Jakarta Casual 19 November @ 07:42 PM EST
Persib Bandung's first home game of the season tomorrow night sees them up against Pelita Jaya at the Jalak Harupat Stadium in Soreang.
Persib have lost both their games so far this season and they will welcome Sinthaweechai 'Kosin' Hathairatnakul back on a loan spell while fellow Thai international Suchao Nuchnam will also get his first run out. Click to continue reading...

Let's hear it for the professional whiners

Jakarta Casual 16 November @ 10:24 PM EST
A Singapore defeat is always good news for the media there. Reluctant to write about the game generally, once the national team fails to win the World Cup or even win a group stage game all the whiners come crawling out from under their toadstools they call home and sing the usual refrain. Chuffed to pieces they are at being given another opportunity to rant and rave. Click to continue reading...

One more Thai for ISL

Jakarta Casual 06 November @ 06:13 PM EST
Pelita Jaya have announced the signing of Yuthajak Konjan. The former national team player will be among familiar faces as he was part of the 2003 Thai SEA Games squad that also featured Kosin Hatairatkul (Persib) and Phaitoon Thiabma (Persijap).
In the 2009 Thai Premier League the midfielder played for PEA and was a part of their AFC Cup run. Click to continue reading...

Pelita Jaya v Persik 1-1

Jakarta Casual 21 October @ 05:20 AM EST
Heartbreak for Fandi Ahmad's Young Guns as the same old problems from last season returned to haunt them in their first home game of the new season.
Things started brightly enough for Pelita Jaya as they took the lead through their new signing, Colombian international Edison Fonseca, in the first minute but from then on it was same old, same old for Pelita Jaya as they failed to capitalise. Click to continue reading...

Jakarta Casual 01 October @ 04:08 AM EST
Pelita Jaya coach Fandi Ahmad, who knows a thing or two about Singapore football, is interested in SAF player Masahiro Fukasawa.
Good headline innit? Sod all to do with the story. Learnt that technique from The Sun in the UK... Click to continue reading...

Jakarta Casual 23 September @ 10:37 PM EST
Things have been quiet of late what with Ramadhan and the Eid festival but that's all coming to an end and how.
We'll start off with the SLeague in Singapore. Despite all the doom and gloom merchants who come crawling out of (Sentosa artificial) rocks every time some bad news is percieved to hit the game there things ain't so bad in Lion City. Click to continue reading...

Good Luck to you, Guys who are heading south...

BoLASEPaKO - a simple view on Singapore Soccer 11 September @ 08:30 AM EST
Not since the early 1980s when we last seen some of our top footballers left for greener pasture.
Coincide with Singapore's second pulled out from the Malaysia Cup in 1982, stars like Fandi Ahmad, Terry Pathmanathan, David Lee packed their bags and ventured to either the Malaysian or Indonesian leagues then. Click to continue reading...

Noh Alam Shah and Aremania

Jakarta Casual 07 September @ 11:15 PM EST
Last year during the AFF Cup I met up with Singaporean striker Noh Alam Shah for an interview. We had a great chat, one that greatly exceeded the initial time we had agreed on and covered many topics.
One topic was Indonesian football. Of course he knew a bit about the game here through Pelita Jaya coach Fandi Ahmad and he was really excited by what he had heard of the fans here. Click to continue reading...

The sound of silence

Jakarta Casual 31 August @ 10:43 PM EST
After a few weeks when it seemed hardly a day went by without an Indonesian team being linked with players from Singapore or Thailand now all seems quiet.
Sriwijaya, seemingly linked with every player in south east Asia, are now considering a 35 year old Liberian striker named Maker. A far cry from the likes of Noh Alam Shah, Teerasil Dangda, Agu Casmir and Theerathep Winothai who had previously been linked with the Palembang side. Click to continue reading...

Indo agent looks at Singapore

Jakarta Casual 27 July @ 06:15 PM EST
Local FIFA registered agent Edy Syahputra sees plenty of opportunities for Singaporean players to ply their trade in Indonesia, especially following the introduction of the 3 = 2 rule which says that two foreigners must be Asian.
Sriwijaya are still interested in Agu Casmir while rumours about Lionel Lewis moving to Persija persist. Click to continue reading...

Singapore's whiney sporting culture?

Jakarta Casual 25 July @ 07:20 PM EST
I'm convinced that if ever the Olympic Games added whinging as a sport Singapore could give the original whingers Australia a run for their money.
The Sleague is one of the top leagues in Asia without a doubt, next weekend sees Tampines Rovers take on Singapore Armed Forces in a classic first v second match that would have fans salivating in their coffee shops. Click to continue reading...

Bridging the culture gap

Jakarta Casual 22 July @ 10:21 PM EST
With Thai striker Teerathep Winothai returning from his spell with Belgian side to play for Muang Thong United in the second half of the Thai Premier League the question remains. Who will be the first south east Asian player to successfully make a career in Europe.
Fandi Ahmad (Singaporean) - was offered a chance with Ajax but was persuaded to move somewhere closer to home, NIAC Mitra in Surabaya, by his family. Click to continue reading...

