Just a few weeks ago Inter were the talk of the Serie A, for all the right reasons. Seven
consecutive wins on the back of solid defending and a return to form of striker Diego Milito saw
the Nerazzurri shoot up the league table and become serious contenders for a Champions League
place. There were even whisperings of Inter being a legitimate threat to Juventus and Milan for the
Scudetto.
guest writer Richard Hall Originally the Nerazzurri could not believe it, Zlatan Ibrahimovic had
gone but in return they had 46 million Euros and even better they had Samuel Eto'o. Now, half a
season since the Cameroonian left for Russia the question is being asked, ‘Did Moratti sell the
wrong man?

including victories against city rivals Milan and fourth place Lazio. The club had a midweek
fixture in the Coppa Italia against Napoli, only to lose in controversial fashion once again to the

Lecce managed the shock of the round by stunning Inter Milan 1-0, the defeat bringing to an end the
Nerazzurri's six-game winning. Juventus kept their undefeated record intact by defeating highflying
Udinese by two goals to nil in very wet conditions in Turin on Saturday. Alessandro Matri was the
hero on the night as he claimed both strikes.
As the smoke cleared Monday morning in the city of Milan, there was no question who won the latest
edition of the Derby della Madonnina the night before. The sun shone a bit brighter and
everything tasted a bit sweeter for those wearing the Nerazzurri colours. In a hard fought battle
over 90 minutes, the warriors wearing the black and blue of Milan were victorious.

All eyes will be on the famed Giuseppe Meazza this weekend as Inter take on Milan in the Derby
della Madonnina. While the atmosphere of derbies in the past have been heightened by the on field
personalities, the latest edition of the Milan derby will certainly be white hot due to the
psychological warfare that has been waged by both clubs.
Atlético Madrid have named Diego Simeone as their new coach following the dismissal of Gregorio
Manzano.
The former Argentina midfielder, 41, scored 23 goals in 134 appearances during two spells at
Atlético, winning a domestic double in 1995/96. Simeone moved to Europe to join AC Pisa and then
Sevilla FC, signing for Atlético from 1994-97.
Carlos Tevez The Argentinean forward has been heavily linked with a loan move to AC Milan this
January. Having fallen out with Manchester City, he is currently on strike, back home in Argentina.
Milan will look to secure him on a loan deal with an agreed fee to be paid in June; similar to the
deal struck for Ibrahimovic in 2009.
There is no denying that the Nerazzurri season thus far has been full of trials and tribulations,
with the critics out in full force tearing into the former European and reigning World Champions at
any given opportunity. Just last week, Inter were barely above the relegation zone, languishing
near the bottom of the table after a defeat at home to second place Udinese.
Internazionale targeting the Champion's League? Not at this rate. President Massimo Moratti
declared: "we have to end the season in the Champion's League places. That is an absolute must."
This is quite a statement for a team who are eight points below third place Milan and ten behind
leaders Juventus.
Inter Milan took a toothless Fiorentina side apart on Saturday night to claim three valuable points
that see them move up to 11th in Serie A. Missing the likes of Javier Zanetti, Dejan Stankovic,
Diego Forlan and Wesley Sneijder through injury and suspension, Claudio Ranieri had to shuffle his
pack. Maicon, Yuto Nagatomo and Lucio came into the backline while Philippe Coutinho replaced
Ricky.
Internazionale take on Genoa tomorrow evening looking to gain a crucial win in their quest for
European qualification. The match has been rescheduled, after original tie was cancelled due to
severe flooding in the region and the tragic loss of several lives. Ranieri wanted to pay his
respects to those who lost their lives; he said: "I think a very important thing, more so than the
game, is that.
It was a mixed week for Serie A clubs competing in Europe's top competition. An enthralling
encounter with the world's best side ended in disappointment for AC Milan, while city rivals Inter
did just enough to earn qualification into the knockout stages with a draw in Turkey. But for
calcio fanatics, the highlight of this week's Champions League action came from a 2-1 contest at
the Stadio San.

