not involved losing)
  • Colorado-DC-FSL
  • Colorado-NE-FSL
  • Colorado-DC-FSL-NE
  • Colorado-Dallas-DC-FSL
  • Colorado-Dallas-DC-FSL-TFC

Or losing to FSL by only 1 goal gets them in through this tiebreaker:
  • Colorado-FSL-TFC

Decoding the playoff picture?

The Offside - Toronto FC 21 October @ 11:22 PM EST

I'm not going to lie, I've given up on trying to figure out how the different scenarios for this weekend's matches need to play out for Toronto to make the playoffs. The numbers are too much for me, so I'm going to just sit back and hope for a TFC win against New York and everyone else to lose. I guess that's not entirely possible, but at least we know that if Toronto wins, they have a much better chance of making it in than if they lose!

Cunningham Named FCD MVP

3rd Degree 16 October @ 12:13 PM EST
FC Dallas has announced their media voted awards for 2009 and Jeff Cunningham has been named FC Dallas MVP. Sparking FCD's second half surge with sixteen goals in 14 games was enough to get Cunningham the nod. Dario Sala won the Defender of the year award after showing leadership and stability behind a constantly changing back line. Click to continue reading...

Has Cunningham pushed to the front of the MVP race?

Jeff Cunningham can't stop scoring goals and it is time to start asking the question: Is he now the MLS MVP front-runner?

No, FC Dallas still hasn't qualified for the playoffs, and it still has plenty of work to do, but the fact that FCD has rattled off four wins in five matches to pull within striking distance of the post-season is a direct product of Cunningham's goal-scoring hot streak.

MLS roundup: week 30

The Beautiful Game (2) 12 October @ 11:51 AM EST
This will be the only league roundup in the world, because for some reason Major League Soccer insists on playing games while everyone else in on international duty.
There were four games -- two of which included San Jose -- so not much to get excited about.
For Sounders FC fans, Seattle's wildcard hopes were significantly boosted thanks to a tie by Toronto FC and a loss by New England. Click to continue reading...

Playing the (playoff) slots and weekend picks

Nutmegged 02 October @ 02:56 PM EST
Wow, and here I thought with Shalrie Joseph still playing and (reasonably) healthy, the Revs would be OK and make the playoffs, even without Steve Ralston.
And then came the Debacle at the Cotton Bowl, losing 1-0 and being run around and off the field by FC Dallas (FC DALLAS! Click to continue reading...

Purdy to Rejoin FC Dallas

3rd Degree 15 September @ 03:56 PM EST
I've asked around and word is trickeling out from people close to the team that FC Dallas will re-acquire Steve Purdy just prior to today's roter freeze deadline to replace Anthony Wallace. Wallace has re-agrivated his knee and has a torn meniscus, which saw him dropepd from the US U20 team. Wallace will now be placed on season ending injured reserve by FCD which will make room for Purdy's return. Click to continue reading...

Nothing Like a "Love Squeeze" To Welcome You Back

Daniel Hernandez made his return to MLS on Saturday, entering the FCD v. LA match as a substitute. Later as the scoreboard became more and more farcical, it fell on David Beckham to give Hernandez a nice welcome back throttling.

I’ve got two words: Galaxy vs. FC Dallas post-game analysis

The Offside - LA Galaxy 13 September @ 01:22 PM EST

And those words are: EPIC FAIL! Or maybe I've got five words: What the @#$%&! was that? 6-3? That's a team record for goals allowed in a game. 4 FCD goals game after the 70th minute. Three came after the 81st minute. It was an unbelievable set of breakdowns across the board and a new-look, increasingly confident, and very fast Dallas team took full advantage.

Parting Words with Drew Moor

3rd Degree 01 September @ 06:57 PM EST

Drew Moor is heading to Colorado tomorrow, but was nice enough to give us some time on the phone today for a conversation. It's been a long run for me watching Drew Moor, starting back at Indiana at the final four... or maybe even Dallas Cup without knowing it. Then scouting him at the combine, running into Drew and his father the night before the SuperDraft at a bar where I was eating dinner, chatting with him the next night after being picked.
