U.S. calls up Casey

Conor Casey has been named part of the U.S. men's national team roster of 22 players that will train in advance of World Cup qualifiers against Honduras and Costa Rica.

The U.S. first travels to San Pedro Sula to face Honduras, with kickoff at 8 p.m. (Mountain) on Oct. 10 at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano.

Political trouble in Honduras coupled with the complete collapse of Costa Rican football (outside the youth level) in the past few months has the US virtually assured passage from CONCACAF.   • Chad Marshall's performance in the Gold Cup has earned him a spot on the US squad for the trip to Azteca. Interestingly, this puts Marshall past foreign based players Michael Parkhurst, and Danny Califf. Consider this a major victory for MLS, and proof that the league is comparble in quality at its top level to any European league.

US Outlasts Panama in Philadelphia

With several players leaving for Europe during the week, including new FC Sochaux signing Charlie Davies, the US roster was depleted to say the least. Nevertheless, the team put in a gritty performance to earn a 2-1 win in extra time against Panama.


The game was only the second USMNT game played in Philadelphia, the other being a 4-0 loss to Israel in 1968.