To say that Inter's Champions League match Tuesday night against Ligue 1 champions Lille was a
"must win" would be a massive understatement. After a lackluster performance at the weekend that
resulted in a loss to Catania, the heat was on and cranked up to the maximum temperature. Yes, one
could argue the penalty given against Luca Castellazzi was a soft call and it should never have
been.
Inter versus Napoli was supposed to be a beautiful night of football. It was supposed to showcase
two top sides in Serie A who had represented Italy proudly in Champions League midweek. It was
supposed to be a battle between two teams potentially challenging for the Scudetto. It was
supposed to be a beautiful night of football.
Serie A Weekly guest writer Michael Moruzzi with a few words on an Inter turnaround in the making
Inter didn't lend themselves to stability during the past two decades. The dogmatic approach to
accumulating silverware – epitomised by Milan and Juventus in the late 1980's and 90's – was
not for them.
What a rollercoaster week it has been for the Nerazzurri faithful...yet again. As expected, last
Wednesday brought about the official end to Gian Piero Gasperini's reign as Inter head coach, with
the damning 3-1 loss to Novara solidifying his fate. After zero wins in the first five competitive
matches, a stop plug was needed to halt any more of Inter's season running down the drain.
One point. Zero wins. Three matches. Welcome to the start of Inter's 2011-12 Serie A season.
What should have been an easy win in celebration of Captain Javier Zanetti's record breaking night
in the Nerazzurri shirt, turned into an embarrassing night at the hands of Serie A newcomers,
Novara. Instead of commemorating the astounding 757 times ‘Pupi' has worn the black and blue to
place him as.
So the new Serie A season is upon us once more. So far the typical clichés have proven to be
incorrect. The age old stereotype of Italian defences being impenetrable was shattered with 37
goals being scored in the opening weekend. Much focus was placed upon Gian Piero Gasperini's
favoured 3-4-3 system and how this would allow Internazionale to regain their Serie A crown, from
bitter city rivals.
The Serie A season is finally underway and with it comes the hopes, expectations, and dreams for
all clubs in Italy's top flight. Everything seems a little brighter with the promises of what can
happen but when everything falls apart after the first match, that light is much dimmer than
before. Preseason only garnered more questions than answers in regards to Inter manager Gian Piero
Gasperini's.
Samuel Eto'o may have only been an Inter player for two seasons, but the legacy he leaves behind
will never be forgotten. "The Lion King" came to Inter in the summer of 2009, as somewhat of an
afterthought in the blockbuster Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Barcelona deal. Many people questioned how
the Nerazzurri were going to survive without the talent and skill of the Swede and if Eto'o would
be able to.
UEFA has announced that a total of €754.1m was distributed to clubs participating in the
Champions League last season and that Barcelona and Manchester United received the largest
amounts.
The €754.1m prize money allotted to the 32 teams who figured from the group stage onwards
consisted of €413m in fixed amounts plus €341,100,000 from the market pool.
The more important and titillating Champions League all apologies to HJK and Bangor City begins
today, and UEFA have marked it by announcing last season's financial haul from the tournament.
And at least Manchester United beat Barcelona in something, as they've come first, which should
come in handy on the day news reports indicate they're ready to float the club on the Singaporean
stock market for some added loot.
The Serie A season begins in a little over three weeks, yet the curtain raiser for Italy's top
flight takes place this Saturday. While Inter have been a constant in the Supercoppa over the
last six years, this year's matchup holds special significance. Not only is it once again being
held in Beijing's historic Bird's Nest Stadium, Inter's opponents are city rivals and last season's
Scudetto.
The new season is still a month away yet Inter are already feeling the wrath of the injury bug.
This past weekend saw two of the Nerazzurri goalkeepers go down with freak injuries. Emiliano
Viviano tore his ACL in his left knee during training on Saturday, while sliding to reach a ball in
a practice match.
Inter's preseason is well underway, with three friendlies and three wins under their belt. Ritiro
in the idyllic setting of Pinzolo has come and gone and after ten days, the squad has returned to
Milan with training to resume at Appiano Gentile. While the pitch and training grounds have been
quite busy with double training sessions and matches, they are not the only place seeing action.
Back again with yet another Italian Serie A new kit release, the Nike Inter 2011-2012 home jersey
presentation. The official Inter home jersey release was last Friday, July 8th. Our current FIFA
World Club Cup Champions will first wear their new attire during Italian Super Cup against city
rivals AC Milan, Derby numero uno boyz.
The last seven days for Inter were supposed to be a dawning of a new season. A new coach was
officially presented on Tuesday, a new player welcomed on Thursday, the new shirt unveiled Friday.
Unfortunately, all the good news this week has been overshadowed by the news that was announced
last Monday.

Memorial Inter.it TORRIGLIA (Genoa) United in the name of Fulvio Currò, for the 14th edition of
the memorial dedicated to the 25-year-old Engineering student killed by a brain aneurysm in 1998.
Gian Piero Gasperini took part in the traditional football tournament alongside sports stars,.
As the official start of another transfer window draws near (for those unaware, in Italy it doesn't
officially until July 1) the time has come to examine Inter's summer 2011 calciomercato. The first
and most important move of the close season has been announcing Gian Piero Gasperini as the new
head coach.
Gasperini: Juve? At the end of the championship you will see ... Tuttosport headlines read in

Inter have been coach-less for little under a week since Leonardo's official departure from the
club last Friday (June 17, 2011). An outsider may look at Inter's recent coaching trend and make a
false assumption that the club has returned to the frequent coaching turnover of the late 1990s and
early 2000s.
Leonardo has left Inter in the similar manner in which he arrived: immersed in controversy. His
tenure began in a cloud of turbulence, picking up the pieces from Rafa Benitez. With Inter in
seventh place behind Leonardo's former club, AC Milan, it was a risky move for all parties
involved. In Leo's brief six months at the helm as Inter coach, his winning percentage was
surprisingly successful,.
After the curtain fell on the 2010-11 season, uncertainties were expected regarding Inter's
transfer market. One thing did seem certain after the Nerazzurri hoisted the Coppa Italia however
was the retention of Leonardo as manager. A little more than two weeks have since passed and with
it came a shocking twist regarding Inter's head coaching position.