Not yet a STAR but learn to deal with it too

BoLASEPaKO - a simple view on Singapore Soccer 13 July @ 09:05 PM EST
"I didn't make him a star, the media did!" refuted a coach recently when asked about the less-than-desirable performance by his "star" player after another defeat to his team.
How true that statement was as a matter of fact it's only when a player who performed consistently well enough and therefore being mentioned in the media. Click to continue reading...

[Event] CHARITY MATCH IN AID OF 4-YEAR-OLD CHARMAINE LIM’S CANCER TREATMENT

BoLASEPaKO - a simple view on Singapore Soccer 28 June @ 11:43 AM EST
Was late for the game anyway but it was a good turn-out for this charity match organized by former Singapore international Rafi Ali, as thousands of fans turned out at the Tampines Stadium to catch stars of the yesteryears to parade their skills in aid for the four-year old cancer patient Charmaine Lim. "Red Card Football Clinic with Robbie Fowler and Fandi Ahmad"

BoLASEPaKO - a simple view on Singapore Soccer 29 May @ 10:49 PM EST
Registration counter of the clinic
I was told of this clinic, being one of fringe activities of the visiting North Queensland Fury, by the media liaison officers.
It is certainly a nice thing to see two footballing legends - Robbie Fowler and Fandi Ahmad came together and imparted some of their knowledges to these kids who were obviously having a good time despite the scorching heat at Hougang Stadium. Click to continue reading...

Indonesia Super League
PSIS v Persela 0-1 (Charly)
Pelita Jaya v Persija 2-1 (Rudi Wibowo, Eduardo; Bambang Pamungkas)
Three straight wins for Pelita Jaya, hasn't happened for a while, effectively ended Persija's title challenge this eveining. What will have delighted coach Fandi Ahmad was that this was achieved without leading scorer Cristian Lopes who was suspended. Click to continue reading...

Pelita Jaya look to Lommel

Jakarta Casual 17 April @ 09:16 PM EST
Pelita Jaya host Persela tonight in the ISL desperately searching for some firepower from their forwards. Rudi Wibowo has disappointed all season while coach Fandi Ahmad finally recruited former PSMS striker James Koko Lomel to partner the prolific, if somewhat lonley, Cristian Lopes.
Mid table stuff expected from both teams though at least Pelita Jaya have the Singapore Cup to look forward to in 10 days time or so. Click to continue reading...

Pelita Jaya up for the cup

Jakarta Casual 09 April @ 09:32 AM EST
SINGAPORE, 9 April 2009: Indonesian Super League side Pelita Jaya, coached by former Singapore captain Fandi Ahmad, will join three other invited foreign sides to compete with the 12 S.League clubs in the prestigious RHB Singapore Cup which kicks off on 27 April 2009.
Pelita Jaya will be the first ever Indonesian club side to compete in the Singapore Cup although the Indonesian Under-23 team did make it to the quarter finals of the Singapore Cup in 2005. Click to continue reading...

Pelita Jaya's First Defeat

Jakarta Casual 08 September @ 05:05 PM EST
Fandi Ahmad's Pelita Jaya suffered their first defeat of the season last night in the ISL when a Marcio Souza free kick, his fifth goal of the season, was enough to give the home side Persela three points.
First half the visitors seemed content to play long with little success and while they changed things around a bit at half time, with captain Firman Utina being replaced, up front they threatened little with Cristian Lopes looking isolated. Click to continue reading...

Kudos to Mitra Kukar

Jakarta Casual 25 August @ 05:43 AM EST
Mitra Kukar play in the Indonesian Premier League eastern Division where they sit in mid table oblivion.
Their lowly status doesn't stop them having possibly the best club web site I have come across so far. Oddly, for Indonesia, it looks to be regularly updated and has a message board where fans are thanked for their support! Click to continue reading...

Persik and Pelita Jaya

Jakarta Casual 04 August @ 04:34 AM EST
Though this game was played Wednesday night this is the first chance I've had to write anything about it.
As ever with a Persik game you're left holding your breath. A side short of quality such as Legimin, Danilo and Fagundez was good enough to beat most teams in the ISL, especially with Budi Sudarsono, for me the most technically gifted Indonesian player at the moment, in such sincilating form. Former Perseman Striker Finds New Home

Jakarta Casual 21 July @ 09:21 PM EST
New signings to make a difference at Sengkang
Syahrom Sulaiman info@sleague.com
All season long, Sengkang Punggol's well-documented problems up front became a major talking point in the S.League. Currently occupying the last spot, the Dolphins' inability to convert the chances in front of goal is putting them in danger of finishing the season on a new low. Click to continue reading...

Singapore FootbaLL 13 July @ 07:24 AM EST

Fandi Ahmad Interview

Jakarta Casual 03 January @ 08:01 PM EST
Yesterday before the Persija v Deltra Copa Q/F I sat down with Pelita Jaya coach Fandi Ahmad and had a good old chin wag about the Pakistan crisis and the price of oil. Actually no, we didn't.
We talked about his playing career, which you can hear here. We talked about his experience as a 19 year playing against, and scoring against, Arsenal in Surabaya. Click to continue reading...
