John Nyen on Bolton's season and plight
Bolton's in the EPL "ER" right now...
There are 18 games left to save the season for Bolton Wanderers.
Saving they may need indeed, after momentarily sinking to just near the bottom of the table in
the Barclay's Premier League.

Team news and manager quotes ahead of Arsenal's Carling Cup fourth-round clash at home to
Bolton.
TEAM NEWS:
Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen could make his comeback from a two-month Achilles injury
layoff. With one eye on Saturday's derby at Chelsea, manager Arsene Wenger is likely to rest the
likes of Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Robin van Persie, and give starts to the fringe
players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Francis Coquelin, Park Chu-Young and Emmanuel Frimpong.
Robin Van Persie scored twice as Arsenal overran 10-man Bolton 3-0 to complete a one-sided
Premier League win at the Emirates Stadium.
The home captain set Arsenal on the road to three much-needed points when he dribbled past Fabrice
Muamba to thump the ball beyond Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen from eight yards out on 47
minutes.
And so Arsenal come into the weekend on the back of a convincing 3-1 win over League Two side
Shrewsbury Town. Since I didn't listen or watch the game and only saw the highlights of three
spectacular Arsenal goals, and an unavoidable goal against, I will remain in my dreamworld and
ignore the panic on Twitter that went on during the game.
Bolton come to Villa Park for the 3rd round of the Carling Cup, Alex McLeish has fielded a very
strong side and Owen Coyle is able to hand Stuart Holden his first appearance since his knee injury
at the tail end of last season.

Michael Steele/Getty Images(Bleacher Report)The Reds enjoyed finally getting a victory against
Arsenal last weekend, and during they week they advanced to the next round of the Carling Cup.
Bolton Wanderers also advanced this week in the Carling Cup, but they suffered a frustrating 3-2
loss to Manchester City at the weekend.
After playing two tightly-contested matches last season Liverpool scored the winners in the 86th
and 92nd minutes respectively Bolton visits Anfield in hopes of continuing what's been an
encouraging start to the season. Liverpool's had all the success in this matchup over the past few
years, winning the last nine, but with two deserved wins and a hard-fought loss to City last
weekend, tomorrow's visitors will arrive expecting to get a result.
Michael Steele/Getty Images(Bleacher Report)Bolton Wanderers play host to Manchester City in less
than 24 hours and with it comes a lot of speculation. Both clubs completed 4-0 beatings of freshly
promoted teams last weekend.
Along with that both teams started the year off at the top of the table for the first time in
years.
Bolton Wanderers sit atop the English Premier League after they thrashed newly promoted Queens
Park Rangers 4-0 at Loftus Road. It was a rude introduction to the Premier League for QPR who
finished with 10 men after Clint Hall's late sending off for a headbutt.
After a promising start, in which striker DJ Campbell's had a goal disallowed for offide, QPR
conceded a goal right on the stroke of half-time when Bolton defender Gary Cahill fired the ball
into the top corner from 25 yards.

The Barclays Premier League returned to households around the world this weekend and aside from
one extremely lopsided fixture, the matches played on Saturday were very competitive.
Two of the aforementioned fixtures ended in goalless draws as Aston Villa drew away to Fulham
and Arsenal experienced the same outcome against Newcastle at Tyneside.
Do you hear that? That's the sound of Premiership football (with the exception of Spurs-Everton)
rumbling closer. While we haven't been exactly starved for footy this summer (Womens World Cup,
Copa America, U21 Euro's etc) there is nothing like the Prem. Tomorrow the Trotters usher in the
new season with a trip to new boys, QPR.
Yes, out of the 30 photos from training in Orlando, I chose this one.
It's no secret that this hasn't been exactly the most exciting summer for the Bolton Wanderers,
and any news is at least vaguely interesting. I mean, I read an interview with the kitman earlier
today. I know exactly how many ankle socks they brought to America.
Pre-season training starts today, and I am sure that you, much like me, are overjoyed as this
brings us one step closer to the regular season. I imagine that the players and coaching staff are
even more excited to get back to it, if only because they can share the wild stories of their
summer holidays with the rest of the class.
Stuart Pearce has rung the changes for England U21's do-or-die clash with the Czech
Republic here in Viborg.
The much-criticised Michael Mancienne makes way at defensive midfield for the more muscular Fabrice
Muamba, while Jack Rodwell and Danny Rose, who both disappointed against Ukraine, are on the bench,
replaced by Tom Cleverley and Scott Sinclair in a 4-2-4 formation with Danny Welbeck and Sturridge
the twin points of attack.

Off the woodwork, into the Steele England managed to take time out from their preparations for
tomorrow's European Under 21 Championship crunch match against the Czech Republic to put together a
credible entry for You've Been Framed. The squad's shooting practice was just drawing to a close
when Fabrice Muamba fired one last effort towards [.
I always get emotional this time of year. What am I going to do when I don;t have the Wanderers
to elate or disappoint me every weekend? I'll probably have to pick up a real hobby. Anyway, no use
in worry about that just yet as there's 90 minutes left to be played this season. Manchester City
will make the short trip to the Reebok, a stadium at which they are winless in their last 5
games.
England U21 Head Coach, Stuart Pearce, has released the 40-man provisional squad for the Euro
2011 Championship this summer. Three Arsenal players have been named to the squad:
Provisional England Under-21 squad:
Goalkeepers Frank Fielding (Blackburn), Scott Loach (Watford), Jason Steele
(Middlesbrough), Alex McCarthy (Reading).
BOLTON, England Bolton Wanderers have announced the signing of defender David Wheater for an
undisclosed fee from Championship outfit Middlesbrough. The former England Under-21 defender has
signed a three-and-a-half year deal and linked-up with his new team-mates for the first time on
Thursday morning at the club's Euxton-based training complex.
The noose around Roy Hodgson's neck was tightening last Saturday as soon as Bolton's Kevin Davies
scored a simple goal just before halftime at Anfield. Luckily for him, Steven Gerrard would not let
Liverpool suffer a third successive defeat.
The Liverpool captain turned in his best performance this season and literally pulled Liverpool
across the winning line.
