It certainly sounded like an exciting match! Too bad we weren't able to witness it. Regardless, the Portland Timbers managed to put on their most impressive performance so far, albeit against a team far removed from the MLS tier.

Hanyer Mosquera managed to open up the Timbers scoring sheet in the 3rd minute with an assist by trialist Michael Nanchoff, who has been fairly impressive this off-season.

While I was in Boston, Major League Soccer came to Tucson with the Desert Cup matches at Hi Corbett Field. The marquee match was always going to be Sporting KC against New York Red Bulls, but the series also featured matches with the Arizona Sahuaros and FC Tucson, two of the semiprofessional soccer clubs in the state.

Over the weekend I had heard about a MLS preseason match between Sporting KC and the New York Red Bulls in Tucson, but hadn't written a post about it. It's probably a good thing that I was late in reporting it, because the promoters of the match are still looking for a venue in town. The issue is that Hi Corbett Field, which was originally advertised as the site of the match, is rented by the Colorado Rockies for their MLB preseason, and the chances that the Rockies, who rent the stadium, and the City of Tucson, who own it,.
