"Ambushed" scouting by Fandi, Nazri and Aide

BoLASEPaKO - a simple view on Singapore Soccer 29 August @ 08:07 AM EDT
To the players of both Orange County (pictured above, in orange jersey) and Beyond Imagination (lime jersey), it was something rather usual for them when they saw a sudden surge of "intruders" turning out for their Sunday League fixture at the Bedok North Secondary School.
(Pictured above) Rare mainstream media coverage on a Sunday League game. Click to continue reading...

[Event] Do You all think I deserve a chance??

BoLASEPaKO - a simple view on Singapore Soccer 20 August @ 07:39 AM EDT
(P.S: I was recently put to a task by Tiger Beer, the sponsor of the Singapore National Team, to see if I deserved a chance to win the grand prize of the "Tiger Beer Regional Online Influencer Challenge"... read on for more details...)
For one, I'm always try to make myself heard...
And that's the reason why I started this blog to share whatever my opinions and thoughts on the local game (even if sometimes it did gave me some frightening moments). Click to continue reading...

Fandi Goes Dutch?

Jakarta Casual 05 August @ 04:32 AM EDT
Former Singapore international Fandi Ahmad, consider a cross between George Best and Gary Lineker, is considering a move to the Netherlands. His former club Gronigen, where he is still fondly remembered, are believed to have offered him a coaching position.
Fandi is however still under contract with Pelita Jaya, a deal that ends in November, so is unlikely to rush into a deal. Click to continue reading...

Do you stick or twist

Jakarta Casual 21 July @ 08:12 AM EDT
This post follows up on a couple of comments by visitors talking about SAFFC and their struggles this season.
Obviously I'm no coach, I don't even play fantasy football or computer games though I will, reluctantly, point out that I was The All Clositers Subbuteo Champion in 1975, so these are, as ever, just the garbled impressions of someone with way too much free time. Click to continue reading...

[EVENT] "NIKE CUP SINGAPORE 2010" Grand Finals

BoLASEPaKO - a simple view on Singapore Soccer 04 July @ 11:14 AM EDT
How appropriate to have the Grand Final of this event held at the Grand Ol' Lady (National Stadium - pictured above) before its scheduled demolish in days to come.
A total of 200 teams from both Senior and Junior categories emerged after two weeks of intensive competitions around the island to pit for the ultimate prize. Click to continue reading...

Early memories of South East Asian football

Jakarta Casual 29 March @ 11:52 PM EDT
I first hit this region in 1987 as a callow, skinny youth off to Australia. At that time I envisaged 12 months away from home before returning to follow the Arsenal over land and sea, and Leicester, but that never happened did it?
I spent a week in Yogyakarta staying at a hotel by the main railway station. Click to continue reading...

Fandi's Precarious Position

Jakarta Casual 17 March @ 08:48 PM EDT
Just as I was leaving the house this morning a headline in the local rag caught my eye. It said that Pelita Jaya coach Fandi Ahmad is 'reported to have been sacked.'
It has been a disappointing season for the team known as Young Guns as they had to settle into their 3rd home in three seasons. Click to continue reading...

Recent crowd disturbances in South East Asia

Jakarta Casual 21 February @ 02:49 AM EDT
Indonesia
Persebaya fans travelling to and from Bandung left a trail of destruction including at least one dead fan and several injuries. The Mataram Derby between PSIM and PSS was abandoned on 66' after home fans invaded the pitch. PSMS fans have twice gone wild after recent home games while Persiraja fans went on one last week. Supporter apathy threatens PSSB

Jakarta Casual 26 January @ 10:07 PM EDT
PSSB Bireuen is not the easiest place to get to. Up on the Aceh coast the nearest airport is about a six hour drive away in Medan. If you're lucky. Fandi Ahmad, the Pelita Jaya coach, described going there a true Indonesian football experience.
Now in the second tier Premier League with little liklihood of promotion anytime soon their small support is dwindling even further and unfortunately Indonesia doesn't have much in the way of ground hoppers to purchase little badges and match day programmes to supplement gate receipts. Jakarta Casual 21 January @ 12:17 AM EDT
We're nearly at the half way point in the Indonesia Super League so as good a time as any to see which clubs have squaky bums at the moment. Three are guaranteed to be relegated while one other will have to go into a play off with a side from the Premier League.

A kick in the balls for Singapore football

Jakarta Casual 20 January @ 10:38 PM EDT
The arrival of two new foreign teams in the SLeague hasn't gone down too well in Singapore with some fans calling for a boycott of games in the upcoming season. A bit drastic that when no bugger goes anyway.
Etoille and Beijing Guoan have of course replaced DPMM and Super Reds. But why do we have to have two foreign clubs replace two domestic clubs? Click to continue reading...

Life on the road

Jakarta Casual 19 January @ 07:25 AM EDT
Indonesia is a big country of course but often people never really realise that till they get here.
Pelita Jaya coach Fandi Ahmad told me recently about travelling to PSSB Bireuen and it taking 10 hours from the airport in Medan. So that is on top of a two hour flight!
Persema midfielder, and temporary defender, Robbie Gaspar, last week told me about a gruelling road trip back from Jepara to Malang which also took 10 hours along some of Java's finest road. Click to continue reading...
